I guess Friesan Fire and Larry Jones won’t make it to the 134th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course

For all ya’ll who were disappointed with the way heavy favorite Friesan Fire finished the Derby, you won’t have to go through the same ordeal.

I know you guys ain’t quitting so soon already and I know you already have your own picks for the 2009 Preakness Stakes, hoping that the bandwagon you’ll be riding on at the Pimlico Race Course will be good enough to let you climb out of that hole Friesan Fire pushed you into.

And for those of you who are worried about having a repeat of that disappointing run you had at Churchill Downs, you’d be happy to know that you won’t be going through the same ordeal in Pimlico.

Friesan FireFor one, Friesan Fire’s trainer, Larry Jones, won’t be available to woo gamblers into making any wagers on his horse. The recently concluded 135th Kentucky Derby was suppose to give him his very first Kentucky Derby trophy. After all, everything was set up for Friesan Fire to have a fiery weekend at Churchill Downs.

Instead, Friesan Fire got into trouble coming out of the gate and the fiery weekend the thoroughbred was suppose to have ended up with the horse finishing in 18th of the 19-horse field.

The disappointing loss was too hard for Larry Jones to take that he is now retiring from the sport. As for his promising thoroughbred…

Apparently, Friesan Fire was stepped on while coming out of the gates at the Kentucky Derby. Yup, the poor horse and his chances of winning the first leg of the 2009 Triple Crown trail were already compromised as soon as the gates were opened.

Although Friesan Fire tried to run with a wounded left front foot, running in 7th place even, he backed up around the far turn under Gabriel Saez and began to lose position. When the horse came back to the unsaddling area with blood streaming out from his left foot, his trainers learned that the horse had part of his foot ripped off.

Ouch. Tell me, how in the hell can you expect this one unlucky thoroughbred to run in the Preakness?
