Man sues the Chicago White Sox for Shooting Free T-Shirts into the Crowd from a Cannon
What?!?
This is when you know the 2009 MLB baseball season has already began putting people to sleep.
Yes, baseball season is here and while most of us are probably going to keep our asses at home playing video games until football season gets here, one dude went his way to sue the Chicago White Sox for, get this, giving away free t-shirts.
If you’re a sports fan living in Chicago then you’ve probably seen team employees firing free t-shirts into the crowd during White Sox or Bulls games, happening between innings at the U.S. Cellular or during timeouts at the United Center.
It’s the team’s way of saying thank you. Thank you for spending $150 during these terrible economic times just to be there, not to mention the $7 you burn for each beer and the $5 you throw away for nachos. To show you how much the team appreciates you, they give you the chance to out wrestle those next to you for a flying t-shirt that’s probably not going to fit you anyway.
One man from northwest Indiana doesn’t see it as the team’s way of showing their gratitude to the fans. He sees it as a team engaging in a dangerous activity, shooting free shirts as projectiles into the crowd.
David Babusiak suffered a permanent back injury when he was shoved to the ground when the Chevrolet Pride Team fired a t-shirt from a launcher cannon into Babusiak’s section of the stands during a Chicago White Sox baseball game. He filed a suit in federal court in Hammond, Indiana this week, naming the U.S. Cellular Field and the Pride Team as defendants.
The defendants, according to the lawsuit, are liable for more than $75,000 in damages because they were ”engaging in an abnormally dangerous activity, namely, shooting free T-shirts as projectiles into an unsupervised crowd of spectators, some of whom may not have been sober.”
Let’s hope this’ll keep sports fans from Chicago interested in baseball until Jay Cutler grabs a football and takes the field.
