Can Matt Leinart carry the Arizona Cardinals to win?

By: J.J. Jack

Hey, at least these guys have began believing.

After winning their first preseason game before the 2008-09 NFL football season officially begins, the Cardinals have earned the right to start believing in themselves, earning the license if you will, to be optimistic after years of turmoil within the organization.

You read it, the Arizona Cardinals, after earing their first preseason win over the Chiefs in Kansas City, have began believing that they just might have what it takes to be a legitimate contender in the NFC West.

Hey, since that division will Matt Leinartprobably be the weakest one coming into the regular season, this is probably the perfect time for the Cardinals to make bold statements while they can. And since they now have two solid quarterbacks trying to outdo one another, resulting to a 27-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, we can’t really blame these guys for being this naïve early into the football calendar right?

Kurt Warner, Arizona’s 11-year veteran, is still trying to win the Cardinals’ no.1 quarterback spot. He started against the Chiefs, hitting six of…

Ken Griffey Jr. ties Sammy Sosa for 5th on Career List

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWe have a new home run king people.

And although this entire thing barely added a little excitement to the somewhat boring 2008 MLB baseball season, Ken Griffey Jr. sending that ball flying for the 609th time was still a pretty sight to say the least.

You read it, Ken Griffey Jr., now playing for the Chicago White Sox, blasted home run no. 609 of his career to lead his team past the Seattle Mariners 15-3. It was his first home run for his new team and you can bet your ass White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen was glad to made the deal that landed him this guy.

After Ken Griffey Jr. hit home run no.609, the 13-time All-Star goes into a tie with Sammy Sosa for 5th in the all-time list for home runs made in a Ken Griffey Jr. hits home run no.609career. For Griffey, finding himself tied with Sosa has a weird feeling to it. How? Read on.

‘’It’s weird,'’ Ken Griffey Jr. said. ‘’I've watched Sammy throughout the years. Tying him, it’s OK, I guess.'’

What’s even weirder is the fact that both guys did this home run record thing playing for Chicago. Sammy Sosa did most of his home run records playing for the Chicago Cubs. A few years later, Ken Griffey Jr. ties him while playing for the Chicago White Sox.

Before his homer no.609, Griffey was in a…

Grossman shelved, Kyle Orton starts for Chicago Bears

By: J.J. Jack

We knew this one was only a matter of time.

While teams prepare for the coming 2008-09 NFL football season, one team finally made a choice that will probably be the difference between a run at the Super Bowl title or another early vacation.

I’m referring to the Chicago Bears. And yes, they finally made a choice, putting an end to this quarterback drama in the Windy City that lasted for two years. People, Rex Grossman won’t be starting.

You read it, Rex Grossman, after Rex Grossmanleading his team to Super Bowl XLI against the Indianapolis Colts two seasons ago, was finally shelved after head coach Lovie Smith made the decision of awarding Kyle Orton the starting QB spot after Grossman, despite his Super Bowl run, still showed inconsistencies and erratic plays.

Kyle Orton will start for the Chicago Bears on Thursday when they play the San Francisco 49ers in a preseason game. He will also start for the Bears in their regular season opener against their Super Bowl XLI rivals…

Sanchez Era begins for the USC Trojans on August 30

By: J.J. Jack

Well, before that, let’s hope the guy’s healthy first.

The 2008-09 NCAA college football season is upon us and for the USC Trojans, nothing is better than starting the season ranked no.3 overall. They will start the season at Virginia on August 30, that’s when Mark Sanchez will officially become the Trojans’ starting quarterback after filling in for the injured John David Booty thrice last year.

Is Mark Sanchez ready? Is he ready to accept the mantle of USC Trojans quarterback after the likes of Booty and Heisman trophy winner Matt Leinart made the position famous? Sanchez is coming off a horrific injury earlier this month after he dislocated his left kneecap and had to be carted off the practice field.

With the brand new Mark Sanchezcollege football season here, Mark Sanchez says he’s ready for the challenge. Hell, coming into a season as a starter for the first time in his college football career with the USC Trojans, he has to be ready, and excited.

‘’I'm optimistic about it, we’re ahead of schedule,'’ Mark Sanchez said after taking some drops, throwing some passes and doing a bit of light jogging. ‘’Everything today felt good. That’s a good sign. If it were up to me, I’m playing. [But] I want to be ready for the whole season. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.'’

