The Oklahoma Sooners run their mouths coming into the 2009 BCS National Title Game against the Florida Gators

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Because the Sooners probably figured pissing off the Gators, more specifically, Tim Tebow, will give them a better shot of beating Florida.

After all, the Sooners need all the help they can get coming to the 2009 BCS national championship game. This is the biggest college football game of the season and the Sooners certainly don’t want to end up losing out on the opportunity to bag the big one.

However, the Oklahoma Sooners calling Florida quarterback Tim Tebow the ‘’fourth-best quarterback in the Big 12′’ was a HUGE mistake. I mean, Tebow has strong legs to go with his rocket of an arm, meaning, he can beat you as bad on the ground game as well as in the air, like he usually does, and pissing him off was a bad judgment call on Oklahoma’s part.

So who made that mistake for Dominique Franksthe Oklahoma Sooners? Dominique Franks. Franks started stirring things up for the BCS title game over the weekend when he had the audacity to call Tebow a distant no.4 among quarterbacks in the Big 12.

Dominique Franks said Tebow ranks behind their Oklahoma Sooners quarterback AND 2008 Heisman trophy winner Sam Bradford, (figures…) Texas Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy and Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Graham Harrell.

‘’I think our quarterbacks are better,'’ Dominique Franks said. ‘’Just the way they conduct themselves and how they play on the field. I just think, playing against those guys, it’s a lot harder to…'’

The Chargers and the Ravens beat the Colts and the Dolphins to advance to the AFC Divisional Round

Monday, January 5th, 2009

It was a disappointing last hurrah for two quarterbacks in the AFC as Peyton Manning and Chad Pennington each took early exits this year.

In case you haven’t heard, the 2009 NFL playoffs kicked off this weekend as league MVP Peyton Manning saw his Indianapolis Colts lose to the San Diego Chargers while Chad Pennington’s Cinderella season was cut short for him by the Baltimore Ravens when his Miami Dolphins could only muster nine points to Baltimore’s 27.

Of course, Pennington’s mishap was nothing compared to what Peyton Manning had to endure.

He was coming into this AFC wild card game with the San Diego Chargers only a day after he was Ray Lewisproclaimed as the 2008 NFL Most Valuable Player. To see him go out like that again to the same team was just unfair.

Darren Sproles scooted 22 yards for the winning score 6:20 into overtime and the San Diego Chargers beat the Colts 23-17 in an AFC wild-card game Saturday night, ending Indianapolis’ nine-game winning streak a day after Manning won his third Associated Press NFL MVP award.

Sproles came up big on a night when the Chargers played the final 2 ½ quarters without LaDainian Tomlinson, who stood on the sideline in obvious discomfort from what appears to be a serious groin injury.

Fifty years after the Baltimore Colts won the…

SportsBetting.com previews NFL Wild Card Sunday as the Ravens - Dolphins, Eagles - Vikings games heat-up

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

In case you haven’t heard, the league MVP, Peyton Manning, and his Colts are out. Who’ll be next?

Yes, the 2009 NFL playoffs continue this Sunday with the Ravens and the Dolphins playing to advance in the AFC while the Eagles and the Vikings settle their differences in the NFC. And since guys from SportsBetting.com have their own picks for this Sunday’s huge wild card playoff games, let’s see if those guys can win you all that dough to officially end the Holidays.

The Miami Dolphins were one of the best stories of the year, if not the best after one of the greatest one-year turnarounds in NFL history. The Fish went 9-1 SU in the final ten games of the regular season, but the big question is whether that will Donovan McNabbthat translate into playoff success and profit for bettors. The Dolphins weren’t nearly as good against the line during that stretch, posting a 5-5 ATS mark.

On the other hand, this will be the second trip to South Florida this season for the Baltimore Ravens with the last trip resulting in a 27-13 win. However, sports bettors seem to like the Dolphin story, but SportsBetting.com claims you should not trust them with your money, as Baltimore has been their favorite from the time the line went up.

Currently Baltimore is seeing 75 percent of the betting volume and are now…

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons play the Navy Midshipmen in the 2008 EagleBank Bowl

Friday, December 19th, 2008

The BCS Bowl Games kick off with the EagleBank Bowl. Hopefully, the first one will be as good as the big game in Miami.

