2008 World Series of Poker Part 9: Kelly Kim

Friday, November 7th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThe biggest poker tournament of the year is about to conclude this Sunday.

You read it, the 2008 World Series of Poker main event final table is on this Sunday and since it’s merely a few more days away, we will continue to bring you the final nine participants who’ll compete for that elusive WSOP bracelet. Feel free to jump on in their bandwagon.

And this time, we have Kelly Kim. Kelly Kim will enter the final table looking to improve from her short stack status of 2,620,000 in chips. The Korean-born Southern Californian has been successful in professional tournaments for more than 4 years now so engineering a big comeback this Sunday is more than just a possibility.

Kim’s first major cash win Kelly Kimoccurred in the NL hold’em event at the 2003 Grand Slam of Poker in the form of a first place finish and $21,900. His biggest cash win came in at the NLH L.A. Poker Classic Event in 2006, where he finished 3rd for $62,201.

He also has 2 WSOP cash wins from 2007, in the $2,500 NLH 28th for $12,348 and the $1,000 NLH re-buys 57th for $8,067. His poker resume also includes money finishes in a WPT Event 2006 L.A. Poker Classic; 17th for $46,502 and the Caesar’s Palace World Series circuit event in April this year, finishing 29th for $6,440.

Even if the short-stacked Kelly were to go out in 9th place this Sunday…

The Browns have finally given up, will start Brady Quinn

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgAt 3-5, the Browns are probably calling it quits.

Already a full three games behind AFC North leaders Pittsburgh Steelers this 2008-09 NFL football season, the Browns are probably quitting after only nine weeks of football.

The Cleveland Browns know that they have to win at least six of their last eight games to make it to the playoffs and since the Steelers continue to close Cleveland’s window of opportunity with every single game Pittsburgh wins, a playoff stint could be next to an impossibility at this point.

That’s probably why they are looking to bench starter Derek Anderson for the young Brady Quinn. Anderson was completing less than 50 percent of his passes for a 3-5 team that is now a long shot of even making it as a Wild Card team and without anything to lose at this point, these guys feel that Brady Quinnit’s about time they find out why they drafted Quinn in the first place last season.

A star back in Notre Dame, Brady Quinn didn’t play in his rookie year until the final game of the 2007 season. He came in for one drive where he went 3-of-8 for 45 yards and had a TD pass dropped by tight end Kellen Winslow.

He will probably be starting for the first time this Thursday when the Browns host the struggling Denver Broncos. A perfect time to test the young quarterback against a team that lost three in a row? YOU BET.

The problem Brady Quinn would have to face is whether…

Can Allen Iverson bring an NBA Title back to Detroit?

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYep, Iverson was just traded by Denver to Mo Town.

Amazing huh? We’re only in the middle of opening week and yet we already have the first big trade of the 2008-09 NBA basketball season. Allen Iverson, one of the game’s most prolific scorers, is now a Piston after the Denver Nuggets traded him to Detroit for Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess.

Was this a deal that just might give the Detroit Pistons the NBA title come June? Sure, having a guy like Iverson on your team is a huge advantage but was giving up on Billups and McDyess the right way to go?

Billups was the 2004 NBA Finals MVP and Allen Iversonwas one of the key factors why the Pistons have been in the Eastern Conference Finals for six straight years. It would be hard to fill in those shoes considering that the guy has made a career of making big shots in Detroit. But if there’s anyone who can fill the void Billups leaves, Allen Iverson can.

Iverson has been known as a guy who never gives up on the court easily. And while the Pistons continue to promote the blue collar style of basketball the last few years, Iverson has always been a blue collar guy even way back when he was still playing with the 76ers.

Next, we have Antonio McDyess, the third guy of this…

Lewis Hamilton wins 2008 F1 title amidst controversy

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgAnd to tell you honestly, it’s just too bad that the season had to end the way it did in Brazil.

And although I was rooting for Lewis Hamilton to win it all in the 2008 F1 season, what happened in the last moment of the very last race of the season was so fucking terrible that I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Felipe Massa who was LITERALLY screwed of the world title.

