Betting on a wardrobe malfunction at Super Bowl XLV?

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Here we go, the last remaining days before the big game, and as always, we have quite a few odds on anything Super Bowl.

The play on the field and the outcome of Super Bowl XLV aren’t the only things sparking interest amongst fans as the Steelers and Packers gear up for their epic showdown.

And in case you’ve been living under a rock, yes, the Green Bay Packers will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers for all the marbles at Cowboys Stadium.

With all the shit going on for both the Green Bay Packers with all their injuries and the Pittsburgh Steelers with Ben Roethlisberger’s sexual assault charges, they endured all and now, they have a chance for immortality at the Super Bowl.

However, as always the case every year, people WILL bet on anything Super Bowl and it doesn’t have to be about the game at all. From how long will the national anthem be sung to who will have a wardrobe malfunction at halftime.

This year, musical acts including Christina Aguilera and the Black Eyed Peas, have sparked speculation as to what fans can expect during their performances.

This being the case, BetUS.com posted odds on all things Super Bowl XLV musical act.

Every year our site gets flooded with interest in the NFL’s biggest game,” stated BetUS.com spokesman Reed Richards. “This year is no different as fans are looking for answers on everything from game MVP, length of National Anthem, even wardrobe malfunctions.”

Now, I don’t know why some of you like betting on that stuff…

Tennessee Titans and coach Jeff Fisher part ways

Monday, January 31st, 2011

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThe Titans, as coach Jeff Fisher always liked to say, had a plan.

In the days following a disappointing season, missing out to play in Super Bowl XLV, Titans owner Bud Adams decided to let Fisher go after letting him coach the final year of his contract.

The Tennessee Titans and coach Jeff Fisher decided it would be best to part ways. A number of disagreements in recent days over issues unrelated to Fisher’s record prompted the sudden decision, according to sources familiar with the situation.

And so ended the run of Jeff Fisher with the franchise after 16 seasons as its icon, its constant presence. “It’s been 17 great years and I appreciate everything Mr. Adams has done for me,” Fisher said. “It’s time for me to rest, and fish. I have total peace about this right now.”

Indications are longtime Titans offensive line coach Mike Munchak is the favorite to replace Fisher, although a coaching search is expected to begin immediately.

We will be forever appreciative of Jeff Fisher’s leadership and accomplishments through his time with our franchise. We reached some of our greatest heights and experienced some unforgettable moments during his tenure,’’ the Titans said in a statement.

After the season was complete, we had numerous discussions on the direction of the team and were pleased that we were moving forward with Jeff at the helm. Since that time, it became evident that consensus was increasingly hard to find and reality wasn’t matching the vision we discussed.”

It is unfortunate that this decision is coming at this juncture…”

AFC takes on the NFC in the 2011 NFL Pro Bowl

Friday, January 28th, 2011

This is the appetizer before the Steelers take on the Packers for all the marbles in Cowboys Stadium.

Yes, before we get to Super Bowl XLV and see which team between the Steelers and the Packers will take home this year’s title, the rest of the AFC and NFC will face-off in their annual battle for football supremacy.

That’s right, it’s time once again for the 2011 NFL Pro Bowl and the league’s celebration of stars will set Hawaii on fire.

This year, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will come in as the leading vote-getter for the Pro Bowl after putting up the best season of his career.

The New England Patriots quarterback had nearly 1.9 million votes when balloting ended. The NFL said that Michael Vick topped the NFC with more than 1.5 million.

Almost 100 million votes were cast online and via mobile phones.

Players leading their positions include Houston Texans running back Arian Foster and wide receiver Andre Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu and Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney.

Foster is the NFL’s leading rusher with 1,345 yards. An undrafted rookie…

NBA rejects goggles Dwyane Wade wanted to wear

Friday, January 28th, 2011

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYes, I think Amar’e Stoudemire made goggles trendy in basketball again.

Looking for some migraine relief, D-Wade wanted to wear goggles before their game with the Knicks this 2011 NBA basketball season. Unfortunately for him, the goggles Wade originally wanted was too dark for the NBA.

The league rejected the tinted goggles Dwyane Wade planned to wear in their game against the New York Knicks, saying they were too dark. So instead, he just opted with a different pair that probably led to them losing to the Knicks 93-88. Haha!

“Now there’s gogglegate,” Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said just hours after he told the media Wade had NBA approval to wear the glasses.

