What’s the Deal with Snakes on a Plane?

By: J.J. Jack

I just don’t get it.

Yep, people behind the new Samuel L. Jackson flick called, ‘’Snakes on a Plane‘’ are claiming that bloggers ‘’helped'’ increase the hype around the movie. Hell, one even said that they were surprised just how bloggers had a dramatic affect on the said film.

Well, bloggers do that. The problem is, I just don’t get it why some bloggers devote time in promoting some flick we’ve already seen before.

Sure, snakes inside a cabin is sure is a first for quite a while but c’mon, we all saw the Anacondas and… well… more Anacondas on the big screen. Why be interested on the same genre again?

Snakes are still snakes, no matter where you put them.

Samuel L. Jackson stars as FBI agent Nelville Flynn, who is accompanying a key mob trial witness on a flight from Hawaii to Los Angeles. And, well, there are snakes on the plane. The storyline is rather simple, but some bloggers say that’s the brilliance of it.

Whatever.Samuel L. Jackson, and the mere notion of snakes on a plane have burst the movie through the blogosphere. Don’t ask me…

America’s Five Movie Disasters

By: J.J. Jack

America is not always a success story.

Yup, we all saw the fabled David Letterman - Jay Leno rivalry that almost resembles the New York - Los Angeles turf war. (Letterman is from New York while Leno is from L.A.) We also saw the incredible ‘’Lord of the Rings’’ and new ‘’Star Wars’’ trilogy that made nerds COOL.

However, America is not always the success story it wants us to believe. Here are just FIVE of the reasons why America can also be a living hell.

  • In the 1996 movie ‘’Kazaam,’’ Shaquille O’ Neal played a rapping genie who helps a kid reunite with his workaholic father. All you need to know about this HUGE BUST-BUSTER is the fact that someone from the Miami Heat actually tried to act.
  • Back in 1988, ‘’Vibes‘’ featured two psychics played by Cyndi Lauper and Jeff Goldblum. Despite opening in more than 1,000 theaters, it grossed less than $2 million at the box office.
  • 1990’s ‘’Dick Tracy‘’ has a cast that includes Warren Beatty, Madonna, Dustin Hoffman, Kathy Bates and Paul Sorvino. Yet the thing most people remember about the movie is that it was very bright and colorful. That is not a good sign.
  • Following the success of ‘’48 Hours‘’ and ‘’Beverly Hills Cop,’’ Eddie…

Batwoman is Looking for Punks and Pussies

By: J.J. Jack

Well… Mostly pussies this time.

Batwoman will be making her return to DC Comics. Only this time, she won’t be the same goodie-goodie female counterpart of the good ‘ol Dark Knight.

A DC Comics spokesman confirmed that Batwoman will indeed return and she will return as a ‘’lipstick lesbian.'’ The keyword here is ‘’lesbian.'’ Yup, Batwoman is now a freaking lesbian who moonlights as a crime fighter. Jeez… What’s the world coming to…

Batwoman - real name Kathy Kane - will appear in 52, a year-long DC Comics publication that began this month. In her latest incarnation, she is a rich socialite who has a romantic history with another 52 character, ex-police detective Renee Montoya.

52 will be published in the UK as a graphic novel by Titan Books in 2007. - BBC News

The aforementioned series is set in a world gone wrong, where established heroes like Superman, Wonder Woman and of course, Batman, no longer plays a part in crime fighting or whatever the hell it is they do.

Batwoman’s so-called ‘’reinvention'’ is just one of a wave of ethnically and…

How Opal Mehta Got Caught Plagiarizing

By: picaresque
Bestseller Guilty of Plagiarism

Life sucks, and then there’s Kaavya Viswanathan. At 19, she was having a bestseller to her name; it was only her first novel. Faster than one could say, ‘golden girl of chick literature’, no words could excuse her from what was found out next: she plagiarized. Kaavya heavily plagiarized from not one but five books. She admitted it, too.

Meet the plagiarist. Kaavya Viswanathan is unlike most other Indian Americans who go to Harvard. She was no older than 17 when she scored a book deal for her debut novel, How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life. The novel was paid attention when it came out in March this year. The publisher, Little Brown & Company, paid her a reported $500,000 in advance for a two-book contract.

The shit hits the fan. ‘Opal Mehta’ told the tale of how an Indian American teenager from New Jersey plotted to get a social life in order to make it to Harvard. It was No. 32 on the New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list when the plagiarisms were first revealed.

The book was found to have copied extensively from…

Once Upon A Time There Was A Prince Who Married A Handsome Prince…

By: Poppy Z

You think you’ve heard all the fairy tales ever written? Well some parents in Lexington, Massachusetts weren’t ready for a new kind of fairy tale being taught to their kids.

The Parents Rights Coalition of Boston is protesting against a public school where a teacher read a book titled King & King to her 7-year-old students to teach them about the different types of marriage.

The story goes like this: The crown prince rejects a bevy of beautiful princesses, rebuffing each suitor until falling in love with a prince. The two marry, sealing the union with a kiss, and live happily ever after.

Now this fairy tale about gay marriage has sparked a civil rights debate in Massachusetts, the only U.S. state where gays and lesbians can legally wed, after a teacher read the story to a classroom of seven year olds without warning parents first.

The school defended itself saying they don’t have to ask permission to parents regarding what book to read to the children. Plus since gay marriage is legal in Massachusetts, it’s only right to educate the children about it.

Because face it, kids there see them all around. Their classmates, their classmates’ parents, their aunts, uncles, neighbors. It’s just one big gay party out there. So what’s all the fuss about one gay fairy tale?

And hello! Fairies, men in tights? Tell me you don’t find one gay thing about fairy tales! Naturally straight heterosexual parents find this act ‘’heinous and…'’

Judas is NOT a Traitor After All…

By: J.J. Jack

Yup, as we approach the Holy Week, OddJack takes a look at the Bible’s biggest villain.

Judas Iscariot.

Since time immemorial, we were taught that Judas betrayed Jesus Christ when he sold the Messiah to the Romans in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. Now, it’s no longer questionable whether Judas did that or not, he DID sold Jesus to the Romans for silver coins, however, it turns out that he didn’t betrayed Christ at all.

Wha?.. Confused eh…

You see, Judas did sold Jesus, NOT because of greed for money but, get this, he was merely following what Jesus Christ himself told him! Yup, you read it, Jesus actually staged it for Judas to betray him when he asked Judas to sold him to the Romans, making Judas definitely NOT a traitor but a faithful follower of…

Breaking the Da Vinci Code

By: J.J. Jack

Dan Brown is one rich dude by now.

Dan Brown’s ‘’The Da Vinci Code'’ struck the very core of our human psyche that it’s about time we talk about it here in OddJack.

For all of ya’ll who wasn’t able to pick up this very good read, the novel, ‘’The Da Vinci Code'’ claims that Jesus Christ was indeed married to Mary Magdalene and they had a daughter named Sarah.

The Holy Grail pertains to the cup of Christ, ‘’the chalice,'’ wherein during Holy Mass, is used to ‘’contain'’ the blood of our Lord and Savior.

According to the novel, the Holy Grail is Mary Magdalene since she was married to Jesus Christ and bore a daughter, therefore carrying Jesus Christ’s bloodline.

Perhaps you’ve heard of Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code. This fictional thriller has captured the coveted number one sales ranking at Amazon.com, camped out for 32 weeks on the New York Times Best-Seller List, and inspired a one-hour ABC News special. Along the way, it has sparked debates about the legitimacy of Western and Christian history.
