The 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series continues with the Lifelock 400 at the Michigan International Speedway

By: Syndicate

It’s this Sunday too.

Race 15 of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be held this weekend June 14th at the Michigan International Speedway, for the LifeLock 400.

The Michigan International Speedway is a two-mile intermediate D-Shaped track, and is often referred to as one of NASCAR’s many ‘’cookie-cutter'’ tracks. This D- shaped oval will be the home for the finest drivers in the world this Sunday and you can bet that each of these guys will be gunning for the win.

First off is Tony Stewart, who is coming his first win as an owner-driver. He has literally smoked the competition in recent weeks with 2043 total points. With Hendrick Motorsports equipment below him, Stewart is leading the points and entering his favorite time of the year, summer. Summer is Stewart’s season, and is when things typically get on a role for the two-time champion.

Jeff GordonThis year, however, Stewart has hit his stride already, and could easily knock off a few wins between now and September, when the Chase starts. Stewart’s record is one win, nine top fives, 13 top 10s, and an average finish of 12.5 at MIS. In NASCAR’s Loop Data, Stewart has an Average Running Position of 14.6 (10th-best), a Driver Rating of 94.5 (eighth-best), 52 Fastest Laps Run (11th-most), 570 Green Flag Passes (seventh-most), an Average Green Flag Speed of 173.455 MPH (sixth-fastest), and 1,024 Laps in the Top 15 (66.7 percent, seventh-most).

He is closely followed by Jeff Gordon at second with 1972 total driver points. Gordon, who will drive a specially painted No.24 DuPont/National Guard Chevrolet this weekend, has ‘’only'’ two wins at MIS. But he has run well at the…

2009 Southern 500 has NASCAR screaming GoDaddy!

By: J.J. Jack

For the first time ever, popular website GoDaddy.com will be presenting us something other than a half-naked bombshell.

The 2009 NASCAR Southern 500 is the annual spring NASCAR Sprint Cup race held at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina, USA, that runs on May 9. This will be the 11th race on the Sprint Cup Circuit and for the first time ever, GoDaddy.com is presenting the event.

How’s that to create some hype around the usually boring 2009 NASCAR season eh? The 2009 Southern 500 is the only Sprint Cup race the Darlington Raceway will have all year.

Candice MichelleThankfully, the International Speedway Corp., Darlington’s parent company, has one more title sponsorship to sell for its August race at Michigan.

As far as GoDaddy.com is concerned, how in the hell did they ended up with things NASCAR?

The Internet domain name provider has sponsorships with Hendrick Motorsports and JR Motorsports of Dale Earnhardt Jr., as well as a handful of track deals. The site is also well-known for its creative and edgy commercials so giving them a go at NASCAR was inevitable considering the fact that the sport really needs an awesome…

2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series resumes in Bristol

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThis week, NASCAR travels to the portion of Tennessee known as Thunder Valley.

It’s time once again for the semi annual demolition derby at the Bristol Motor Speedway where the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series resumes this Sunday for the Food City 500.

Twice a year, NASCAR lines up 43 cars on this half mile, high banked, track and hopes for the best. In most cases the best scenario involves over time for the team’s fabricators at the race shops who will be spending next week repairing wrecked cars.

Here’s the breakdown for Dale Earnhardt Jr.Sunday’s Food City 500: The Bristol Motor Speedway is a 0.533 mile concrete oval with 30 degree banking in the turns. The race is 500 laps.

The first NASCAR Sprint Cup race was held at the speedway in 1961. The race was won by Jack Smith with some driver relief help from Johnny Allen. There has been 96 Sprint Cup races there since that time. The speedway’s asphalt surface was changed to the now famous concrete oval in 1992.

The speedway has a seating capacity of 160,000 and is unique because the grandstand circles the entire oval track. It also has 197 sky boxes. The speedway stands have been sold out well in advance for 53 consecutive races. However this year, with the nation’s economy…

Is Jeff Gordon still the man in NASCAR in 2009?

By: J.J. Jack

It looks like no one is counting Jeff Gordon out just yet.

2008 was probably the worst season Jeff Gordon had in his career, which is saying something considering he finished in the top 5 nearly 40 percent of the time. Again, he failed to win for the first time in 15 seasons, and that’s really all anyone cares about when it comes to the most dominant driver of his era.

But this year is a different story and the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series promises to be better. Gordon may not win five or six races, but he will win. In fact, if he hopes to have any shot at that elusive fifth title, he’ll have to win.

Gordon enters 2009 sixth all-time in victories, Jeff Gordonwith 81. He needs just four to claim sole possession of third place on that list. He will lead his 20,000th lap this year. And some feel NASCAR’s testing reduction stands only to benefit Gordon’s established No.24 team.

Gordon remains supremely confident in crew chief Steve Letarte, who shouldered much criticism throughout Gordon’s winless season.

Gordon’s No.24 team is using 2008 as the motivation to prevent a second straight winless season in 2009. Gordon went without a victory for the first time since his rookie season in 1993, just one year removed from winning six times. He also had eight fewer top-five finishes and 11 fewer top-10s than in…

Who will win the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Shelby 427 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this Sunday?

By: Syndicate

At least for one Sunday afternoon, Las Vegas won’t be about gambling.

Then again, we all know sports gamblers will still be betting on this race anyway. And since it’s still a free-for-all in these early stages of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, betting on these races and cashing in with an underdog should still be a breeze.

The 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Shelby 427 this Sunday is one of the most exciting stops on the NASCAR schedule since it’s just a few miles north of The Strip and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway sits like a diamond in the desert.

