Matt Hughes plans to stay in the UFC, that’s until Georges St. Pierre takes him out for good.
Apparently, Hughes thinks he can still go toe to toe with the best of MMA.
It looks like Matt Hughes’ win over Matt Serra in UFC 98 has convinced the former UFC welterweight champion to keep his ass in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Fresh from his win over Serra, Matt Hughes claims he has no plans of bringing an end to what has been a legendary career inside the Octagon. That’s despite getting his ass beaten to a bloody pulp by Georges St. Pierre, TWICE, that ultimately brought up questions if he should continue fighting.
”I definitely still want to compete. I still think I’m competitive in the weight division, so we’ll keep going,” Matt Hughes said.
”It will be interesting to watch Thiago Alves and Georges St. Pierre go at it. It will be an interesting fight for me to watch. We’ll figure it out. Like I’ve said before, I’m not going anywhere.”
Perhaps ”going nowhere” would be the best thing to describe Hughes at this point of his career.
As of this writing, Hughes is a free agent. He could defect to other organizations like what Randy Couture and some of the older fighters of the UFC did, but according to Hughes, he won’t fight for anyone but the UFC.
”I don’t know what I’m going to do. D.W. (Dana White) and I will get in a room and we’ll talk about it, and we’ll figure it out,” Hughes said.
With no plans of imminent retirement, Matt Hughes said he would like to get rematches with fighters who have previously defeated him. Will he challenge the winner of the Thiago Alves – Georges St. Pierre UFC Welterweight Championship in UFC 100?
Who cares. We all know he’s gonna’ tap to GSP’s armbar again anyway.
