Jennifer Tilly is hot for women at the 2007 WSOP

June 16 2007
By: J.J. Jack

Jennifer Tilly has big ass tits.

Now that THAT is out of the way, yeah, Jennifer Tilly is rooting for all the women at the 2007 World Series of Poker. The bride of Chucky (although Jen Tilly is not really a bride of a scary doll…) can’t seem to stop talking about women. Heck, we’re beginning to think she’s into this whole lesbian thing or something…

Jennifer Tilly, the Academy Award nominee, not to mention the 2005 World Series of Poker ladies’ champion, has a theatrical take on the subject of women in poker. And yeah, people listen to her. She is after all, a poker tournament champion.

‘’You know how you hardly ever see women serial killers?'’ Jennifer Tilly said. ‘’But when you do see one, she really stands out because of her viciousness.'’

‘’It’s kind of the same in poker. The women who are successful playing in tournaments against the men are so competitive, so intense, so strong, it’s kind of amazing how good some of the best female poker players are.'’

As the 2007 World Series of Poker at the Rio in Las Vegas, Nevada heats up, Jennifer Tilly will be a part of the 2007 version of the Queen of Hearts team together with a dozen female poker professionals, celebs and executives who will donate their winnings in any 2007 WSOP tournament to the…

Is 2007 World Series of Poker like one full MLB Season?

June 14 2007
By: J.J. Jack

The 2007 WSOP tournament stretches for seven weeks while the MLB baseball season has 168 games.

Yep, as the 2007 World Series of Poker tournament heats up before our very eyes, can the full seven-week poker frenzy be compared to the ups and downs of a full 168-game MLB baseball season?

Sure. Only shorter. I guess. And if MLB baseball enables you to deal with the excitement and disappointments of an entire season running in an outdoor park, the 2007 WSOP season only lets you do that to a more confined space like sitting on a chair. The rest is more of the same.

doyle_brunson.jpg‘’The World Series of Poker, over the course of 48 days, is not much different from a sports season that runs eight to 10 months,'’ Jeffrey Pollack, commissioner of the World Series, said shortly before the opening ceremony of the world’s biggest and richest poker tournament, yep, it’s the 2007 World Series of Poker in case you didn’t get that.

‘’We have a beginning, a middle marked by a sort of all-star event and an end that captures the world’s attention. But we do it all in a very compressed time period, and in essentially…'’

Las Vegas Poker Stars Now Playing at Golden Nugget

December 1 2006
By: MaxCohen

How does a card room go from pioneering to non-existent to poker celebrities hotspot?

The fate of poker at Golden Nugget Las Vegas Hotel and Casino is as dramatic as cinema; little wonder it is now attracting poker celebs as the setting of a hot new poker movie. The story so far involves Sin City history, a changing of hands, and Shannon Elizabeth.

Golden Nugget casino hotel was the place that would change the way Las Vegas poker is played. From 1946, when it opened in what is now Downtown Vegas, to 1950, it was the gamblers who dealt their own cards in no-limit poker games here. Golden Nugget was the first to introduce the center deal, in which a dealer deals the cards to players. Hence, the leap from home poker to casino poker involving dealers.

Poker had a long good run in Golden Nugget Las Vegas, and then it was dropped. For close to 18 years until April 2004, the casino hotel did not have a poker room, which makes it an even bigger deal that the card room has returned. New owners Landry’s Restaurants, which acquired Golden Nugget in 2005, spurred on a wave of improvements that includes a new poker room as well as casino, high limit slots salon, sports and race book, and keno room, plus hotel amenities.

The new Golden Nugget poker card room has relocated from the…

Nepal King Regains Power in Online Poker

July 29 2006
By: MaxCohen

Poker takes time, something a powerless king has a lot of.

Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev is the King of Nepal, since June 4, 2001, to the present. He was a dictator, seizing total government control in February 2005. Popular pressure caused him to reinstate the Nepalese parliament in April 2006, whereupon he was stripped of all political power and made into a ceremonial monarch.

King Gyanendra turned 59 on July 7 this year, three months after giving up tyranny. So what’s he up to lately? Online poker and blackjack, apparently. Indian newspaper Jana Aastha Weekly reports the emasculated royalty has turned to online gambling to take his mind off his blues.

What sort of blues? The newspaper reveals King Gyanendra suffers from depression, fluctuating blood pressure, and insomnia. Using international credit cards, he’s been prowling the online poker gambling sites and Internet blackjack casinos until three a.m., looking to drown his sorrows in 21’s and Straight Flushes.

Did he try for the World Series of Poker (WSOP)? We have to wonder.

What doesn’t make us wonder as much is why he’s so blue. Nepal King Gyanendra’s rise to power was a tad shady, to say the least. This story involves too many same-sounding names so keep up.

The first time Gyanendra was declared King of…

Celeb Poker Babes Betting on Body Language

July 19 2006
By: MaxCohen

For every Shannon Elizabeth or Mena Suvari seated at the poker table, there are four guys who can hardly focus, fantasizing about sex. Celebrity poker babes gain an edge without even trying because all men can think about is how to get inside their pants.

