Did Troy Polamalu help the Pittsburgh Steelers cover the -5 spread against the San Diego Chargers last Sunday?

By: Syndicate

If you’re a gambling man, you’re probably asking yourself that a lot lately.

Just so you know, the Steelers and the Chargers were engaged in a weird finish in Week 11 of the 2008-09 NFL football season last Sunday. The 11-10 final score was the first game EVER in the history of the NFL to have a game end like the way it did. And although 11-10 sure was a strange final result in football, that’s not the thing that got sports gamblers concerned.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were coming into this game as -5 favorites to win over the visiting San Diego Chargers. And while the 11-10 final score means Pittsburgh won the game despite failing to cover the -5 spread, it turns out that the Steelers DID COVER if it wasn’t for the referees making yet another huge officiating error right then and there at Heinz Field.

Troy PolamaluOn the final play of Pittsburgh’s 11-10 win over the San Diego Chargers, the league admitted that the officials made a mistake after taking away the touchdown scored by Steelers safety Troy Polamalu when he returned a fumble towards the Chargers’ endzone.

The Chargers, down 11-10 with 11 seconds remaining, had this one last desperation attempt to win the game when they started the play from their own 21-yard line. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers completed a short pass to LaDainian Tomlinson over the middle before Tomlinson tossed the ball backward to Chris Chambers.

When Chambers tried to make another backward lateral pass to another teammate…

Patriots welcome mad LaDainian Tomlinson to Foxboro

By: J.J. Jack

Yep, because the last time LT went up against the Patriots in a playoff game, he hated everything about New England.

THAT was last year when the New England Patriots celebrated a divisional playoff win over the San Diego Chargers in San Diego, doing the spasmodic dance made famous by Chargers defensive monster, Shawne Merriman. And mind you, the Patriots did it right smack in the middle of the Chargers’ team logo.

A year later, these two teams will be facing in a huge playoff game yet again, with bigger stakes this time. Yep, the Chargers and the Patriots will collide in the AFC championship game in the 2008 NFL football playoffs.

The winner moves on to Super Bowl XLII in LaDainian TomlinsonGlendale, Arizona. Cool huh? LaDainian Tomlinson probably waited a whole year for this, to play the New England Patriots in a playoff game, win it and celebrate on the Patriots’ team logo. LT will have a chance to do just that Sunday at Foxboro.

So how irritated did LaDainian Tomlinson got?

”I would never react in that way. I was very upset,” LaDainian Tomlinson said after losing to the Patriots in the divisional round last year. ”When you go to the middle of our field and start doing the dance Shawne Merriman is known for, that is disrespectful. They showed no class and maybe that comes from the head coach.”

He he… And to think that this was a year before…

San Diego Chargers, LaDainian Tomlinson, they’re BACK

By: J.J. Jack

After six weeks of football, those guys from San Diego, California are probably back before they take the week off.

Yeah, sure, many counted the San Diego Chargers out already with Marty Schottenheimer gone and a rather miserable start to the 2007-08 NFL football season.

But wait, what’s this? LaDainian Tomlinson just pounded the Oakland Raiders with FOUR touchdowns en route to a 28-14 win for his San Diego Chargers last Sunday. Oh yeah, they’re back with a fresh start too, they now stand at a decent 3-3 record before taking Week 7 off.

Ladainian TomlinsonHmm… I don’t know about you but this sure smells like LaDainian Tomlinson engineering his Chargers for a huge comeback to the top of the NFL food chain. I told you to think twice before pissing these San Diego motherfuckers off.

After starting the 2007-08 NFL football season at a dismal 1-3 start, the San Diego Chargers won back-to-back games before the bye week to pull their record to a respectable 3-3. With the Houston Texans first to test this somewhat rejuvenated Chargers team for Week 8, in San Diego for chrissakes, they are definitely set-up for a big…

Chargers fans saved LaDainian Tomlinson from Madden

By: J.J. Jack

Yep, San Diego Chargers fans saved their franchise back, LaDainian Tomlinson from the dreaded Madden curse.

Apparently, EA Sports was rumored to be targeting San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson to be the cover boy of their annual NFL video game, Madden NFL 2008.

Of course, judging by the way the annual Madden cover boy gets his ass hurt the same year he’s on the cover, thousands of Chargers fans were clamoring for EA Sports to stop putting LaDainian Tomlinson on the cover of Madden NFL 2008.

One man started the a web site, SaveLTFromMadden.com, complete with a crossed-out mock-up of a Madden NFL 08 cover with Tomlinson, in an attempt to keep curses as far away from the athlete as possible.

The site’s main point is an online petition directed toward Electronic Arts asking the publishing giant to not put Tomlinson on the cover of Madden NFL 2008. The petition had 606 signatures.

All this for a goddamn cover of a video game huh?

Well, you can’t blame Chargers fans for taking matters in their own hands. Last year’s cover athlete, the formerly durable Shaun Alexander, broke his foot and saw his NFL record for rushing touchdowns broken by Tomlinson after just one year in the record books.

The previous year, Donovan McNabb graced the cover of Madden NFL 06 and fought injuries all season long.

