Yep, USA made their 2008 Olympic debut and boy, was it a statement game.
The Olympic basketball team from USA came to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games with a sense of urgency, trying to redeem themselves from the debacle they suffered four years ago in Athens.
When they had the chance to finally make their debut against China, Team USA made sure that they will be able to prove a point to whoever has begun to doubt if they still are the kings of the hardwood.
And after beating Yao Ming and
his Chinese national team 101-70, it looks like USA has more than proven a point. They looked like a team ready to redeem themselves since 2004, heck, these guys looked like they really want the gold medal this time. Well, at least after one game.
In what was probably the biggest basketball game in China’s history, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and the rest of the Americans made a mockery of China’s defense, throwing it down every single time they had an opportunity to dunk on any of the giant Chinese players unfortunate enough to find themselves under the rim.
Hell, I even saw Deron Williams try to dunk the ball on the seven-foot…

Wha?!?
For a guy like Hulk Hogan who clearly has the hots for his own daughter that he got himself a girlfriend that looks like her, and Kimbo Slice who just plain looks weird, coming up with a kids’ movie that stars both of them was just unthinkable.
Who in the right frame of mind will choose to have these guys star in a kids’ movie anyway? Stereo Vision Entertainment, Inc. (OTCBB: SVSN) has, announcing that the undefeated (and scary) Mixed Martial Arts star Kimbo Slice will co-star with the somewhat sick Hulk Hogan in a 3D kids’ comedy, ‘’Kung Fu U.'’
‘’Kung Fu U‘’ in 3D is a
Disney-type comedy about of a bunch of nerds and misfits that are sent away by their wealthy parents to the Brentwood Academy (a.k.a. Kung Fu U) to learn the finer arts of self-defense.
It’s a heart-warming romp where the rather weathered warriors come to the rescue for the kids, and in turn, the kids rescue the warriors’ seemingly lost souls from what had been their eternal apathy.
It’s a feel-good story that aims to reminds us that we’re…

WOAH WOAH WOAH… This should be the biggest trade of the NFL offseason.
As the 2008-09 NFL football season draws near, we already have the biggest trade made even before teams start playing with that pigskin. Ladies and gentlemen, Jason Taylor was finally SAVED from a shithole like Miami and will now play for the nation’s capital, Washington.
You read it, Jason Taylor was traded by the Miami Dolphins to the Washington Redskins after the Redskins lost defensive end Phillip Daniels for the rest of the year and desperately needed to fill the void he left.
With Jason Taylor, not only has
the Washington Redskins fill that void, they probably became instant title contenders in the process. Of course, it is yet to be seen if Taylor can really carry the Redskins over the hump but as far as the Redskins organization is concerned, Jason Taylor is a ‘’Taylor-made fit.'’
‘’We’re fortunate there was a guy that caliber on the market when somebody got hurt,'’ Washington Redskins executive vice president Vinny Cerrato said. ‘’Normally, in most years, there’s not a guy of that caliber on the market.'’
Why was this guy readily available for the Redskins? EASY. Taylor wanted to be saved from the shithole that is Miami and when he…

You just know that it’s officially ON now.
The 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China is almost here and as far as the national basketball team of Germany is concerned, they made it just in the nick of time, thanks to NBA German phenom Dirk Nowitzki of course.
You read it, Germany has qualified for the coming Beijing Games on August 8, joining the American team in what should be a very strong Group B basketball division in the Olympics.
It was the LAST available spot in Beijing
and Germany seized the opportunity, making sure they will have that one remaining spot. Led by Dirk Nowitzki, Germany beat Puerto Rico, 96-82, to finish in third place at the Olympic qualifying tournament.
The Dallas Mavericks German superstar finished with 32 points to earn a possible rematch with the powerhouse United States team in the Olympics. The last time the Germans met the Americans in an international basketball tournament, it was in the semifinals of the 2006 world championships when the Germans came up with an upset win over this American team flooded with NBA talent.
Although Germany was defeated by Spain in the end…

Yep, apparently, Yankees won’t be present for Monday’s Home Run Derby.
The 2008 MLB All-Star Break continues on Monday for the Home Run Derby. And while the entire baseball community continues to pay homage to Yankee Stadium, this year’s host of the All-Star festivities, before it undergoes somewhat of a rebirth, no Yankee will be able to take part in what would be the last time somebody blasts a ball out of the ballpark in an All-Star weekend.
You read it; no Alex Rodriguez, no Jason Giambi. Did I already mention A-Rod won’t be in it? A season after hitting the record books for his distinct ability to blast the ball out of the ballpark, he said no for this one.
The last time Madonna’s new boy toy participated in a Home Run Derby was back in 2002. Why hasn’t he participated since was because of the fear that he might damage his own swing for a useless waste of energy like a Derby.
So how did he damage his swing when he participated in the Derby in 2002? It was so broken that he came up with four home runs in the first four games after the All-Star break. Go figure.
That’s also the year when he went on to score 30 more home runs. Yep, that’s more than any player in the whole sport. If that’s what he calls…

