Australia v Sri Lanka in 2007 Cricket World Cup final

By: J.J. Jack

As expected, powerhouse Australia is in the 2007 Cricket World Cup final. They will face Sri Lanka on Saturday as the tournament comes to a close.

I don’t know about you but I always knew we will see the Aussies in the 2007 Cricket World Cup Final game. There’s just something about these ‘’heavy favorites'’ that they always, more often than not, come through what’s expected of them.

Australia will face Sri Lanka on Saturday for the 2007 Cricket World Cup championship match. At this point, does it even matter who the Aussies play? You just know they’re going to win it all now one way or the other anyway.

ricky_ponting.jpgAnd yeah, to prove just how confident Australia is heading to their cricket world cup title game on Saturday, Australia cricket team captain Ricky Ponting says they are not afraid of Sri Lanka. Heck, who’s telling him they’re afraid of those guys anyway?

Sri Lanka is coming off a seven-wicket defeat heading to the 2007 Cricket World Cup final on Saturday. Stars like Muttiah Muralitharan, Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga were rested, probably to have them ready for powerhouse Australia.

Of course, the Australian captain doesn’t agree with the tactic.

‘’They had a chance to make a statement in that game but chose not to,'’ Australia cricket team captain Ricky Ponting said.

‘’They played some very good cricket on Tuesday but I really like the match-up. We know that Murali will do what he does, we know that Vaas is a very good bowler with the new ball but we have…'’

Bennett King resigns as West Indies head coach in the STILL ongoing 2007 Cricket World Cup

By: Syndicate

Now what?

In a stunning turn of events, West Indies head coach Bennett King resigns as the West Indies head coach after leading his team to elimination from the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

Yep, it turns out that King couldn’t bare the humiliation of leading the 2007 Cricket World Cup hosts to such miserable losses. Of course, King’s resignation was inevitable.

‘’The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has accepted with regret the resignation of coach Bennett King,'’ West Indies team officials said a statement.

bennett_king.jpgBennett King’s departure leaves the West Indies cricket team without a coach merely days before the team plays a Test match at Lord’s. For what it’s worth, the 42-year-old coach will remain with the team until May 31 to help set up the West Indies academy.

King has been… well… KING of West Indies cricket since October of 2004. His contract was due to run until November.

‘’Mr. King was responsible for establishing and managing the Australian academy and developed the basic plan for a WICB academy structure,'’ the WICB…

Can this one-day strategy crap help England and their poor outing in the 2007 Cricket World Cup?

By: Syndicate

What’s with cricket that makes England suck so bad?

England is king when it comes to football, (soccer for all ya’ll American fans of this little site…) but when it comes to cricket, it’s an entirely different thing. And hell, it shows in the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

Apparently, England came up with this one-day strategy bullshit in order to help them in the ongoing 2007 Cricket World Cup. So far, it hasn’t help them whatsoever and some people believe that England’s one-day strategy desperately needs an overhaul. QUICK.

england_fans.jpgBrian Rose, a member of a panel set up to review the Ashes disaster, says England’s poor World Cup results betray a failure to adapt to the modern game.

‘’Other sides are more aggressive. We don’t seem to have taken the game forward in comparison,'’ said Rose, Somerset’s director of cricket.

‘’We have to come up quickly with a philosophy of how to play the game.'’

Is England cricket head coach Duncan Fletcher the one to blame for England’s woes in the Cricket World Cup? As of press time, Fletcher still refuses to single out the guy, but damn, he’s really getting pretty close to doing just that.

Fletcher has guided England from last to second in the world Test rankings since taking over late in 1999 but his side are seventh in the one-day standings, above just West Indies of the major Test-playing nations.

‘’The comparison between England one-day performances and the English Test team over the last few years is black and white, apart from a few peaks,'’ Rose said. ‘’I think Fletcher is trying to motivate them but…'’

Will somebody beat Australia and stop their 26-game winning streak in the 2007 Cricket World Cup?

By: Syndicate

Okay, we get it, you guys are the favorites to win the 2007 Cricket World Cup, but c’mon, stop pounding them all. It’s getting ridiculous already…

Australia came to the 2007 Cricket World Cup tournament as the heavy favorites to lift the trophy when it’s all said and done. Guess what, they haven’t lost one goddamn game since entering the tournament.

