Can the Penguins make the Red Wings sweat?

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThey have to, unless they want to get their asses swept in front of their home fans in the next two games.

The 2009 NHL Stanley Cup Finals continue on Tuesday in Pittsburgh where the Red Wings will try to take the commanding 3-0 lead over a Penguins team clearly struggling.

The Detroit Red Wings are halfway there people. They are only two games away from saving Detroit from what has been a tumultuous year and from winning their 12th Stanley Cup.

The Pittsburgh Penguins got beat after Sidney Crosbyfailing to come up with anything after the first period for the second time in this series. And while they managed to draw first blood this time in Game 2, thanks to a power play goal by Evgeni Malkin, the Red Wings just took over the rest of the game, scoring twice in the second period before sealing the game with another in the third.

Perhaps it’s fate that the Red Wings, once again, are going to Pittsburgh up 2-0, needing only two more wins to capture the Stanley Cup. Sure, they’re tired, beat-up and exhausted but the fact of the matter is, they are two more wins away from their 12th Stanley Cup and with the kind of year Detroit had, I reckon the Red Wings won’t mind pushing further.

”Playing back to backs and saying we’d be up 2-0, we’d be ecstatic,” Chris Osgood said. ”We still believe we can play better and we know we’ll have to in Pittsburgh.”

Since this is the second straight year that the Penguins have been down to the Red Wings 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby doesn’t like it one bit.

”It’s not good,” Sidney Crosby said, ”but at the same time, it shows us our game can be successful. If we keep playing the same way, we’re going to come out on the right side of things. We would have liked to have different results, but that’s playoff hockey.”

  • NHL Odds Says:

The Penguins couldn’t possibly fall down 3-0 in this series losing their 1st home game. The crowd and team will be fired up and look for another good game with the score going over 5.5 (bodog).
