Whoopi Goldberg officially takes over the big dent, literally, left by Rosie O’Donnell on The View.

Not exactly good news for Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Not only because big-mouthed Rosie stamped her seal of approval on the choice, also because Whoopi is not exactly there to make Elizabeth’s life any better.

Zip it for people who thinks Barbara Walters made a safe choice in this lady. I don’t think Whoopi would back down when the endless discussion on that little problem in Iraq comes up. Remember how she got fired from her last job at Slim-Fast for a controversial speech about Bush?

We all know Ms. Goldberg always says what she means to say. Ain’t no stoppin’ this gal. Although reports have it that she has assured her new boss Barbs that she would only be “a little edgy” on the show.

Maybe she’s missing the point here. After Rosie’s messy stint, viewers want edgy. And I mean Jerry Springer-trashy edgy, the kind that will send Elizabeth’s temperature to the roof and break the chair on her co-host’s spine column.

The ongoing debate is all about whether another neophyte online poker lucky qualifier will steal the World Series of Poker crown, or rather bracelet, from the poker pros.

In fact no one’s afraid of the pros anymore. Because we all know they’re beat-able. Who gives a crap about them being experienced and having strategies and all. With all their books and videos flooding the stores today, we already know their secrets. We’ve read their minds and studied their moves.

So yeah, they’re no longer that imposing on the tables. But there’s another group of poker players we seem to be taking out of the equation: the celebrity poker players. By celebrity we mean they may come from film, music, TV or sports.

We somehow view these celebrity players as added attractions, or simply sprinkling glitter to the event. Sure they’re not winning the titles, but the serious celebrity poker players do earn respect from the poker community, finishing in the money, and frequenting the tournament circuit.

 A few even made headlines like Jennifer Tilly when when she became the first Hollywood star to take home a WSOP gold bracelet in the Ladies’ No Limit Hold’em event. She then broke records again by winning the invitational 2005 WPT Ladies night. Her WPT win made her the first woman to win both the major WPT and WSOP women’s events.

Pretty boy Ben Affleck, and once rumored having gambling problems, did well in 2004 when he won the California State Poker Championship.

James Woods and Shannon Elizabeth aren’t doin’ bad either as spokespersons for online poker sites, Hollywood Poker and Bodog Poker, respectively.

Armageddon before Fourth of July perhaps?

Yup, apparently, a huge asteroid, approximately a half-mile in diameter, will make a very close encounter with the Earth right before Fourth of July. Yup, on July 3 to be exact.

Well, that is according to a Local 6 News report.

The asteroid is named 2004 XP14 and will be as close to the planet as the moon at around 12:25 am Monday morning.

The exact size of the said asteroid is not known as of press time but astronomers are hoping to get a better reading as it approaches closer.

Now what kind of shit is that?!? Ya’ll will wait for it to get closer first? Goddamn, it could be as big as the goddamn sun that can send us all to hell for crying out loud… Sheesh…
