Hey, that NBA team from Oklahoma City has a name

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgTHUNDER. Yes, that is actually their name.

And although that, for some reason, reminds me of Hulk Hogan riding a boat, that will be the moniker Oklahoma City will go by in the coming 2008-09 NBA basketball season since there’s no way in hell those guys from Seattle will let Oklahoma use ‘’SuperSonics'’ after stealing one of the league’s storied franchises away from them.

And since a thunder can be heard miles away, warning New Orleans people that they might have to move to Oklahoma again (sorry… I couldn’t resist…) it was only fitting that everybody already knew Sooners country will be represented by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA even before an official announcement came.

Oklahoma Thunder‘’It’s hard to keep a secret,'’ team chairman Clay Bennett said after stepping to a podium on the ground floor of the downtown office building where the team is based.

In what has become the worst kept secret in the NBA this coming season, the team’s logo and colors also leaked out over the weekend prior to the official announcement. Hell, they even had Thunder merchandise already for crying out loud to preempt Bennett.

‘’I thought it was great fun. Maybe I have a warped sense of things,'’ Bennett said.

‘’There’s just all kinds of good thunder images and…'’

Tatum Bell, after Lions cut him, stole from Rudi Johnson

By: J.J. Jack

Jeez… Bell could’ve left the Lions with dignity. But NO, he had to do something so stupid, I’d be surprised if a team gives him another shot.

The 2008-09 NFL football season is here and we now have the first stupid stunt you’ll normally get from the ever controversial Terrell Owens. This time it was Tatum Bell, and after Rudi Johnson virtually stole his RB roster spot with the Detroit Lions, Bell felt it was only fitting for him to steal the guy’s bag. Hee hee…

You read it, security cameras from the Detroit Lions locker room show that Tatum Bell, the guy who just had his ass cut by the Lions from their roster to make way for Rudi Johnson, took the two Gucci bags Johnson received as a Pro Bowl gift back when he was playing for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Rudi Johnson‘’Ricky showed me the tape Tuesday afternoon,'’ Rudi Johnson said. ‘’What makes this crazy is that I’ve talked to him after games, and I talked to him a couple hours prior to this. I guess it was before he found out he was going to be released.'’

Rudi Johnson said a woman returned the bags allegedly taken by Tatum Bell. Unfortunately, the contents were gone. ‘’I got the bags back, empty,'’ Johnson said. ‘’So he’s got a bunch of my underclothes. What he’s going to do with that, I don’t know. He’s got some socks and boxers.'’

Bell of course, denies that he stole Johnson’s…

Interesting Quarterfinals Face-Off between Andy Roddick and Novak Djokovic in the 2008 U.S. Open

By: Syndicate

Why? Read on.

In case you didn’t notice, we are closing in on the end of the tennis season as the 2008 United States Open Tennis Championships, the last Grand Slam of the tennis calendar year, is about to conclude in style with some interesting quarterfinal match-ups this Thursday.

And perhaps none is as intriguing as this face-off between Andy Roddick and Novak Djokovic. And since we are not really huge tennis fans, branding a match not involving the hot and sexy Maria Sharapova ‘’intriguing'’ should be exactly that. Thanks to Roddick, we’re probably watch this one just to see if Djokovic will make Roddick eat his words.

Oh yeah, Andy Roddick sure Andy Roddickwas talking, A LOT. It has been well documented that Djokovic has his fair share of injuries and with Roddick facing the Serbian for the right to advance to the semifinals, it was not surprising that the American actually addressed his opponent’s injuries, with a hint of sarcasm.

Andy Roddick was talking to the media when a reporter blurted out something about Novak Djokovic, explaining that the Serbian had complained of an injured right ankle. Roddick cut him off, (it is HIS press conference after all…) leading to this somewhat funny exchange between the two.

Roddick: Isn’t it both of them? And a back and a…

Chad Johnson is ready to play for the Cincinnati Bengals

By: J.J. Jack

Probably has something to do with the way he legally changed his name to Chad Ocho Cinco.