You see, it was all set-up for another dramatic finish for the championship in the 2008 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix. It was the last race of the season and Brazilian Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa can STILL win the title in front of his home fans and snatch it away from McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton.

Massa needed to win in Brazil Lewis Hamilton vs Felipe Massaand have Lewis Hamilton not finish better than sixth. That way, Massa can finish the season with 97 points and overtake Hamilton. That was the ‘’ideal finish'’ Ferrari needed to come away with the drivers championship but nobody probably anticipated the kind of finish Formula One saw in Brazil.

Lewis Hamilton STILL had the drivers championship within his grasp in the very last lap of the race running in fifth place. It didn’t matter too that Felipe Massa was leading in Brazil and was on his way to his sixth grand prix win of the season because Hamilton knows even if Massa wins the Brazilian GP, the title will still be his if he finished fifth because of…

Cowboys CB Adam ‘’Pacman'’ Jones is an Alcoholic

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgAnd that got him out of the NFL again.

After looking like Adam ‘’Pacman'’ Jones may have finally been able to salvage his NFL career after the Cowboys gave him another opportunity to play when they signed him up for the 2008-09 NFL football season, he found a way to fuck it all up again.

In case you haven’t heard, Adam ‘’Pacman'’ Jones is once again suspended indefinitely. It all started when he figured getting involved in a fight with his own bodyguard was cool. Now that the league figured the guy has an alcohol problem, I don’t know if Jones will be able to play in the NFL again.

At least TNA Wrestling could Adam Pacman Jonesstill be open to have the former Titan, now former corner for the Dallas Cowboys again. After all, having him stand inside the ring without doing a single wrestling maneuver whatsoever worked for them last time anyway.

Only six weeks after being reinstated from a 17-month suspension because of repeated legal problems, (that’s when he decided to go wrestle for TNA…) Jones was involved in an alcohol-related scuffle last October 7 with one of his bodyguards at a private party in Dallas.

That’s despite the Cowboys organization’s attempts to keep the cornerback out of trouble. The Cowboys hired bodyguards to keep Pacman Jones in…

Greg Oden suffers Injury in his NBA Debut

Friday, October 31st, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYes, the new NBA season finally started and for someone who used to be a promising seven-foot powerhouse, he just wasn’t ready.

Greg Oden finally made his highly anticipated debut in the 2008-09 NBA basketball season after his rookie year was postponed last season because of a knee injury. But after a performance that had him scoring ZERO points, ZERO assists, two fouls and another sidelining injury, I guess it is now safe to assume that drafting Oden with the overall No.1 pick is a bust.

It was all set-up for Greg Oden. He was to play his very first game in the NBA on opening night and lead the Blazers against one of the most popular teams of our generation, the Lakers, under the bright lights of Hollywood. But after a rather pathetic performance only guys like Michael Olowakandi and Kwame Brown can pull off as the overall No.1 pick, Oden got from promising to humorous.

Greg OdenOf course, with Oden making a fool of himself, the Los Angeles Lakers took advantage of the Portland Trail Blazers to score their very first win of the 82-game season.

Led by Kobe Bryant, who scored 23 points while grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists, the Lakers beat the Blazers handily, 96-76. Pau Gasol dropped 15 for L.A. while the returning Andrew Bynum had 8.

Of course, the Portland Trail Blazers are disappointed of the loss. But what’s even more disappointing is the fact that they could miss their prized draft pick from last season for quite a while once…

Philadelphia Phillies win 2008 MLB World Series

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYes, the Phillies have done it and after having Game 5 postponed, it all came to a fitting end in Philly.

You read it, baseball season finally concluded with the Phillies winning the 2008 MLB World Series. In what was the longest game EVER in World Series history, since Game 5 was the first World Series game ever postponed last Tuesday, the Phillies ended their 25-year championship drought after beating the Rays, 4-3.

