F1 Star Kimi Raikkonen to compete in NASCAR

By:

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYou read that right.

As the new 2011 F1 season unravels, former Formula One champion Kimi Raikkonen is setting his sights on NASCAR, becoming the latest in a string of former F1 drivers to compete there as he plans to drive three-to-five Camping World Truck Series events this year for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

The 31-year-old Kimi Raikkonen, who won the F1 title in 2007 and currently drives in the World Rally Championship, will make his debut on May 20 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

In the nine years Raikkonen spent on the F1 circuit, he recorded 18 wins, 62 podium finishes and was the 2007 champion. Raikkonen left F1 after the 2009 season and has been competing in the World Rally Car Championship since.

”I am really excited to have the opportunity to start my venture into NASCAR with Kyle Busch Motorsports,” Raikkonen said in a team release. ”Kyle is one of the best in NASCAR, and being able to draw on his knowledge will be a valuable asset as I make my transition to a new form of racing. He has put together an experienced team that builds fast race tracks. I look forward to being a part of a team that has proven to be a winner on and off the race track.”

”He’s got the talent to race,” team owner Kyle Busch said at…

Danica Patrick will voice a character in the game Blur, even though she doesn’t know shit about video games

By:

It seems like the racing public can’t get enough of Danica Patrick these days.

After hinting at a move to Formula One and then deciding against it before eventually moving on from the IndyCar series to NASCAR in the 2010 NASCAR season, Danica Patrick isn’t done from engaging herself to territories that are somewhat new to her.

You see, it was just a few days ago when Danica Patrick made yet another experimenting of her own, this time though, she is trying her hand at video games. Patrick will voice a video game character in the racing game ”Blur,” which Activision is slated to release on May 25.

According to the game’s developers, ”Blur” is part ”The Fast and The Furious” and part ”Speed Racer” and will let players race more than 50 licensed cars that will range from the road cars like the Ford Focus to the more exotic ones like the Lotus Exige Cup 260.

It really looks like a solid racing game on paper but unfortunately for the GoDaddy.com girl, Patrick doesn’t know squat about racing in video games.

When asked what ”Blur” is all about, Patrick said, ”It’s not just cars against cars. It’s cars against cars with the ability to pick up these things called power-ups. They are all kinds of different things, you can protect yourself or fix your car, shoot at other cars, you can blow them up or hit the boost.”

Apparently, the idea of power-ups are somewhat new to the female…

2010 NASCAR Season kicks off with the Daytona 500

By:

seth-edward-oneal.jpgSince football season is over, it’s that time of the year when we watch cars go around in circles again.

And in case you didn’t get that, the 2010 NASCAR season is kicking off on Valentine’s Day weekend with the Daytona 500. For all ya’ll who didn’t know, they say the Daytona 500 is NASCAR’s equivalent to the Super Bowl. I still have no idea why they have this race to kick off their season though.

Still, NASCAR will have the annual Daytona 500 at the Daytona International Speedway to generate some hype for the whole year. And since this sport really doesn’t have anything else to offer other than cars going around in circles for three freaking hours, they need all the hype they can get.

So with the 52nd Daytona 500 kicking off the brand new season, what’s in store for NASCAR racing fans this year? Well, for one, NASCAR has made headlines over the last couple of weeks following several rules changes that will take place this season. These changes will encourage more aggressive driving from drivers AND more importantly, to captivate fans.

The recent changes have been made due to the continual poor ratings that…

Can Danica Patrick win Daytona 500 on Valentine’s Day?

By:

At least this chick won’t give her guy a hard time on where to take her on Valentine’s Day.

Because Danica Patrick will be making her NASCAR debut this weekend at the Daytona International Speedway for Daytona 500. Fresh off a pretty impressive sixth-place finish last week on the same track in an ARCA race, Patrick decided it’s time to make the move to NASCAR and what better to do it than on NASCAR’s grandest stage, Daytona.

”Racing in the Nationwide Series race was my goal during this entire two-month preparation process, but we wanted to make sure it was the right thing to do,” Danica Patrick said in a statement. ”The ARCA race was a blast, and I’m not ready for my first Daytona Speedweeks to end just yet. I want more racing.”