But of course, since this is about the deranged Chad Johnson, we can’t really know what the fuck goes on in that mind of is. One thing’s for sure though, when he says he’s ready for the 2008-09 NFL football season, he is. And since he is one of the game’s top wide receivers, THAT is more then enough reason to worry, especially if you’re playing against the guy on opening day.

‘’Super extra focused'’ were the words Chad Johnson blurted out when talking to the media, asking him where he’s at after the drama that transpired between him and the Bengals in the offseason.

It was like only yesterday Chad Johnsonwhen Johnson wanted to be traded away from the Cincinnati Bengals. With merely days before the season officially begins, no.85 and the Bengals are like bread and butter once again.

The Cincinnati Bengals are scheduled to play one of the top defensive teams in football, the Baltimore Ravens, to begin the season. And since the Ravens defense can gut you like a fish if you’re not careful, the Bengals should be happy to know that Ocho Cinco will be there to possibly spread out that D a little bit.

BUT WAIT! Aside from the displeasure Chad Johnson had towards…

Rafael Nadal advances to the 2008 U.S. Open quarters

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgBARELY.

Hee hee… Yes people, after Rafael Nadal started the 2008 United States Open Tennis Championships with the dominance you’ll only get from a player ranked no.1 in the world, he got his first scare of the tournament when a virtual unknown named Sam Querrey almost shocked the world.

In a match that forced Rafael Nadal to shift to another gear to beat the unseeded Sam Querrey 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-3, Nadal found himself matching his best result at the very tournament that simply hates his guts.

Playing for the sixth year at Flushing Meadows hoping for a better result this time, Rafael NadalNadal rallied to beat Sam Querrey to reach the quarterfinals against Mardy Fish. And it wasn’t easy too.

Nadal was down 6-5 in the third set and was on the brink of losing two straight sets to the unseeded Sam Querrey. Thankfully, Nadal was able to find the form that enabled him to beat then world no.1 Roger Federer at this year’s French Open and Wimbledon.

That form also brought Nadal the Olympic gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as the world no.1 ranking he’s relishing as of the moment.

‘’In every tournament you have one bad day, that’s the normal thing,'’ Rafael Nadal…

2008 Redeem Team vs 1992 Dream Team Part 2

By: J.J. Jack

Welcome back, and yes, we’re still trying to determine which team is better, the Dream Team or the Redeem Team?

And last time we did this, we glorified the U.S. Redeem Team after capturing gold in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Now that THAT part is over, it’s time to determine which team is better.

We will break down each position and determine who has the better player playing that spot between the Dream and Redeem. And although these two teams have 16 years between them, both clubs still has the most popular names to ever play this game that we love so much.

To start it off with the point guard 1992 U.S. Olympic Dream Teamspot, Magic Johnson of the 1992 Dream Team goes up against Jason Kidd of the Redeem Team. Both were the elder statesman in the group when they played for the U.S. basketball team. Magic was 33 and has not played a game for more than a year while Kidd is a 35-year-old who has already won the gold medal in Sydney back in 2000.

Magic Johnson will definitely create a match-up problem against Jason Kidd with his size and long wingspan. Hell, Magic played at power forward during that short stint with the Los Angeles Lakers in his last comeback. As soon as he decides to post Kidd up, this match-up is over.

The shooting guard position should prove to be…

2008 Redeem Team vs 1992 Dream Team Part 1

By: J.J. Jack

It was only a matter of time before we came up with this one.

With the latest rendition of the U.S. basketball team, now dubbed as the ‘’Redeem Team'’, ending up with the gold at the recently concluded 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the United States has returned at the top of the basketball world, justifying the amount of money these Americans actually spend on their own talent.

The ‘’U.S. Redeem Team‘’, the USA Team made up of NBA Superstars, had a handful against team Spain in their gold medal match up. USA won 118-107 with help coming from Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James from the Cleveland Cavaliers and Dywane Wade of the Miami Heat.

Now, many experts want LeBron James and Kobe Bryantsome answers on who is the better team between the 1992 U.S. Dream Team and the 2008 Redeem Team. If they play, who will win and what are the possible match-ups?