The league approved a pair with less tinting like the ones Wade had been wearing in practice. Wade had been trying out glasses since missing Miami’s game Saturday against Toronto because of a migraine, a problem that has plagued him for years. Spoelstra said the Heat had been sending the league photographs of the goggles leading up to the game but that the NBA first saw them after the shootaround Thursday.

“An unfair advantage by the opponent not being able to see your eyes,” Spoelstra said the league told the team. He added with a laugh, they were “tinted too much — like a car.”

The ruling is similar to the one the NFL made several years ago, prohibiting quarterbacks from wearing shields that were too dark.

Wade said he felt better after practice, but when he got off the plane…

What will 2011 have in store for Tiger Woods?

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Whatever it is, I’m assuming Tiger Woods wouldn’t want any mistresses to come out anymore.

Tiger Woods make his 2011 debut in the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open this week at Torrey Pines. This tournament goes all the way back to 1927 and for the most part was known as the Buick Invitational.

How good has Tiger Woods been in this tournament? He won it six times and he has basically owned the Torrey Pines course at San Diego in his career. There are actually two courses at Torrey Pines, North and South and the players will play once each on each course on Thursday and Friday with the final two rounds held on the South Course.

Check out the odds for the Farmers Insurance Open at SBG Global.com

The South Course at Torrey Pines is where the 2008 U.S. Open was played and Tiger won that tournament as well. Woods is the favorite this week with odds of +230 at SBG. Phil Mickelson is the second choice in the wagering. He will be making his 21st consecutive appearance in the tournament. He’s won the event three times and has seven top-five finishes.

While much of the attention will be on Tiger and Phil, neither has won a tournament in a while and neither should be favored. Tiger has fallen to third in the World rankings having not won a tournament in more than a year while Phil has fallen to sixth and has not won since last year’s Masters.

The defending champ is Ben Crane who won by a shot last year…

Who’ll start for the East in the 2011 All-Star Game?

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThe East this year, has a more interesting bunch to choose from.

The final balloting update for the 2011 NBA All-Star Game has been announced. You are staring down your last chance to secure the 10 starters for this year’s midseason classic, and we feel it’s our public duty to help you get it right.

In the East, leading the way at the center position is Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic. This one isn’t even close. Al Horford has put together a fine, All-Star worthy season, and Joakim Noah looked pretty good there before he tore up his right hand, but Howard is far and away the best center in the NBA, and possibly one of the legit MVP candidates of the first half of the season so far.

For the forwards, we have Amar’e Stoudemire of the New York Knicks and LeBron James of the Miami Heat leading the ballots.

Some people may think Kevin Garnett has a slight edge over Amar’e Stoudemire this season. A tiny edge, but an edge, as Amar’e's defense is still so, so bad. As much as Stoudemire puts teams away with his offensive brilliance, he also keeps other teams in it, or allows opponents to pull away with his awful rotations. And while Garnett isn’t lights out, on offense, he dominates defensively (still) the same way Amar’e dominates offensively, and his offense is way better than Stoudemire’s defense.

But give it up to Amar’e, who has played in every game, and turned the Knicks around. He’s moved past KG in the balloting this month, and he deserves to start.

As far as LeBron James is concerned, he’s everyone’s least favorite player at this point, but holy hell can that guy play the game of basketball. Sure, most of you hate his guts, but give the man credit, he has become a god among men in this sport that we love.

For the guards, we have a quick backcourt tandem with…

Dwyane Wade won’t win the MVP – LeBron James

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Yep, he pretty much said that.

Relax Heat fans, before you send me hate mail like those stupid fanatics of Manny Pacquiao (still the biggest joke in boxing) do, he said Wade AND himself won’t be winning any MVP trophies this 2011 NBA basketball season because of the way the league selects its most valuable every year.

Despite playing on one of the best teams in the NBA, Heat forward LeBron James thinks neither himself nor Dwyane Wade has much of a chance to win the league’s MVP award this season.

James is the league’s two-time reigning MVP, and Dwyane Wade was named the MVP of the 2006 NBA Finals. Their combined credentials effectively will cancel each other out this season, according to James, who is ranked fifth in the league in scoring. Wade is the league’s fourth-highest scorer.

