Detroit Casinos Morphing Motor City Into Gambling City

By: mullen

The days of Detroit being known as motor city with rappers and thugs (and both) aspiring to be the next Eminem may be replaced with something else — gambling in style.

Detroit is the next casino destination. A decade ago this may have been difficult to believe, but now the thought of Madonna performing a homecoming gig at the MGM Grand Detroit isn’t too far off. Yes kids, Madonna was from Detroit.

And as it is, Michigan’s identity is getting a revamp. For years, four major casinos operate in Detroit — MGM, Motor City casino, Greektown and Windsor Casino across the Detroit River in Ontario.

transformers_optimus_01.jpgMGM is probably the most major of them all, with its Grand Celebrity Room frequented by famous folks the likes of Rasheed Wallace playing high stakes Baccarat. Many Detroit wage earners have also traded their welding equipment to cards and chips taking jobs in the casinos. Bye-bye to oil and grease, baby.

And that’s all about to get better as a new player is about to take a huge bite off the Michigan gambling market. Four Winds Casino Resort, a new…

No More Virtual Gambling In the Second Life Virtual World

By: mullen

Second Life, that virtual community of, like, 8 million virtual residents who trade virtually and even have sex virtually. Now they’re being deprived of one popular virtual activity, virtual online gambling.

For un-virtually uninterested dude like me, it’s virtual insanity!

Because normal people don’t get off in the virtual world. That’s for people with no life to look forward to. My advice to these guys, go out with real people, get drunk with real people, and for God’s sake have sex with real people!

And what’s Second Life eric cartmanthe next best thing after getting banned from gambling virtually? Go to a real online casino site and play for real. If you don’t want to, well you can always spend those Linden dollars buying stocks at the World Stock Exchange.

Linden Labs, the company responsible for Second Life, has announced as its new ruling the banning of participating in online gambling activities. This comes two months after they made another rule saying it would no longer tolerate “broadly offensive” sexual content in the once free-wheeling world. Punishment for violators is expulsion from ‘The World’. story

Well if they’re gonna act like some cranky-white-right-wing…

Online Gambling Ban Making You Cranky? Try Proxy Betting

By: mullen

We’re all getting cranky with this UIGEA, and I know that in countries where online casino gambling is banned, the sentiments are the same.

But like Michael Crichton said, “Life will always find a way.” Now I know he meant it to describe how gigantic dinosaurs can spring back to life, which we don’t want to happen, but it can be applied to other stuff as well. Like online gambling.

They may invent every crazy ways of sending online gaming to extinction, but they won’t necessarily cut off its head. Players and industry players will only find better ways to keep Internet casinos alive. So to say it loudly, we keep getting smarter while the enemies keep getting dumber.

Proxy Betting For example, have you heard of proxy betting? Somewhere in the northern tip of the Philippines, Internet gaming companies allow players from all over the world to bet on their favorite games, like black jack and baccarat, via proxies. How? With Web Casinos.

Games and tournaments are video streamed online where players can watch from where they are. At the same time, their “proxies” do the betting for them based on their instructions using a VOIP (voice over Internet protocol).

Make no mistake, web gambling is still banned in the Philippines as well as…

Perfume in Baccarat Crystal Flask Relives How Marie Antoinette Smelled

By: Poppy Z

PoppyZIf you want to smell like a queen and own a pricey baccarat cystal in the process, all you need to shell out is $450.

You may or may not remember that last month, a perfume called Sillage de la Reine - “In the Wake of the Queen” - an amber essence of jasmine, orange blossom, tuberose, iris, cedar and sandalwood was released commercially. This was an attempt to recreate a fragrance used by Marie Antoinette.

The deluxe version at 8.5 ounces bottled in Baccarat crystal flasks costs $10,500. At that price, the perfumes were reportedly kept in a locked vault and was only available for purchase via the Internet.

Sillage de la Reine perfume in baccarat crystal flaskAnd here’s the juice, only 10 of it were being sold.

Pure collectors item, indeed. After all not everyone can afford this kind of luxury fit for royalties. Meaning it’s not for the masses to consume.

Even historians agree that the perfume has captured the real thing. Elizabeth de Feydeau, historian and professor at the Versailles School of Perfumes, was seaid to have discovered the authentic formulas used by the former queen’s perfumer Jean-Louis Fargeon.

The discovery led to queenly fortune for her, I supposed.