The 2008 EagleBank Bowl is the first of what would be an annual college football bowl game. The first one will be played on December 20 at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C. It is one of the two newest BCS bowl games to be approved by the NCAA and this year, we have quite an interesting match-up.

The Navy Midshipmen and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will play for the EagleBank Bowl and since unfamiliarity with each other won’t be an issue for both teams, were hoping to see an exciting finish.

2008 EagleBank BowlThe Dec. 20 contest at RFK Stadium will be a rematch of the Sept. 27 game, when the Navy Midshipmen upset then-unbeaten Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 24-17. The Demon Deacons were ranked 16th at the time.

Navy (8-4) accepted the invitation to the bowl at RFK Stadium when it became bowl eligible. Navy, which is coming off a 34-0 rout of Army, is 6-7-1 in bowl games. This will be the sixth straight postseason appearance for the Midshipmen and since they play in nearby Annapolis, Md., those guys will undoubtedly have a strong following.

The Demon Deacons’ invite came from the EagleBank Bowl’s…

Auburn alum Charles Barkley claims the Auburn Tigers didn’t hire Turner Gill because he’s black

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

In case you didn’t notice, Charles Barkley is stupid.

With the 2008 NCAA college football season over, its reshuffling time for some football programs that failed to produce a successful campaign worth talking about around the campus.

One of which is the Auburn Tigers football program. These guys are looking for a new direction, hiring Gene Chizik of Iowa State to take over their team as head coach. A defensive coordinator for Auburn back in 2004, the Tigers finished a perfect 13-0 then, ranking as high as No.2 all over the country.

The Tigers hope that they would be able to get back on top with Gene Chizik returning to the program. Chizik replaces Tommy Tuberville, who Charles Barkleywas forced to resign a few weeks ago. He won 85 games in 10 seasons.

On the other hand, despite Chizik’s remarkable resume as defensive coordinator of the Auburn Tigers four years ago, he is still the guy who had a dismal 5-19 record as head coach in two seasons with the Iowa State Cyclones. Auburn hiring him was a shocker to some and you can’t blame them.

One guy, however, took it to another level.

Auburn alum Charles Barkley, lobbying for Buffalo’s Turner Gill, was enraged about the fact that his school hired a white dude as head coach. He claims the Tigers didn’t hire Gill just because of the fact that he’s black. And while that may be the most stupid…

Tony Romo to Terrell Owens or Tony Romo to Jason Witten? Which is better for the Dallas Cowboys?

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

A win, that’s for sure.

Despite being picked as one of the heavy favorites to win the Super Bowl even before the 2008-09 NFL football season began, the Dallas Cowboys’ playoff bid this year is still uncertain, still needing to win their last two games in Baltimore and Philly to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Last season, my emotions went from the highest of the highs to the lowest of the lows as Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys blew a spectacular season only a few short weeks before the playoffs started.

This season, they’re at it again. After a Dallas Cowboysflawless start to the season, an injury to Tony Romo got the Cowboys struggling. Then star corner Pacman Jones gets banned, reinstated and out again for the season with an injury.

And to make matters worse, Terrell Owens is accusing both Romo and Jason Witten of designing their own plays, leaving him out in the cold.

For now, a win over the defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants last Sunday night should keep these issues within the Cowboys organization from…

NFL Week 15 picks from SportsBetting.com (They think the Lions will stay winless and lose to the Colts too…)

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

The pathetic Lions are still chasing for a Perfect IMPERFECT season.

While the Tennessee Titans abandoned their quest for a perfect season a few weeks ago, there is still another team on a perfect run heading into the last weeks of the 2008-09 NFL football season. The Detroit Lions haven’t given up yet.

They seem focused, committed and have their eye firmly on the goal of a perfect 0-16 year.

The Detroit Lions have hardly been kings of the jungle, resembling more the lion from the Wizard of Oz, sans the courage, going 1-19 SU and 6-14 ATS in the last 20 games.

SPORTSBETTING.COM always has a ton of fun and different proposition wagers offered up and right now they are asking the question:

“Will the Detroit Lions finish the regular season 0-16?”

http://www.oddjack.com/wp-content/peyton_manning7.jpgIt is called the “Lions Perfection Prop”.

