Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t mind being accused of rape
He probably figured he can just pay the bitch off like Kobe did a few years ago in Denver.
And in case you didn’t know, yes, Ben Roethlisberger of the Super Bowl XLIII champions Pittsburgh Steelers is being accused of rape by a 31-year-old woman from Nevada. And considering that the 2009 NFL football season is just a month away, this is the worst time to have shit like this.
Law officials in Nevada, as of this writing, have no plans of opening a criminal investigation into allegations involving Ben Roethlisberger raping a woman at a Lake Tahoe hotel-casino, apparently, that’s where the woman claimed to be the place where the Steelers quarterback fucked her brains out.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy Teresa Duffy said the accuser would have to file a criminal complaint to trigger an investigation into the incident the woman says occurred during a celebrity golf tournament last July while she was working as an executive VIP casino host at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.
”The victim is the only one who can do that,” Duffy said. ”Unless there was a third party that actually witnessed the incident, which according to the civil case, was not the case here.”
The 31-year-old Nevada woman has filed a lawsuit saying the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback raped her in a hotel penthouse across the street from the golf course, a claim the quarterback’s attorney vehemently denies.
Meanwhile, Roethlisberger intends to stick to his plans to participate in Shaquille O’Neal‘s new reality TV series. He canceled a news conference set to promote the show a few days ago, but ABC representative Edwin Escobar said in an e-mail that production will proceed as scheduled.
Roethlisberger said he will remain focused on the upcoming season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the defending Super Bowl champions. The Steelers begin their training camp on July 31 at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, a town about 40 miles east of Pittsburgh.
David Cornwell issued a statement on Roethlisberger’s behalf saying, ”Ben has never sexually assaulted anyone. The timing of the lawsuit and the absence of a criminal complaint and a criminal investigation are the most compelling evidence of the absence of any criminal conduct.”
Roethlisberger’s touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes with 35 seconds to play lifted the Steelers to a 27-23 Super Bowl XLIII victory over the Arizona Cardinals in February. Roethlisberger is one of only two quarterbacks in NFL history, along with the Patriots’ Tom Brady, to win two Super Bowls by the age of 26.