But now, in an attempt to bring the royal smell to a greater public, the perfume maker Francis Kurkdjian decides to release a crystal phial containing just under an ounce of Sillage de la Reine, which is available for $450 in the Chateau de Versailles gift shop.

Maybe you can wear it around your neck and be your…

Baccarat, Other Secrets to Winning Asian Casino Gamblers (2 of 2)

By: MaxCohen

Baccarat’s winning number is the lucky 9 but Asian casino gamblers are way crazier about number 8.

Chinese gambling superstitions, like lucky number 8 and unlucky number 4, hold a key to gaining Asian casino gamblers, the newest ‘it’ group of customers in Las Vegas, Macau, and Native American Indian casinos. Combine that with popular Asian casino gambling games, like baccarat, pai gow, and sic bo, and casinos just might have a winning formula to justify their Asian dragon pits and Chinatown buses.

Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino, the world’s second largest casino, is upping its draw to Asian players with a $740 million expansion opening in summer next year. It will add 12,000 sqft of casino gaming space with 46 Asian gaming tables, and a 4,000 sqft Hong Kong style food outlet.

A new 5,000 sqft bus lobby will boost current marketing in which 50 buses transport 45 customers each daily from the nearby Boston and New York Chinatowns. For $10 round-trip, a player gets a coupon package worth $35 including a free bet and meal.

Asian & Chinese Casino Games

“20% is driven by our Asian American patrons, and that is how we run the floor. That is the same percentage of table games we are putting out there that are geared toward the Asian player,” says VP Rocco Santoro of the 2,000-plus Asian Americans gambling daily at Indian casino Mohegan Sun. Baccarat is easily the casino game of choice for Asian highrollers, but how about those who’d rather wager less? Santoro has more than a few answers.

Baccarat & Mini Baccarat are a hit among Asian gamblers with a high bankroll. The object is to…

Baccarat, Other Secrets to Winning Asian Casino Gamblers (1 of 2)

By: MaxCohen

In a 4th floor casino with no #8 seat, your chances of winning Asian gamblers are baccarat, or zero.

Knowing their gambling superstitions (like lucky numbers) and choice of casino games (like baccarat) is half the battle over Asian casino gamblers, the newest ‘it’ group this side of town. Whether immigrants or tourists, Asian gamblers have indeed become a segment no casino can afford to lose, from Las Vegas to Macau and Native American Indian casino gaming reservations.

Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino, the world’s two largest casinos, are both Indian casinos situated in Connecticut. It is the wealthiest US state per capita, with a population that is predominantly white, at 76%. Only 3.2% are Asian American, yet this market is indispensable enough that both casinos send buses out to pick up Asians customers at the neighboring Chinatowns of Boston and New York.

Asian & Chinese Gambling Superstitions

Over 2,000 Asian Americans gamble daily at Mohegan Sun, or 20% of all customers, says VP Rocco Santoro. It is imperative that their casino dealers and floor supervisors, half of whom are Asian, be trained to be culturally correct. “For instance, when introducing oneself to an Asian player, the lower you bow, the more respect you show,” he says.

As for the numbers game, Santoro says Asians consider the number 4 as unlucky and the number 8 as lucky. For this reason, Mohegan Sun would include a No. 8 seat but skip a…

Macau Casinos Like StarWorld Challenge Las Vegas Invasion

By: picaresque

Irony: Macau gambling will surpass Las Vegas, thanks to Las Vegas investors in Macau.

News has floated all year that Macau will overtake Las Vegas in gambling revenue by 2007. What does not enjoy as much spotlight is that Las Vegas casino gambling investors themselves are causing much of this income boost. Local China-based casino operators are not about to sit back; raising the stakes with new casino developments of their own, like the new StarWorld casino hotel, a new game is on.

macau-casino.jpgMacau is the newest darling of casino gamblers. It is a fast-rising hotspot for Asian highrollers’ favorite game of baccarat, the most popular gambling game in the region. Gamblers are additionally drawn to Macau casinos for the tourist novelty of its homegrown gambling games like fantan and daisiu – the thinking is you will find Las Vegas games in Macau but you won’t find Macau games in Las Vegas.

Months into forecasts that Macau will overtake Las Vegas in casino gaming, Macau continues to climb steadily and narrow the gap between itself and Las Vegas. China’s baccarat gaming capital recently saw an over 12% annual increase in gambling and betting revenue, shattering a previous record it set only a while back.
