And all it took for the Steelers to turn this one around was 15 seconds.
The Steelers were on the verge of losing for only the second time this 2008-09 NFL football season. They were down 13-3 at the end of the first half, failing to put anything else on the board after scoring the first points of the game early in the first quarter with a 49-yard field goal from Jeff Reed.
Luckily for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the game will end the way it started, with Jeff Reed. But before Reed’s game-winning field goal, the Steelers had to turn this one around first and give their kicker a chance to win it for them.
The Baltimore Ravens were holding a
commanding 13-3 lead to start the second half. After Santonio Holmes cut into that lead, coming up with a 38-yard touchdown play with Ben Roethlisberger to help Pittsburgh close in, 13-10, with 4:09 remaining in the third, the Ravens had no idea that they will ultimately relinquish their lead 15 seconds later.
Starting from Ravens territory, Baltimore’s undrafted rookie quarterback Joe Flacco fumbled the football. It was then recovered by Pittsburgh’s Lamarr Woodley for a 7-yard…

Upsets and more upsets, that was the theme in Week 5.
And after the fifth week of the 2008 NCAA college football season concluded, we have a new team on top of the BCS rankings. Of course, after the Trojans, then ranked No.1 overall, shockingly lost to Oregon State last week, this was expected.
And this time, we have the Oklahoma Sooners on top of the BCS food chain after five weeks on the college gridiron.
Oklahoma, one of the hottest team in college football at this point of the season, continues to dominate opponents, beating them by
an average of at least 25 points per game. And just like any other season in college football, the Sooners have Oklahoma thinking of getting a crack at the 2009 BCS national title come January.
The Sooners destroyed 24th seed TCU Horned Frogs 35-10 last week to become the number one team in the nation, overtaking the USC Trojans, but since we’re in for another wild season in college football, I won’t be expecting these guys to remain that long at No.1.
AP Top 25 and USA Today Poll have different teams on the second spot. AP polls have the Alabama Crimson Tide behind the…

Isn’t it ironic that the high-flying Eagles just might be grounded with the loss of their ground game?
2-1. That’s where the Philadelphia Eagles are after three weeks into the 2008-09 NFL football season. They’re playing some of the best football ever seen from Philly since the days when Terrell Owens was still catching footballs from Donovan McNabb.
And although Donovan McNabb, finally healthy again, is the obvious reason why the Eagles have been this good so far this year, their consistent ground game has been a key as well, tightening up the other teams’ defense to let McNabb send some cannons towards that wide open field.
The Philadelphia Eagles are
fortunate to have Brian Westbrook perfectly compliment the team’s passing game by coming up with one of the best performances on the ground by a runningback this season every single week.
Of course, it was bad news for the Eagles when they learned that Brian Westbrook suffered an ankle injury in their win over the Steelers last Sunday. The ground game is the base of any offense that allows quarterbacks to send that ball downfield while everybody’s crowded in front of the center and with Philly’s Westbrook slowing down…

Yep, we have the first BIG BIG BIG game of the season.
Arguably two of the top programs in college football history collide in Week 3 of the 2008 NCAA college football season as the Ohio State Buckeyes visit the USC Trojans on Saturday.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are on a roll, starting the season with a clean 2-0 slate, beating Ohio 26-14 after stomping on Youngstown State 43-0. They come to Trojans’ territory gunning for a third straight win, looking to prove that they still are the team to beat on the college gridiron.
The only area of concern for the visiting
Buckeyes is the status of tailback Chris ‘’Beanie'’ Wells who was sidelined with an injured foot in their last game. Wells ran for 115 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries in a season-opening 43-0 win over Youngstown State before getting hurt against Ohio.
He was ninth in the nation last season with 1,609 rushing yards.
STILL, Buckeyes head coach Jim Tressel said he expects Wells will be able to play. The junior told Tressel that he’s…

We knew this one was only a matter of time.
While teams prepare for the coming 2008-09 NFL football season, one team finally made a choice that will probably be the difference between a run at the Super Bowl title or another early vacation.
I’m referring to the Chicago Bears. And yes, they finally made a choice, putting an end to this quarterback drama in the Windy City that lasted for two years. People, Rex Grossman won’t be starting.
You read it, Rex Grossman, after
leading his team to Super Bowl XLI against the Indianapolis Colts two seasons ago, was finally shelved after head coach Lovie Smith made the decision of awarding Kyle Orton the starting QB spot after Grossman, despite his Super Bowl run, still showed inconsistencies and erratic plays.
Kyle Orton will start for the Chicago Bears on Thursday when they play the San Francisco 49ers in a preseason game. He will also start for the Bears in their regular season opener against their Super Bowl XLI rivals…

