Surprise surprise, NFL bettors still love the NFC East

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYou guessed it, the division is still THE very best in pro American sports.

Michael Vick is back, Brett Favre isn’t and the NFC East remains to be the best division in all of football, and probably of North American sports. As players start to gather for the start of the 2009 NFL football season, the NFC East remaining on top only proves that some things do change but some stay the same.

The NFC East has been the dominant division in the NFC for a while, despite limited playoff success, save for the New York Giants and their surprising Super Bowl win two seasons ago.

Tony RomoHell, there’s a generation of kids in Texas who have never seen the Dallas Cowboys win a playoff game with their last one being 13 years ago back in the 1996 playoffs. But collectively, the Giants, the Eagles, the Cowboys and the Redskins (well, maybe not so much the Redskins) are as good as a division gets in an NFC conference that has struggled to stay competitive against the AFC.

Sports bettors and the online sportsbooks have both acknowledged the NFC East’s dominance, as one glance at the NFL future odds menu will show.

Looking over the NFL betting odds at SPORTSBETTING.COM we see the top three teams listed to win the NFC Championship are all from the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys listed as 7-1 favorites, the Philadelphia Eagles 13-2 favorites and the New York Giants as 9-2 favorites.

Slotting in behind these three are two teams from the NFC North; the Minnesota Vikings (15-2) and the Chicago Bears (10-1).

The online sportsbook has been seeing steady wagering action on the future odds, with an increase the last week or so with the NFL camps opening. Again, despite the lack of recent playoff success, the Dallas Cowboys are popular with the sports betting community, as they hold 14 percent of all the money wagered on who will win the NFC Championship.

However, it’s the New York Giants who are the bettors’ favorites to represent their conference in the Super Bowl, as they have 24 percent of the overall NFC Championship betting volume.

Go figure.

As for the Philadelphia Eagles? For the most part, the Eagles had a very productive offseason, the kind that could bring them back to the top. They had a good draft, adding the likes of WR Jeremy Maclin and RB LeSean McCoy. This team will make a real run at the division title this year.

As for the Washington Redskins, they are still the team Cowboys’ fans hate the most. Unfortunately, that’s the only way you can describe this underachieving team at this point.

Which team will win Super Bowl XLIV? SPORTSBETTING.COM has the odds.

Pittsburgh Steelers 10-1

Arizona Cardinals 25-1

New England Patriots 4-1

Dallas Cowboys 12-1