Without even trying? How much of it is innocent, poker babes distracting opponents just by being their pretty hot selves? And how much of it is deliberate, celebrity chicks actually using sexual attraction to spoil male opponents’ concentration?

Shannon Elizabeth openly admits to using her sensual looks to disconcert the opposite sex in poker. She recently told Blender magazine: “A lot of men get lost in their cards if you introduce a decent distraction.”

You’d think an admission like would make it harder for Shannon to employ this kind of poker strategy. On the other hand, us men are that stupid over women. We know when poker babes are being a tease but let them anyway, pining for a different sort of showdown, after the poker game.

Mena Suvari confirms using the same poker technique as early as when she started learning Texas Hold’em in New Orleans poker casinos. Mena says she uses her petite good looks not only to disorient the guys but to make them think she’s a weak player.

Toby Leah Bochan, who authored The Badass Girl’s Guide to Poker: All You Need to Beat the Boys, told Bodog: “You need to be willing to use whatever advantages you have as a woman. Even if you have to appear weak to win, that makes you a…'’

Surgeons Hot, Housewives Not. Wanna Bet?

The Emmy Revampirella (part 1 of 2)

The Primetime Emmy Awards is not exactly the most awaited on showbiz awards who’s who but this year it’s making noise for who isn’t in the running. Desperate Housewives and Lost, which won top Emmys last year, were snobbed this year. Come on now: it’s something to talk about. Go order pizza.

For the 2006 Emmy Awards, voting rules were modified in the hopes of ‘including’ fringier shows and winning their fans over. The result is a roster of strange nominations that are well-intended at best, and stinkier than WSOP poker cheating at worst.

Drama Emmys

Grey’s Anatomy and 24 are hot, having garnered 2006’s most number of Emmy noms (12 and 11, respectively) for a TV series. Both are in the race for Outstanding Drama, although it appears dead patients are favored over dead presidents. Bodog TV betting props list Grey’s Anatomy as the odds-on favorite, with a 1/1 shot to win; followed by House at 2/1.

Glaringly absent is Lost, 2005’s Outstanding Drama yet without a single nom this year. 24 is a longshot at 7/2 and The Sopranos at 8/1 while four-time winner The West Wing is the longest shot at 12/5. Sopranos fans are in disbelief that…

Poker’s Other Pros: The Celebrity Players

July 3 2006
By: mullen
The ongoing debate is all about whether another neophyte online poker lucky qualifier will steal the World Series of Poker crown, or rather bracelet, from the poker pros.

In fact no one’s afraid of the pros anymore. Because we all know they’re beat-able. Who gives a crap about them being experienced and having strategies and all. With all their books and videos flooding the stores today, we already know their secrets. We’ve read their minds and studied their moves.

So yeah, they’re no longer that imposing on the tables. But there’s another group of poker players we seem to be taking out of the equation: Ben Affleck- Celebrity Pokerthe celebrity poker players. By celebrity we mean they may come from film, music, TV or sports.

We somehow view these celebrity players as added attractions, or simply sprinkling glitter to the event. Sure they’re not winning the titles, but the serious celebrity poker players do earn respect from the poker community, finishing in the money, and frequenting the tournament circuit.

A few even made headlines like Jennifer Tilly when when she became the first Hollywood star to take home a WSOP gold bracelet in the Ladies’ No Limit Hold’em event. She then broke records again by winning the invitational 2005 WPT Ladies night. Her WPT win made her the first woman to win both the major WPT and WSOP women’s events.

Pretty boy Ben Affleck, and once rumored having gambling problems, did well in 2004 when he won the California State Poker Championship.

James Woods and Shannon Elizabeth aren’t doin’ bad either as spokespersons for online poker sites, Hollywood Poker and Bodog Poker, respectively.

And every day, more and more stars are joining the party. Partly maybe because of…

Casino Gambling Rocks Their World

June 9 2006
By: MaxCohen

What do gamblers do when an earthquake hits the casino?

In quake-prone Southern California, they continue gambling anyway.

After all, the epilepsy-triggering lights, blinding colors, deafening noise, and reeling slot machines inside casinos make it seem like casino gamblers are the most prepared group of people to face earthquakes. Or perhaps an alien invasion.

Besides, for anyone gambling in Greater Los Angeles where celebrity poker players are a familiar sight, how can anything still come as a shock? Or an aftershock?

At 15:45 on Thursday, June 8th, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake hit Cabazon in Riverside County from 11 miles below the Earth’s crust. Its epicenter was less than a mile south of Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, 27 storeys high and the tallest building in the county.

While earthquakes at a 2.5 magnitude or less are not usually felt, a 3.8-scale quake is often felt and may cause minor damage up to a 5.4 scale.

Big crappin’ deal. Gamblers at the new $250 million Indian casino hotel couldn’t give a flying card. Casino bettors continued to place their bets at the slot machines and table games, unfazed by the piddling tremor.

“Due to its engineering and design, the casino is the safest place in the county,” said Waltona Manion, public information officer for the Morongo Band of…