That’s why NBA teams don’t want to come to Utah, and after this one, who will?
Yes people, we needed to take a break from the intriguing 2008 NBA playoffs and write about something else other than the Boston Celtics and even more horseshit. And while the Jazz already took their exit from this year’s title chase, at least Utah still made its way on this site.
Turns out that a sports photographer from the Standard-Examiner named Ryan McGweeney was struck by a freakin’ javelin tossed during a high school championship track and field meet in Utah.
Hours after his leg was pierced by
a javelin at BYU’s Clarence Robison track stadium, Ryan McGeeney, who served seven years in the Marines including a six-month deployment in Afghanistan, was fortunate to be able to appreciate the irony. Imagine that.
‘’They don’t have javelins in Afghanistan,'’ Ryan McGeeney joked after returning a few hours later to continue shooting photos of the track meet. (Yes, he still took photos of flying javelins…) ‘’That’s where I’m lucky.'’
McGeeney was watching a Top of Utah competitor in a girls discus event at the…

Yes, the Falcons drafted a quarterback.
Coming into the brand new 2008-09 NFL football season, the Atlanta Falcons are hoping that the guy they drafted will finally save their franchise from the shithole they have fallen into after Michael Vick decided to bet on pitbulls.
You read it people, the Atlanta Falcons just drafted a guy that can potentially save this franchise and put them back on the map. As NFL commissioner Roger Goodell walked to the podium, he leaned towards the mic and said these very words Michael Vick probably didn’t want to hear.
‘’With the third pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select [dramatic pause] Matt Ryan, quarterback.'’
Yes folks, the Atlanta Falcons, after the rather miserable and pathetic performance they got at the position last season, drafted the former Boston College Eagles quarterback in hopes of finally having a solid man at the position that could finally give this team more wins for a change.
After the Atlanta Falcons drafted Matt Ryan, it is safe to say that the career of Michael Vick as a member of the Atlanta Falcons is… OVER. There will be no comeback for Vick with the ATL, perhaps there will be no comeback at all.
And if Michael Vick was watching the 2008 NFL Draft from prison…

Although that probably don’t mean shit to most of us, it does to the Golden Boy.
You see, for the first time since 2001, the ‘’Golden Boy'’ Oscar De La Hoya comes home to HBO when he goes up against former champion Steve Forbes this Saturday for HBO’s flagship boxing series.
The De La Hoya - Forbes bout will headline the inaugural boxing event at The Home Depot Center’s 27,000-seat soccer stadium. Oscar De la Hoya will be making his 31st appearance on HBO and is hoping that the fans who supported him as an amateur in East Los Angeles will be supporting him again this Saturday.
De La Hoya, the former six-division
world champion, will also have Floyd Mayweather Sr. back in his corner for this bout. The two separated ways when De La Hoya went up against his trainer’s son, Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a high-grossing fight, May of 2007. De La Hoya is hoping to earn the same this Saturday considering that he sure has a lot going on for him coming into this bout.
On the other hand, Steve Forbes is coming off a split-decision victory over Francisco Bojado last October. Although his last fight is not the same high-grossing event like that of De La Hoya’s last…

Three teams will try to finish their respective first round face-offs this Friday, hopefully, the second round can finally go underway.
You read it people, we have three teams on Friday trying to close out their respective first round, best-of-seven series in the 2008 NBA playoffs. That being the Celtics, the Jazz and the Cavaliers. And just because there’s no way in hell the Hawks from the ATL can outplay the Boston Celtics at home for the third straight time while facing elimination, let’s start from there.
The Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks are having a best-of-seven war wherein both teams have held serve. The Celtics won the first two games in Boston while the Hawks won the next two in Atlanta. When this series shifted back to Boston for Game 5 last Wednesday, the Celtics won that convincingly, 110-85, to take a commanding 3-2 lead.
Game 6 is in Atlanta and although the series’ pattern points to another win for the home team, I reckon home cooking won’t be the case this time because I’m sure the Celtics can’t afford to lose this one and give the young Atlanta Hawks even more confidence heading to a pivotal seventh game. Besides, winning by 25 points the last time is an indication that the Celtics really really want to get rid of these Hawks soon.
The Utah Jazz and the Houston Rockets resume their best-of-seven war and just because the Rockets won Game 5 convincingly three days ago, winning…

WHEW! Now that wasn’t that hard was it?
After mindlessly playing through the first round of the 2008 NBA playoffs, the Pistons finally did what they were expected to do right from the moment that it was learned that these guys are playing the 76ers first, fuck the Sixers’ asses up so bad that their mommas in Philly will start spitting out Rasheed’s shit.
You read it people, the Detroit Pistons finally got rid of Philadelphia in the first round, winning convincingly 100-77 in Game 6 to win their best-of-seven series 3-2 and advance to the second round against the Orlando Magic. It was a dominant performance from the 313, again showing how good this Pistons team really is whenever they feel that they have to be at their best.
The Philadelphia 76ers started to put the Pistons on notice when they won Game 1 in Detroit to take a 1-0 lead. Then, these 76ers put the rest of the world on notice when they won Game 3 at home to take a 2-1 advantage and an opportunity to grab a commanding 3-1 lead with only one more win away from coming up with probably the biggest upset of the postseason.
Unfortunately for Philly, they woke up the Pistons, and in games 4, 5 and 6, the once sleeping giants were busy crushing any hopes…