Patrick was originally scheduled to debut on Feb. 20 at the Nationwide race in California, but that’s been bumped up to the 2010 NASCAR season opener at Daytona because she felt so comfortable in the ARCA race. She started 12th in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 and finished sixth, including a late rally from 23rd position all the way to the front pack in just under 20 laps.

Crew chief Tony Eury Jr., who initially was against Patrick beginning her limited Nationwide schedule at Daytona, didn’t hesitate to give a yes vote after the ARCA event.

Patrick has been hesitant to make her debut at Daytona because…

Will the sexy Danica Patrick move to F1?

By:

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYou can just imagine how high will the TV ratings be once Patrick makes the move.

In case you didn’t know, there are some teams looking to make their debut in Formula One once the 2009 F1 season is over. One of which is the new USF1 team looking to make a splash next season.

Of course, since USF1 is American owned, it’s understandable for those guys to go look for American drivers to race for them. And ever since the team made their intentions to compete in Formula One public, it sparked some speculation that they’ll sign the popular and sexy Indy race car driver Danica Patrick as one of their two pilots.

With Patrick’s contract with Andretti Green Racing expiring at the end of the year, the timing is perfect for her to make the move. The question is, will she make one?

danica_patrickUnfortunately for F1 fans looking forward for this one, Danica Patrick already poured cold water over the ”very hot” rumors like a pissed little bitch, leaving us hanging, curled up in a corner with a pulsating crotch.

”I’d say it’s probably not F1,” Danica Patrick said on which series she may race in next season.

”I’ve had opportunities to take it a step further with Formula 1, and I don’t want to lead anyone down a path. It’s not in my heart to go there. I’ve explored Europe before.”

”I particularly like to be here and I like my family…

NASCAR drivers Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson won’t be exchanging Christmas cards anytime soon

By:

You just know they hate each other’s guts now.

The feud between Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson is starting to heat up this 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup season as both drivers got into some late-race bumping at Chicagoland Speedway that left each of them wondering if one has a problem with the other.

Hell, both might still be upset when the Sprint Cup series picks up July 26 at Indianapolis. Jimmie Johnson had lost his lead to Denny Hamlin late in the race and fell back into three-wide racing with Kurt Busch and Jeff Gordon. Gordon appeared to get under Johnson, and the three-time defending Cup champion’s No.48 Chevrolet got loose and made contact with Busch.

Jimmie Johnson and Kurt BuschAngry at the contact, former champion Kurt Busch appeared to deliberately turn into Johnson. Their cars connected, causing a spark of excitement in a 400-mile race that Mark Martin won in mostly dominating fashion.

”The No. 2 (Busch) and I touched and he bodyslammed me after that,” Johnson said.

Busch and Johnson also spun together and tangled at Sonoma, perhaps one reason for Busch’s ill feelings. Johnson slid into Busch and later apologized. Another reason could be while Johnson salvaged an eighth-place finish after seemingly having the race won until Hamlin caused him to lose control, Busch fell all the way to 17th.

”It looked like it was pretty crazy up there, but…”

The 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series continues with the Lifelock 400 at the Michigan International Speedway

By:

It’s this Sunday too.

Race 15 of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be held this weekend June 14th at the Michigan International Speedway, for the LifeLock 400.

The Michigan International Speedway is a two-mile intermediate D-Shaped track, and is often referred to as one of NASCAR’s many ”cookie-cutter” tracks. This D- shaped oval will be the home for the finest drivers in the world this Sunday and you can bet that each of these guys will be gunning for the win.

First off is Tony Stewart, who is coming his first win as an owner-driver. He has literally smoked the competition in recent weeks with 2043 total points. With Hendrick Motorsports equipment below him, Stewart is leading the points and entering his favorite time of the year, summer. Summer is Stewart’s season, and is when things typically get on a role for the two-time champion.