Fifty-one teams have filed entries for this year’s event, that’s the second-most Shelby 427entries ever for a Sprint Cup race at the Las Vegas Motor Spedway. The most entries happened during the 2007 season, when a whopping 53 entires were filed.

Every former Cup winner at Las Vegas entered, including 2002 race winner Sterling Marlin, who did not attempt to qualify last year. Six Sprint Cup Series champions also are in the field.

This race has a history of multiple winners, as Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Jeff Burton have repeated as champions in Las Vegas. Johnson won three consecutive races (2005-07), while Kenseth (2003-04) and Burton (1999-2000)…

Matt Kenseth wins shortened 51st Daytona 500

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgHe didn’t care if there were 48 laps left to race too.

Matt Kenseth won the 51st Daytona 500 on Sunday in a race that was called early due to rain. The race was called after 152 laps with 48 laps remaining.

Kyle Busch had led most of the day before being taken out by Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a multi-car crash late in the race. Dubbed as ‘’The Great American Race,'’ the Daytona 500 is NASCAR’s premiere event scheduled right at the beginning of the NASCAR season.

Matt Kenseth, the quiet, unassuming former NASCAR champion who had never been in contention at the Daytona 500, cried as he celebrated the biggest victory of his career. It was an unexpected show of emotion for one of NASCAR’s most underappreciated stars.

Matt KensethElliott Sadler prayed for the sky to open up when he was out front, but he was answered a tick too late. Kenseth used a huge push from Kevin Harvick to slide past Sadler 54 laps from the finish, and mere seconds before Aric Almirola spun to bring out a caution.

That’s when the rain began, and after two caution laps, NASCAR sent the drivers to pit road to wait out the storm. Most drivers climbed from their cars to await NASCAR’s decision, but Kenseth stayed put through the delay.

The race was called after 152 of 200 laps. It was just the fourth rain-shortened…

NASCAR returns with the 2009 Budweiser Shootout at the Daytona International Speedway this Saturday

By: Syndicate

I guess they need some sort of a soft opening before officially kicking off the season.

The 2009 Budweiser Shootout at Daytona will probably aim to set us all up for the grand opening of the new season in NASCAR, which will be the 2009 Daytona 500 on February 15. But since we are still a couple of weeks away from that, I guess this big race this weekend would do.

You read it, NASCAR returns with the 2009 Budweiser Shootout this Saturday at the Daytona International Speedway. This year, NASCAR will have a new format that puts more emphasis on the series’ four manufacturers and the same star-power appeal that has become a season-opening tradition for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and its fans.

2009 Budweiser ShootoutThe 31st annual season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway will be held this Saturday night with a field of 24 cars representing the top teams from Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford and Toyota that will showcase the close competition in NASCAR’s premier series.

That lineup will consist of the top six teams from each manufacturer, based on the final 2008 car owner points.

For the Chevrolets you have; No.48 Jimmie Johnson, No.29 Kevin Harvick, No.07 Casey Mears, No.31 Jeff Burton, No.24 Jeff Gordon, and No.88 Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The Dodge camp will bring; No.9 Kasey Kahne, No.12 David…

Jimmie Johnson to win the 2008 NASCAR Chase for the Cup this Sunday at the Ford 400 Miami Speedway

By: Syndicate

And with the 141-point lead this guy has, I’ll be REALLY surprised if he doesn’t have the title at the end of the weekend.

A commanding 141-point lead, that’s what Jimmie Johnson is enjoying coming to the grand finale of the 2008 NASCAR Chase for the Cup this Sunday at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

With that big of a lead, Jimmie Johnson only needs to finish 36th or better to win his third straight NASCAR title. Sure, it ain’t over ’til it’s over but the fact of the matter is, MATHEMATICALLY speaking, it already is.

The only driver probably still in contention Jimmie Johnsonfor the title is Carl Edwards. However, even if Edwards were to win and lead the most laps on Sunday, Edwards will still need Johnson to take himself out of the race to engineer a shocker.

The ten-race ‘’Chase to the Championship'’ is all about consistency, and Jimmie Johnson, once again, showed that no one is better. In the nine races leading up to this weekend’s race, Johnson has three wins, six top 5’s, and eight top 10’s for an average finish of 4.7. That is how you seal the deal people. While Carl Edwards has been impressive as well, he would have had to be nearly perfect to take the hardware away from Johnson.

Johnson will now become only the second driver to win three…

Jimmie Johnson on the verge of winning 2008 NASCAR Nextel Cup with 141-point lead over Carl Edwards

By: Syndicate

Yes, the championship is probably determined already.

The 2008 NASCAR Chase for the Nextel Cup is probably over after Jimmie Johnson trounced the field at the Phoenix International Raceway to inch closer to his record-tying third straight NASCAR title.

You read it, Jimmie Johnson, now with 6561 championship points, is on his way for yet another world championship. With the commanding 141-point lead over Carl Edwards, Johnson needs only to finish 36th or better to win it all.

It seems all the changes Jimmie Johnson and his team made worked. Johnson Jimmie Johnsonled a race-high 217 of the 313 laps to stretch his lead over Carl Edwards in the standings from 106 to the commanding 141-point barrier.

‘’He’s doing something pretty special,'’ 2004 champion Kurt Busch said after finishing second. ‘’It’s just tough to beat.'’

Jimmie Johnson was coming into the Phoenix International Raceway on the verge of losing his grip of the title after a rather disappointing 15th place finish in Texas. Thankfully, he rebounded perfectly from…