If you think Yes, indeed they will lose the rest of the way, a $70 wager gets you a profit of $50 (-140). If you feel they can find a way to win a game, a $50 wager cashes a profit of $60 (+120).

Detroit is having one of its usual crappy seasons, but this one is even crappier than most, as they are 0-13 straight up. Against the spread they’ve put together a 5-8 ATS mark, but has been covering more often than not lately going 5-4 ATS in their last nine games, but still, the scoreboard loses are piling up.

Looking at the Lions’ schedule, three games remain; a road game in Indy (very tough for them to win there obviously), a home game vs. New Orleans (they might have a shot vs. a potentially disinterested Saint team) and a final game in Wisconsin against the Packers (it’ll be tough to win at Lambeau on the final week of the season)…do you see a win amongst that…

SportsBetting.com introduces the Heisman candidates while offering up to 70 percent in bonuses for the BCS

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Who will win the Heisman?

Strike a Pose – the prestigious Heisman trophy will be handed out this Saturday, a fact that hasn’t escaped sports bettors from around the country as Heisman wagering volume has really picked up.

It’s been a big week for college football betting, with the Bowl schedule being announced and the build up to the awarding of the trophy for the best collegiate player in the country.

The Heisman field has been whittled down to three potential winners:

Last year’s winner and Florida Gators QB Tim Tebow, listed at +300 at SPORTSBETTING.COM, Oklahoma Sooners Sam Bradfordsignal caller Sam Bradford who is listed as the odds-on favorite at -400 and Texas Longhorns pivot Colt McCoy who is the longer shot at +500.

It’s easy to see why Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford have favorable odds; the two will be meeting in the BCS championship game with the Gators favored by 3.5-points.

Tebow took the honor last year and has posted impressive numbers again this year.

On the way to leading Florida to a 12-1 record, an SEC title and a berth in the title game, Tebow earned a 176.74 QB rating on…

Atlanta Falcons rookie quarterback Matt Ryan is the 2009 ESPN NEXT Winner (Whatever that means…)

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Yes, the Atlanta Falcons rookie is this year’s ESPN NEXT winner.

With Matt Ryan leading the Atlanta Falcons to what has been an unexpectedly solid campaign for the Vick-less birds in the 2008-09 NFL football season, choosing him to win ESPN’s annual celebration of the sporting world’s next big thing was easy.

With Michael Vick casted away from Atlanta, Matt Ryan did more than just filling in the guy’s shoes until he comes back with the Falcons, hopefully. With the kind of season Ryan has been having this year, Atlanta probably has already forgotten all about Vick, once one of football’s most explosive players.

And if ever Michael Vick does Matt Ryancome back and joins the Falcons, he’s now expendable since the Falcons already know they have a young quarterback who can lead them to playoff appearances now.

Matt Ryan is now the man in the ATL and him becoming the 2009 ESPN NEXT Athlete should not surprise Falcon fans.

Matt Ryan wasn’t supposed to launch his first NFL pass 62 yards for a touchdown or earn NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors in only his eighth start for the Atlanta Falcons. He wasn’t suppose to lead a playoff charge with pretty much the same supporting cast that finished last in the division a season ago either, all the while winning over a significant segment of…

Canada has a new Hero in Poker in Daniel Negreanu after he won the BC Open Poker Championships

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

The BC Open Poker Championships is one of Canada’s biggest poker events SINCE they really don’t have much going on up there.

And with Canada native Daniel Negreanu winning it all, the guy clearly is one of the most popular Canadian poker players we have in the game today and I won’t be surprised if his native country looks up to him now as its new hero at the poker tables.

Daniel Negreanu, who has been playing great poker by the way if you look at his record in recent events, won in the main event of the 2008 BC Open Poker Championships.

For his win, Negreanu further pads his bankroll with a cool $371,910 in prize money. Daniel NegreanuHe has also made his poker resume even more daunting. Canadians? This tournament was won by one of the most popular players in the world.

Unknown to a lot, Negreanu was originally from Toronto. Although he now lives in Las Vegas (the poker player’s home), Negreanu is tickled pink by his win. In an interview, Negreanu confessed that his victory was extra special since he was a Canadian himself. A little cheesy but it probably made him even more popular in Canada.

Who knows? It might even be true.

Despite the sentimental talk, Negreanu was a killer at the poker table. He had to…