Jeff GordonThis year, however, Stewart has hit his stride already, and could easily knock off a few wins between now and September, when the Chase starts. Stewart’s record is one win, nine top fives, 13 top 10s, and an average finish of 12.5 at MIS. In NASCAR’s Loop Data, Stewart has an Average Running Position of 14.6 (10th-best), a Driver Rating of 94.5 (eighth-best), 52 Fastest Laps Run (11th-most), 570 Green Flag Passes (seventh-most), an Average Green Flag Speed of 173.455 MPH (sixth-fastest), and 1,024 Laps in the Top 15 (66.7 percent, seventh-most).

He is closely followed by Jeff Gordon at second with 1972 total driver points. Gordon, who will drive a specially painted No.24 DuPont/National Guard Chevrolet this weekend, has ”only” two wins at MIS. But he has run well at the…

2009 Southern 500 has NASCAR screaming GoDaddy!

By:

For the first time ever, popular website GoDaddy.com will be presenting us something other than a half-naked bombshell.

The 2009 NASCAR Southern 500 is the annual spring NASCAR Sprint Cup race held at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina, USA, that runs on May 9. This will be the 11th race on the Sprint Cup Circuit and for the first time ever, GoDaddy.com is presenting the event.

How’s that to create some hype around the usually boring 2009 NASCAR season eh? The 2009 Southern 500 is the only Sprint Cup race the Darlington Raceway will have all year.

Candice MichelleThankfully, the International Speedway Corp., Darlington’s parent company, has one more title sponsorship to sell for its August race at Michigan.

As far as GoDaddy.com is concerned, how in the hell did they ended up with things NASCAR?

The Internet domain name provider has sponsorships with Hendrick Motorsports and JR Motorsports of Dale Earnhardt Jr., as well as a handful of track deals. The site is also well-known for its creative and edgy commercials so giving them a go at NASCAR was inevitable considering the fact that the sport really needs an awesome…

2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series resumes in Bristol

By:

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThis week, NASCAR travels to the portion of Tennessee known as Thunder Valley.

It’s time once again for the semi annual demolition derby at the Bristol Motor Speedway where the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series resumes this Sunday for the Food City 500.

Twice a year, NASCAR lines up 43 cars on this half mile, high banked, track and hopes for the best. In most cases the best scenario involves over time for the team’s fabricators at the race shops who will be spending next week repairing wrecked cars.

Here’s the breakdown for Dale Earnhardt Jr.Sunday’s Food City 500: The Bristol Motor Speedway is a 0.533 mile concrete oval with 30 degree banking in the turns. The race is 500 laps.

The first NASCAR Sprint Cup race was held at the speedway in 1961. The race was won by Jack Smith with some driver relief help from Johnny Allen. There has been 96 Sprint Cup races there since that time. The speedway’s asphalt surface was changed to the now famous concrete oval in 1992.

The speedway has a seating capacity of 160,000 and is unique because the grandstand circles the entire oval track. It also has 197 sky boxes. The speedway stands have been sold out well in advance for 53 consecutive races. However this year, with the nation’s economy…

Is Jeff Gordon still the man in NASCAR in 2009?

By:

It looks like no one is counting Jeff Gordon out just yet.

2008 was probably the worst season Jeff Gordon had in his career, which is saying something considering he finished in the top 5 nearly 40 percent of the time. Again, he failed to win for the first time in 15 seasons, and that’s really all anyone cares about when it comes to the most dominant driver of his era.

But this year is a different story and the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series promises to be better. Gordon may not win five or six races, but he will win. In fact, if he hopes to have any shot at that elusive fifth title, he’ll have to win.

Gordon enters 2009 sixth all-time in victories, Jeff Gordonwith 81. He needs just four to claim sole possession of third place on that list. He will lead his 20,000th lap this year. And some feel NASCAR’s testing reduction stands only to benefit Gordon’s established No.24 team.

Gordon remains supremely confident in crew chief Steve Letarte, who shouldered much criticism throughout Gordon’s winless season.

Gordon’s No.24 team is using 2008 as the motivation to prevent a second straight winless season in 2009. Gordon went without a victory for the first time since his rookie season in 1993, just one year removed from winning six times. He also had eight fewer top-five finishes and 11 fewer top-10s than in…
