Are the Eagles last season’s version of the Giants?

Some are saying they are, and judging by the way the Eagles have been winning games lately, no one has dared to tell otherwise.

The 2009 NFL playoffs just got interesting with this imminent face-off between two NFC East rivals that just might be mirror images of each other. The Giants face off with the Eagles in a game that may very well let this season’s Giants see the very form and momentum that led them to their improbable Super Bowl XLII win back in Glendale, Arizona.

You see, the consensus in the NFL these days is that the Philadelphia Eagles this year are last year’s version of the Super Bowl XLII champions, New York Giants.

The playoff run the New York Giants had Philadelphia Eagleslast year was powered by their underdog mentality. The Giants also had to bring their game to another level in their final regular season game just to give themselves a better shot of competing with the best teams last year’s playoffs had to offer.

And although the Giants lost that game to the New England Patriots, that game gave them the idea that they can compete with the powerful New England squad and when they played the 18-0 Pats in Super Bowl XLII, it paid off.

The Philadelphia Eagles are having a similar road to the Super Bowl so far. They had to bring their game to another level during their last regular season game to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Eagles did more than just bringing their game up a notch, dominating the mighty Dallas Cowboys 44-6 to earn a wild card playoff berth and put themselves in the position where they are now.

The underdog mentality the Philadelphia Eagles have been using also enabled them to beat the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome, shocking the Vikings fans in attendance with a 26-14 win over the home team.

If the Philadelphia Eagles really are last year’s version of the New York Giants, that would make Philly a very dangerous team to play in these postseason wars. And if the Eagles can come up with a playoff win at Giants stadium this weekend, these birds should be known more than just the sequel to New York’s 2007-08 championship run.