Redeem Team averaged 26 point-game winning margin against their opponents except in the gold medal game, which they only had an 11-point cushion. This team is comprised of young superstars such as Chris Paul and Dwight Howard to join Kobe Bryant, James and Wade.

Meanwhile, the Dream Team composed of NBA Hall-of-Famers Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Magic Johnson JUST to name a few. Those guys won by an average mark of…

Roger Federer is dominating the 2008 U.S. Open

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYou read it, and after winning in straight sets for three straight rounds into the tournament, ‘’dominant'’ could be an understatement.

Try God-like. And Federer, after three rounds into the 2008 United States Open Tennis Championships, was exactly that. What has been he eating for him to have this kind of dominance in the last Grand Slam of the year? Nothing special really, it just so happens that he ain’t No.1 no more and he wants to get the top spot back BAD, whatever it takes.

After staying on top of the tennis food chain for the past few years, Roger Federer relinquished the No.1 spot to rival Rafael Nadal after the latter beat him in the last two Grand Slam tournaments of the season, that being in the French Open at Roland Garros where Nadal normally dominates anyway and the other in England where the annual Wimbledon Championships are held.

Roger FedererIt was only understandable that Rafael Nadal gets all the attention in the U.S. Open this year since he is now the man to beat in tennis. And while Nadal enjoys all the attention being the new world No.1, Federer opts to just continue what he does best and that’s beating everybody else.

Federer has yet to drop a single set after three rounds into the 2008 U.S. Open, and while the media continually chooses to ignore the new world No.2, choosing to put all their efforts in watching every single move Nadal makes these days, Federer seems determined in grabbing all that attention back.

Federer is looking to remind everybody that he is still…

John Lynch loved the way he was cut by the Patriots

By: J.J. Jack

HUH?!?

My sentiments exactly. And if you don’t have a clue who John Lynch is, he is the nine-time Pro Bowl safety who was coming to the 2008-09 NFL football season looking to salvage what’s left of his career after joining the Patriots. But when those guys decided they no longer need an old fart like him still trying to play safety, he was cut from the roster.

You read it, John Lynch was cut by the New England Patriots after he was signed by the team just a couple of weeks ago. And just when you thought you had a steal of a deal when you signed him in your fantasy teams from the free agency pool, learning about this news will probably make you twitch.

The New England Patriots are not John Lynchruling him out entirely. After all, those guys have a knack for signing veterans and often released them, only to sign them again when needed. Lynch, now 36 years old, could fall into that classification.

‘’It goes without saying but John is an all-time great safety, one of the league’s classiest professionals and his elite play speaks for itself,'’ Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said. ‘’As has been the case in other situations, I would not rule anything out down the road.'’

Normally, any NFL veteran, especially multi-time Pro Bowlers like…

Will Ferrari line up behind Felipe Massa for the 2008 F1 World Championship and leave Kimi Raikkonen alone?

By: Syndicate

They could, because at this point of the season, Massa is showing Ferrari why his team should do just that.

Much to everybody’s surprise, Felipe Massa has overtaken his more popular Ferrari teammate, Kimi Raikkonen, in the race for the drivers championship this 2008 F1 season with only six more races to go.

After playing second fiddle to Michael Schumacher and then Kimi, Felipe Massa has come to his own this year with 64 championship points to Kimi’s 57. And although Lewis Hamilton is still in first place, leading the two Ferrari drivers with 70, Massa definitely has a better shot of winning this year’s title than Kimi, despite the fact that Kimi still is THE defending champ.

That’s probably why Felipe Massathe Ferrari team should start lining up behind Massa now or they could see their run for the drivers title end up with nothing.

We all saw that last season when McLaren - Mercedes let Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso settle for themselves who’s going to take home the title. It backfired when Kimi came out of nowhere to steal the drivers championship away from the two competing McLaren stars.

It’s ironic that Kimi Raikkonen finds himself in the same position and it’ll be up to him if he wants to cooperate with Massa or just go all out and try to compete with his teammate for…