In the biggest case for the existence of the curse, and could be the single-most significant moment when people started believing in the dreaded Madden curse, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick broke his leg in a preseason game shortly after…

A shocking head TURNER, Chargers hire coach NORV

By: J.J. Jack

For all ya’ll keeping count, this is Norv Turner’s THIRD chance for redemption as an NFL head coach.

Norv Turner was named the new San Diego Chargers head coach, replacing Marty Schottenheimer, the same man who replaced Turner to coach the Washington Redskins a few years ago.

Oh yeah, in case you missed it, Marty Ball was officially scrapped by the Chargers after Schottenheimer’s relationship with Chargers general manager A.J. Smith soured even further, ultimately leading to Marty Schottenheimer getting his ass fired.

norv_turner.jpgThe San Diego Chargers seem intent on upgrading their coaching staff some more as hours before Norv Turner was hired, Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Ray Rivera was called to become Turner’s linebacker coach.

Yep, the Chicago Bears, after fumbling their chance to win a title at Super Bowl XLI to the Indianapolis Colts, fumbled Ray Rivera, one of the best coaches in the game away.

At least you can’t blame this one on Rex Grossman for a change.

However, hiring Norv Turner, one of the league’s most respected offensive coordinators, is a gamble for the San Diego Chargers. In seven NFL Football seasons with the Washington Redskins (1994-2000), Turner made…

And now, the stupid San Diego Chargers FIRED their NFL Head Coach, Marty Schottenheimer

By: Syndicate

And just when you thought the San Diego Chargers lost enough coaching staff already, they fired their head coach.

In a shocker Monday night, the legendary NFL head coach, Marty Schottenheimer, was fired by San Diego Chargers team president, Dean Sopranos because of the ”dysfunctional situation” between Marty and GM A.J. Smith.

And now with the firing of Schottenheimer, the San Diego Chargers went from a ”dysfunctional situation,” to a ”dysfunctional team.” I guess there goes San Diego’s bid for the 2008 Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona eh?

marty_schottenheimer.jpg”This decision was so hard because Marty has been both a friend and valued coach of our team,” team president Dean Spanos said in a statement. ”But my first obligation is always to do what is in the best interest of our fans and the entire Charger organization. I must take whatever steps are necessary to deliver a Super Bowl trophy to San Diego.”

He adds, ”Events of the last month have now convinced me that it is not possible for our organization to function at a championship level under the current structure. On the contrary, and in the plainest possible language, we have a dysfunctional situation here. Today I am resolving that situation once and for all.”

Well, as far as I’m concerned, this drastic…

Final AFC-NFC battle at the 2007 Pro Bowl in Hawaii

By: J.J. Jack

This is our last taste of NFL Football before we make that long wait for next season in September.

Yep, the best players in the AFC will meet the best players in the NFC to play in the annual Pro Bowl game at Aloha Stadium in Hawaii. Unlike Super Bowl XLI where the last two surviving teams of the playoffs play for the Vince Lombardi trophy, the Pro Bowl is THE battle of the very best, they just don’t take it seriously as they do a Super Bowl championship game.

At the 2007 Pro Bowl, you’ll see the best players in the world. Guys like Super Bowl XLI Champions Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning and WR Marvin Harrison will be there, teaming up with San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson and Kansas City Chiefs TE Tony Gonzales NOT to represent their respective teams but to play for one team, in this case, the AFC Conference.

Speaking of the AFC Conference, five players from the Super Bowl XLI champions will be there. Joining Peyton and Marvin will be Colts wideout Reggie Wayne, tackle Tarik Glenn and center Jeff Saturday. (You just know Jeff Saturday will be out this Saturday to have a huge NFL Football Saturday game on Pro Bowl Saturday… He he…)

As for the NFC Conference, watching the demise of their conference brothers, the Chicago Bears, is still fresh from their memories. Either that or they just don’t give a rat’s ass about the Bears or Rex Grossman. Nevertheless, they will be out to prove that they are the better conference in the league and would stop at nothing in…

What if the Indianapolis Colts made a mistake and drafted Ryan Leaf instead of Peyton Manning?

By: Syndicate

Ryan who?

Yep, the name Ryan Leaf is almost synonymous to TRADE BUST these days but back in April of 1998, his name, and that of a young Peyton Manning, were always mentioned in a debate on who should be drafted first.

Ryan Leaf was as good a quarterback as a Peyton Manning back in college. If not better. Leaf was a junior quarterback in Washington State when he decided to forego his senior year and enter the NFL Draft.

Nobody expected Ryan Leaf to have the season he had in his junior year. 9d8 He passed for 3,968 yards and 34 touchdowns with 11 interceptions to lead the Washington State Cougars to their first Rose Bowl in 67 looong years.

As for our Peyton Manning? He entered his senior season at Tennessee as the consensus top pick for the upcoming NFL Draft. Manning did little to disappoint, throwing for 3,819 yards and 37 touchdowns, compared to 11 interceptions. But he wasn’t the HOT STUFF so to speak then, it was Ryan Leaf, and yep, his overall No.1 pick status sure was in jeopardy.

Peyton Manning was viewed as the conservative choice, while Ryan Leaf, who had a considerably stronger arm, actually was thought to have the bigger upside.

The Indianapolis Colts ultimately went with Peyton while Ryan Leaf was signed by the…