Australia wrapped up a seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka with seven overs to spare, scoring 232-3 to extend their unbeaten World Cup run to 26 games. Ricky Ponting (66) and Andrew Symonds (63) saw Australia home with an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 106.

kangaroo_jack.jpgOf course, Australia ‘’el capitan'’ Adam Gilchrist was big for the Aussies again.

The game seemed to be turning against Australia as Jayawardene lofted McGrath back over his head for four. Tait continued to prove expensive as Jayawardene sealed his 38th ODI fifty with a huge pulled six over square leg, while Silva reached his own half-century off 91 balls.

Silva eventually fell for 64 when he tried to slog-sweep Brad Hogg but got a top edge to Michael Clarke at short fine leg, and his captain soon followed when he was beaten in the flight by Hogg and stumped by, guess who…

Stephen Fleming believes the New Zealand side will become the 2007 Cricket World Cup champions

By: Syndicate

Of course he thinks that, he is after all the team captain of the New Zealand cricket team.

New Zealand cricket team captain Stephen Fleming believes that his side will win the 2007 Cricket World Cup. Yep, no matter how controversial the tournament has become after the sudden death of Pakistan cricket head coach Bob Woolmer.

‘’We know we are capable of winning it, it’s just about how we play or how we let the opposition play,'’ said New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming.

stephen_fleming.jpg‘’As we get down to the business end it’s going to come down to two games to win the World Cup. That’s an exciting prospect but also a scary one.'’

The New Zealand Kiwis have won all six of their games in the West Indies, topping the Super 8 table of the 2007 Cricket World Cup on run-rate from Australia. Yep, these guys are on the verge of the semi-finals.

Stephen Fleming adds, ‘’We’re in the semis or close to it by winning one more game. To get to that point we’ve got three tough games where…'’

Is the England cricket national team on the brink of elimination from the 2007 Cricket World Cup?

By: Syndicate

As of press time, England is still alive.

Yep, as bad as England played Bangladesh for their nervy victory in the 2007 Cricket World Cup, they are STILL in contention for the cricket world cup title. However, if they want to bag it all this year, then these guys must play a whole lot better than what they showed against Bangladesh in Barbados.

Next for England is South Africa and they know that they have to improve on a whole lot more if they want to keep their title hopes alive in the West Indies.

England cricket team captain Michael Vaughan said, ‘’We will go into the match against michael_vaughan.jpgSouth Africa with the knowledge that we have to improve our game. It’s sometimes difficult to chase small targets and we could have been more positive with our batting.'’

‘’But the Bangladesh spinners are always a handful. Importantly, we got over the line and two points are in the bag.'’

For all ya’ll who missed it, England’s strong bowling performance left them with a target of just 144 to chase, which should have been a formality. But a series of nervous shots, and some tenacious work from Bangladesh in the field, left them 110-6 before old heads Paul Nixon and Paul Collingwood steered them home.

Michael Vaughan said, ‘’Chasing 140, people will say we should have gunned it and knocked them off in 20 overs but we were respectful of the way they bowl, we were respectful of the pitch we played on and…'’

More witnesses needed on murder of Pakistan’s Bob Woolmer in the 2007 Cricket World Cup

By: Syndicate

At this point, the Jamaican police investigating the Bob Woolmer murder case is just going nowhere.

The Jamaican police made an appeal to the public for more witnesses to come forward regarding the murder of Pakistan cricket head coach Bob Woolmer in the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

Apparently, their investigation is just leading them NOWHERE and quite frankly, they’re just making an ass of themselves now.

Deputy police commissioner Mark Shields urged people who had visited Kingston’s Pegasus hotel in the 72 hours before the unfortunate death of Bob Woolmer to get in touch. And he urged fans or tourists who had already left Jamaica to contact police.

For all ya’ll too busy watching the 2007 March Madness bracket tournament and couldn’t care less about this Bob Woolmer murder mystery, the Pakistan cricket head coach was found strangled in his hotel room after Pakistan’s surprise World Cup loss to Ireland on March 17.

Now, the police in Jamaica is just begging for any leads.

‘’What I need to do is to identify everybody in the hotel from Friday through to Sunday when Bob’s body was found, in an effort to establish everybody’s movements during that period of time,'’ Mark Shields said.

‘’Not just as suspects but as potential witnesses, people who may have heard something, seen something within the hotel that raised their suspicions, that so far…'’

Bob Woolmer murdered to hide the Pakistan match-fixing scandal in the 2007 Cricket World Cup?