Yes, I can’t understand why two big football clubs are going ga-ga for a guy who’ll miss a month of the football season.
And it doesn’t even matter if he’ll be playing in the Spanish league or if he’ll stay with Man-U to play the 2008-09 English Premier League season, the fact of the matter is, Cristiano Ronaldo is out for at least a month. Would you gamble on a guy who is yet to prove he can come back to the pitch back in his usual form?
Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo (yes, as of press time, he’s still a member of the reigning English football champions…) will miss about a month of the coming football season after undergoing surgery on his rather troublesome right ankle.
According to the Manchester United Red Devils, Ronaldo’s operation in Holland was a success but it will take Professor Niek van Dijk about a month before he can decide whether the Portugese footballer can go back doing what he does best.
No, that’s not tease us with a possible move to Real Madrid or make his female fans drool every single time he takes off his shirt, what he does best if play football and that’s exactly why the Spanish football giants have been clamoring for him to play for them and defend their Spanish football title in the coming 2008-09 Spanish Primera Liga.
The following is a statement released by his current team from Old…

Although he did not directly say it, you just have this feeling that probably the biggest star in football wants a change, starting with his team.
Before the 2008-09 English Premier League season begins, we already heard the news that could very well have a huge impact on English football. Real Madrid from the Spanish Primera Liga wants Cristiano Ronaldo out of England.
If Real pulls this off, Cristiano Ronaldo will be the second English football star they pried out of England, the first one being David Beckham, also from Manchester United. And while the club still refuses to sell their Portugese superstar, FIFA president Sepp Blatter himself hinted that Man-U should just let Ronaldo go if the player really wants to leave.
And guess what, Ronaldo agrees with him. FIFA president Sepp Blatter sort of described Man-U’s refusal to let Ronaldo go where he wants to be, a case of ‘’modern slavery'’ and although he did not directly pointed the finger on the reigning English football champions, you just know Old Trafford got the point.
Sure, Cristiano Ronaldo is not as well-known as a David Beckham yet but the guy still has his entire football career in front of him and being one of the biggest football stars in England already at such a young age, a transfer to…

And while stories about people switching poker teams rarely land on the pages of OddJack, it’s Shannon Elizabeth and that’s reason enough.
Shannon Elizabeth turned heads with her roles in the Scary Movie, Tomcats, and Cursed. She also appeared in That ’70s Show and appeared in Playboy and Maxim magazines.
If her name still doesn’t ring a bell, think of the name Nadia, Shannon Elizabeth’s role as the sultry foreign exchange student in the comedy, American Pie is hard to forget.
Well, here’s hoping her opponents at the poker table forget lest they start folding their winning hands in an effort to win the heart of the Hollywood pin-up girl, who for some reason, plays poker very very good.
Fresh from her appearance in the hilarious poker film The Grand, Shannon Elizabeth is now ready to take on real-life poker on a serious level.
This ‘Dancing with the Stars’ beauty is the most recent member of DoylesRoom’s celebrity roster. She is certainly a welcome addition to Team Brunson’s already potent mix of acclaimed poker professionals and card-playing celebrities.
But don’t start thinking Shannon Elizabeth was chosen for her beauty alone.
In the poker community, Shannon has been slowly making a…

Apparently, there’s this other guy who failed to pay his tab to Wynn Las Vegas too.
After news about Charles Barkley failing to pay up his debt to Wynn Las Vegas broke out last May, it seems we have another guy who fell to the same embarrassing episode.
And this time, we have Joe Francis, the founder of the Girls Gone Wild videos. He he… And while Barkley had a whopping $400,000 debt to settle, (which we assume he did already…) this guy did Barkley one better, a whopping $2 million more.
It was last May when Charles Barkley announced that he’s done with gambling after settling his $400,000 debt (or so he claims…) with Wynn Las Vegas. With Joe Francis owing the gambling
spot a whole lot more than that, I wonder what this will do to a guy who films tits and asses for a living.
‘’I like to go into Vegas, it’s a fun place, but you know what, I’ve got to stop gambling. That’s the bottom line.'’
That’s what Barkley said then. As for Joe Francis, he ain’t saying the same kind of shit yet. After all, who in the right frame of mind can say that he’s really done with gambling? I certainly can’t say that.
(Then again, only guys reading gambling sites like…)

Her dress. Apparently, that was really the reason.
Coming to the 2008 Wimbledon Championships, many thought Maria Sharapova will at least have a striking chance of defending her title after winning Wimbledon last year.
But after the hot and sexy Maria Sharapova got her sweet little ass eliminated by a virtual unknown, fellow Russian Alla Kudryavtseva, every single fan watching the match were probably second guessing themselves if what they just witnessed actually happened.
That also means we’ll have a new
champion in England as the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships continue. And even though majority of the male population probably won’t give a rat’s ass about the tournament now that Sharapova is gone, the remaining title hopefuls will still look to continue riding the momentum that got them this far.
I, personally, was planning to keep my eyes glued on tennis but after Ana Ivanovic also took an abrupt exit after the third round, there would be really nothing else for me to watch. I certainly wouldn’t want to start rooting for two gorillas carrying the Williams bloodline. I know you feel the same way too.
So what did push Alla Kudryavtseva to end Sharapova’s run in this…