”The MVP thing — I think they almost classify it as an individual award, and I guess they look at it as the less help you have and the more numbers you put up, then it’s a better chance of you winning that award,” the Miami Heat forward said. ”But I think when we decided to come together that our MVP chances went out the window.”

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra compared the combination of James and Wade this season to the acting career of Leonardo DiCaprio, who has been nominated for multiple Academy Awards but has failed to win one.

”We have two guys who are very capable of getting the MVP…”

Who’ll start for the West in the 2011 All-Star Game?

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThere’s only one constant thing in the West, Kobe Bryant will still be your starting two-guard.

Everything else is anybody’s game. And while most of you will agree with the way the votes are going down for the East, the same can’t be said of the West with more than a few days left before we get to the 2011 NBA All-Star Game.

Starting with the center position, controversy already shows its ugly head with Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets leading the votes. Yes, people are still voting for Yao and the guy’s even leading the ballots. I mean, come on people, the guy’s probably done in the NBA. Somebody tell China to stop voting for the All-Star game.

For the forwards, leading in the ballots right now are Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets.

While I don’t have a problem with both Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony leading the votes, some could argue that Dirk Nowitzki can replace either of the two guys. Dirk is teetering on the edge. Per game, he’s played better than any forward in his conference, but he’s also missed eight games with a sprained knee, and missing over 20 percent of your team’s games shouldn’t be sloughed off.

For the guards, we have Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets and of course, Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Chris Paul’s the best point guard in the NBA. He’s in with permanent marker. I don’t like the way he tends to think pass-first late in games, but I can’t argue with the other 98 percent of the game, though.

As for Kobe Bryant, of course he’s still there. Despite the struggles…

Maurice Jones-Drew is an ass, Jay Cutler didn’t quit

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

That was the message the rest of the Chicago Bears wanted the rest of the NFL to hear.

Never has an NFL team been more relieved to announce its franchise quarterback suffered a tear in his knee ligament than the Bears after missing out on the chance to get to Super Bowl XLV.

Not that it will stop the silliness surrounding Jay Cutler, who temporarily has supplanted LeBron James as the most vilified man in sports. But it’s a start.

For all of you who obtained your medical license via Twitter or studied under Dr. Maurice Jones-Drew, a sprain indeed is a tear. So when Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith revealed that Cutler suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament, it more than justified Cutler missing the second half of Sunday’s NFC championship game.

“He wanted to go and tried to go,” Smith said. “If you’re going to attack somebody, you should be attacking me. Our quarterback’s a tough guy.”

Not a single teammate has whispered anything to the contrary.

A knee sprain is an injury that takes at least two weeks to heal — not two series. Had the Bears found a way to beat the Packers and Cutler missed the Super Bowl, then the continued questioning of Cutler’s physical and mental toughness would have been understandable. What has happened since the Bears’ loss related to Cutler’s injury borders on ridiculous…

LA Clippers vow to protect Blake Griffin

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

seth-edward-oneal.jpgBecause, quite frankly, Blake is the only guy keeping the Clippers relevant at this point.

With each thundering dunk he’s thrown down and every rebound he’s violently snatched out of the air, this 2011 NBA basketball season, Blake Griffin has won over a nation of fans who consider him one of the most exciting players to join the NBA in years. In three short months, the Los Angeles Clippers rookie has shown he’s well on his way to becoming one of the league’s stars.

In the process, Blake Griffin also has become something else – a target for many opponents who have grown weary of his limitless energy and flyover act.

In the closing seconds of the Clippers’ victory over the Los Angeles Lakers last week, Lamar Odom grabbed Griffin by the jersey and tried to yank him off the court, igniting a brief scrum that led to the ejection of four players. Odom’s complaint: Blake was battling too hard for a rebound – or, in Odom’s words, delivering a “ram in the back” – in a game that had already been decided.

Griffin didn’t retaliate, throwing up his hands in defense and trying to back away from Odom. But the rest of the Los Angeles Clippers – in particular, veteran point guard Baron Davis – have grown increasingly frustrated with the perceived “cheap shots” the young forward has been subject to from opponents. In an interview with Yahoo! Sports on Friday, Davis said it was time for the Clippers to start protecting Griffin. He made good on his vow, pushing Odom and jawing at the Lakers forward during the scrum.

The one thing Davis doesn’t want to happen is for the powerful Griffin to soften his game. “A dunk takes the steam out of people, especially when it’s a big guy,” Davis told…