By: Syndicate

Yep, we’re still talking about the murder of Pakistan head coach Bob Woolmer.

There are rumors flying around that Pakistan head coach Bob Woolmer was murdered to hide the match-fixing scandal involving Pakistan and Ireland in the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

Yep, Woolmer was rumored to be working on a document where he plans to expose the match-fixing that took place when his Pakistan cricket national team lost to Ireland that ultimately eliminated them from the tournament. Understandably, people involved in the alleged match-fixing scandal couldn’t afford to have Woolmer’s words out in the open, leading us to where we are now.

Of course, the entire Ireland cricket national team is not happy about these developments. Ireland team captain Trent Johnston has already dismissed the idea that their win over 2007 Cricket World Cup powerhouse Pakistan was fixed.

‘’We keep hearing things about match-fixing,'’ said Johnston, who felt the rumors demeaned Ireland’s display. ‘’You only have to look at that game and the way we bowled and fielded and I was just hugely proud of the guys.'’

Johnston adds, ‘’All the rumors about the match have probably taken the shine off it a little for us, but this is the first day it’s really sunk in that we’re here and we’re pinching ourselves a bit.'’

‘’It is a tragedy what happened to Bob and it has taken away a little of the excitement, but we’ve had to move on.'’

In other words, SCREW WOOLMER, WE’RE IN THE 2007 CRICKET WORLD CUP SUPER 8!

Jamaican police investigating the Bob Woolmer murder case dismissed some media reports that claim suspects on Woolmer’s killer have been identified. Deputy police commissioner Mark Shields hit out at ‘’totally wrong'’ reports and said speculation was unhelpful. He said police were ‘’nowhere near'’ naming names and emphasized that the probe was likely to…

The Super 8 of 2007 Cricket World Cup is not boring

By: J.J. Jack

Okay, I admit it, cricket is boring.

As much as Syndicate loves the 2007 Cricket World Cup, one can’t deny that the game of cricket is just plain complicated, too confusing and yeah… BORING. But hey, as of press time, this cricket tournament has narrowed down its field to the Super 8, making this entire thing finally as NEWSWORTHY as the Bob Woolmer murder case.

Yep, just like what we have in the 2007 March Madness bracket tournament where we narrow the Field of 65 teams into the Sweet 16, the Elite Eight, the Final Four and finally, to the two teams that will play for the NCAA College Basketball national title.

super_8.jpgIn the Super 8 round, every cricket team plays six games against every other team EXCEPT the side they played in the group stage. (Told you it’s confusing…) The Super 8 includes the four group winners; Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies.

These four teams will begin with two extra points after the win they got from the second-placed teams jammed in the other side of the Super 8. The other side of the Super 8 include England, South Africa, Bangladesh and the somewhat controversial Ireland.

A win in the 2007 Cricket World Cup Super 8 round will result to two points while a tie or a no contest will award a point each. If a team finishes in a tie with another team, the team with the most wins or the best run-rate or most wickets taken per balls bowled brakes…

Who is the killer of Pakistan head coach Bob Woolmer in the 2007 Cricket World Cup murder case?

By: Syndicate

ZERO.

So far, the Jamaican police has done a great job in finding out just who is the killer of Pakistan head coach Bob Woolmer. For all ya’ll who have been living under a rock lately, Pakistan head coach Bob Woolmer was killed following his Pakistan cricket team’s loss to Ireland, ultimately eliminating them from the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

The Jamaican police has been investigating the Bob Woolmer murder case ever since, and guess what, they don’t have any suspects yet whatsoever. NICE. Oh yeah, there were reports that say the Jamaican police did name a couple of suspects, but the authorities denied the claim.

pakistan_killer1.jpgMark Shields, the Jamaican Deputy Police Commissioner, claimed these reports are ‘’totally wrong'’ and said that speculations like these are unhelpful. So, how close is the authorities really in naming one goddamn suspect?

He said police are ‘’nowhere near'’ naming names and emphasized that the probe was likely to take a long time. Mr. Shields also said the media speculation about the case was distressing to Woolmer’s family.

And what, telling them that you guys are ‘’nowhere near'’ naming suspects is not?

Shields told journalists that there were many potential suspects and even more potential witnesses, and that gathering information would take time. ‘’We are going to do it properly, thoroughly and professionally and at the end of it it may be that we might, we might identify a suspect from…'’