The Philadelphia Phillies swept all three games at home to relive 1982, the year when they won their last title before this one. The Phillies were able to go from one of the losingest team in baseball to a world champion and after 50 hours of Game 5, they can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Philadelphia PhilliesIn what has become a three-inning sprint, the Phillies jumped on the Tampa Bay Rays the moment they resumed the 6th inning after the umpires called it at the bottom of the 6th last Tuesday.

The Phillies scored to take a 3-2 lead and although the Rays managed to answer back with a run scored at the top of the 7th, Philadelphia answered right back in the very same inning, proving how determined they were in ending it in five games.

‘’It was a crazy way to win it with a suspended game but we did and it’s over and we’re very excited,'’ 45-year-old Phillies pitcher…

Titans remain Perfect after beating the Colts 31-21

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYou read it, the Titans, led by Kerry Collins, actually defeated Peyton Manning and his mighty Colts.

In what is turning out to be one weird 2008-09 NFL football season, the Tennessee Titans, after all the struggles they had in the past, are still undefeated at 7-0 after beating the Colts, 31-21, last Monday night.

How about that huh? With starting quarterback Vince Young NOT PLAYING, the Tennessee Titans are still the only undefeated team in the NFL this season with an old fart like Kerry Collins still leading the team, playing like the best quarterback in the business.

And yes, the Indianapolis Colts were Tennessee Titanstheir last victims. With Tennessee already having a three-game advantage in the AFC South, the Titans were able to further pad their lead in the standings, handing their division rivals with their fourth loss of the season.

The Colts were coming into this Monday Night Football game in do or die mode. They knew they have to win this one if they still have aspirations of a sixth straight AFC South title.

Besides, playing even more powerhouse teams from the AFC like the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers after this one can put their situation from bad to worse but after coming up short in Tennessee last Monday night, bad to worse…

The Brees was strong in London as Saints beat Chargers

Monday, October 27th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThere has to be something with the wind at Wembley Stadium alright that made Drew Brees be that good against the Chargers.

In what was the first game of the 2008-09 NFL football season held at Wembley Stadium, Drew Brees made sure that his Saints wouldn’t regret giving up a home game to play in England last Sunday. After the incredible performance the Saints quarterback came up with, it didn’t matter whether they were home in New Orleans or in London, as long as they got the win to put their team at the .500 mark coming to their bye week.

And yes, Drew Brees sure was on fire behind his center in England, completing 30 of 41 attempts to have 339 yards and three touchdowns. He was perfect, committing no fumbles or interceptions whatsoever while his offensive line gave him all kinds of time inside the pocket, giving up ZERO sacks to the opposing defense.

Drew BreesOf course, the New Orleans Saints won, 37-32 and since Drew Brees was playing his former team, the same team that traded him away after spending five years in San Diego, everybody knew he will have a game like this.

For what it’s worth, Brees’ replacement, if you will, was not that bad as well. San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers went for 341 yards while also coming up with three touchdowns. Rivers and Brees were the top two ranked quarterbacks in the league coming into this game and unfortunately for the young Chargers field general, Wembley Stadium had the BREES blowing just right.

Perhaps Brees was still a little pissed about…

Can the Tennessee Titans have the Perfect Season?

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

seth-edward-oneal.jpgSince these guys will play the agitated Colts on Monday night, now is probably the perfect time to ask this question.

At 6-0, the Tennessee Titans are flirting with perfection this 2008-09 NFL football season. The problem is, other teams have flirted with it in the past and failed miserably.

The team nearest to accomplish the feat was New England and yes, that team was also the one that failed most miserably when they lost the Super Bowl to a Giants team that dropped its first five games of that season. At 6-0, the Tennessee Titans have a shot, but as we all know, it only gets tougher each week.

Looking back, the 1972 Miami Dolphins are Tennessee Titansthe only NFL team to have a ‘’perfect season'’ and win the Super Bowl, following the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. Their undefeated campaign was led by Don Shula and notable teammates Bob Griese, Earl Morrall, and Larry Csonka among many others.

This team went 14-0 in the regular season prior to the extension of the regular season by the NFL, and won all three playoff games, including Super Bowl VII against the Washington Redskins, for an undefeated record of 17-0.

This remarkable feat can be done with the right players…
