Can the Lakers win the 2009 NBA Finals in Orlando?

Disneyland.

That’s where the 2009 NBA Finals will be when this best of seven series for the title resumes for Game 3 in Orlando, Florida. The Lakers are halfway from winning their 15th world title, and with the next three games scheduled at the Amway Arena, these Lakers could be celebrating on the Magic’s floor before this week is over.

Yep, since the Los Angeles Lakers are only a couple of wins away from their 15th title in franchise history, they definitely have what it takes to end the series in Orlando. Judging by the way they won the first two games of the championship series, I don’t see any reason to think otherwise.

Los Angeles LakersYou see, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Orlando Magic by simply staying fundamentally sound. ”Showtime” was clearly not present in each of the Lakers’ two wins of the NBA Finals. The Lakers didn’t beat themselves, they didn’t blow opportunities and they didn’t make dumb mistakes.

Orlando did.

The Lakers, to put it simply, didn’t win the first two games. It just so happened that the Magic lost both of ‘em. Take Game 2 for example. Orlando had that one won. They had a four-point lead in the final minutes of Game 2 for crying out loud, only to let the Lakers back into the game.

Despite blowing the lead, Orlando still had the chance to win it when Hedo Turkoglu found a streaking Courtney Lee near the bottom of the basket with 0.6 seconds left. Unfortunately for the Magic, Lee missed from point blank range. The game went to overtime, and the Lakers didn’t give Orlando any more opportunities.

Yep, it seems the Magic just can’t seem to take advantage of the opportunities that these Lakers have been unintentionally giving them. They had the chance to steal the homecourt advantage away from Kobe Bryant before the series shifts to Disneyland. The Magic just couldn’t take advantage.

And what’s even scarier is the fact that the Lakers haven’t even come up with their best basketball yet.

Did you know that going into the 2009-2010 season, the Lakers hold the record for having the most wins and the highest success percentage (3000 and 61.8%)
