Did Troy Polamalu help the Pittsburgh Steelers cover the -5 spread against the San Diego Chargers last Sunday?
By: SyndicateIf you’re a gambling man, you’re probably asking yourself that a lot lately.
Just so you know, the Steelers and the Chargers were engaged in a weird finish in Week 11 of the 2008-09 NFL football season last Sunday. The 11-10 final score was the first game EVER in the history of the NFL to have a game end like the way it did. And although 11-10 sure was a strange final result in football, that’s not the thing that got sports gamblers concerned.
The Pittsburgh Steelers were coming into this game as -5 favorites to win over the visiting San Diego Chargers. And while the 11-10 final score means Pittsburgh won the game despite failing to cover the -5 spread, it turns out that the Steelers DID COVER if it wasn’t for the referees making yet another huge officiating error right then and there at Heinz Field.
On the final play of Pittsburgh’s 11-10 win over the San Diego Chargers, the league admitted that the officials made a mistake after taking away the touchdown scored by Steelers safety Troy Polamalu when he returned a fumble towards the Chargers’ endzone.
The Chargers, down 11-10 with 11 seconds remaining, had this one last desperation attempt to win the game when they started the play from their own 21-yard line. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers completed a short pass to LaDainian Tomlinson over the middle before Tomlinson tossed the ball backward to Chris Chambers.
When Chambers tried to make another backward lateral pass to another teammate…

The San Diego Chargers seem intent on upgrading their coaching staff some more as hours before Norv Turner was hired,
”This decision was so hard because Marty has been both a friend and valued coach of our team,” team president Dean Spanos said in a statement. ”But my first obligation is always to do what is in the best interest of our fans and the entire Charger organization. I must take whatever steps are necessary to deliver a Super Bowl trophy to San Diego.”

As for our Peyton Manning? He entered his senior season at Tennessee as the consensus top pick for the upcoming NFL Draft. Manning did little to disappoint, throwing for 3,819 yards and 37 touchdowns, compared to 11 interceptions. But he wasn’t the HOT STUFF so to speak then, it was Ryan Leaf, and yep, his overall No.1 pick status sure was in jeopardy.
With Marty Schottenheimer still on board for coaching the Chargers 2007 season, bookmakers are counting that MVP Running Back La Dainian Tomlinson and Quarter Back Philip Rivers (who will miss NFL’s PRO BOWL) will charge through the 2007 NFL football season and hoist the Vince Lombardy trophy on Feb. 3, 2008 in Glendale, Arizona