Trojan fans are concerned about their new starting quarterback’s injury and…

People, Australia can beat Team USA on Wednesday

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgAnd in case you haven’t heard, they haven’t awarded Team USA with the Olympic basketball championship just yet.

And while Team USA looks primed to win gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, one team that may shock the rest of the world yet again is Australia. They are set to meet on Wednesday and the Aussies sure look the part of show stoppers.

After pounding Germany 106-57, Team USA has been the poster child for dominance in the Olympic Games. Other than Michael Phelps, the US basketball team gives the United States a better shot of winning a gold medal in Beijing.

Of course, with NBA stars like Andrew BogutLeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul, that gold medal is for Team USA to lose more than win it. Hell, Olympic officials could just hand them the gold medal already and none of the countries competing in this already one-sided basketball tournament will contest.

But then again, there’s Team Australia.

After beating then undefeated Lithuania in emphatic fashion, winning by a whopping 31 points, the Aussies showed the dominance on the hardwood you’ll…

The 2008-09 English Premier League Season finally began with Manchester United leading the way

By: Syndicate

That’s right, English football is on once again.

The 2008-09 English Premier League season finally got underway Saturday with seven games including Arsenal hosting West Brom. Defending Premier League champion Manchester United and second place finisher Chelsea opened their respective campaigns Sunday to kick-off day two.

The champions, however, did not start the season at full strength. Sir Alex Ferguson had to mix and match to compensate for the injuries they have at the start of their campaign. Fortunately for them, slow starts is nothing new to them.

Manchester UnitedLast year, Manchester United started slowly with just two points in their first three games but came back to win the title. Still, starting the season without superstar scorer Cristiano Ronaldo, who is out until October, should be big.

Cristiano Ronaldo had 42 goals for Man-U last season.

‘’Last season we had a staggered start, Tevez and Anderson joined us and weren’t 100 percent fit, Ronaldo got suspended for three games after the first game, then Rooney got injured in the first match against Reading and…'’

Who should you pick in your 2008 NFL Fantasy Draft?

By: J.J. Jack

Because the start of football season means it’s time to live out your fantasies.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t include a seven-hour ‘’humping'’ marathon with Anne Hathaway. The 2008-09 NFL football season is upon us people and when full grown men talk about their fantasies, they’re not talking about tits and ass but their own fantasy football teams.

Who should you pick in the first round of your fantasy draft? Did you win it all with your Tom Brady - Randy Moss combo? Or did you suffered a tragic loss playing for the championship when Brady and Moss both had terribly bad performances when the Patriots ALMOST lost to the Giants in their last game of the regular season? (Remember that? I almost did…)

Of course, the hot pick in this year’s NFL fantasy draft is last season’s rookie of the year Adrian Peterson. He has singlehandedly carried the Minnesota Vikings back from obscurity. They ALMOST made the playoffs to boot too.

I won’t be surprised to see the young runningback beat LaDanian Tomlinson for the top spot in fantasy ratings this season.

However, as impressive as Peterson has become in fantasy football, there’s this one guy that has done better, Philadelphia Eagles runningback…

Can the USC Trojans remain on top of the BCS Rankings and win the 2008 NCAA College Football Title?

By: Syndicate

If basketball has the Spurs, college football has these guys.

The USC Trojans have always been the picture of success in college football. However, as the brand new 2008 NCAA college football season opens up the door of opportunity for other teams to shine, can USC remain on top?

The last time the USC Trojans dominated the college gridiron is when Matt Leinart was playing. Leinart led the Trojans to an AP national championship in 2003, a BCS national championship in 2004, and an appearance in the 2005 BCS national championship game.

Since Matt Leinart went pro, the Trojans were left for John David Booty to carry on that winning tradition. And although he has, in some way, accomplished that task, the domination USC once had was gone.

Now that John David Booty has joined Leinart in the NFL, leaving the Trojans wondering if they can remain on top with two of their greatest quarterbacks gone, what’s in store for USC this season?

For what it’s worth, Mark Sanchez looks primed and ready to take over after successfully filling in for Booty when he was injured last season. Sanchez is fortunate to have a defense dubbed as…

Rivalries in the 2008 NCAA College Football Season

By: J.J. Jack

Oh you just know it will be there one way or another.

Football has always been all about rivalries and coming to the brand new 2008 NCAA college football season, you can expect old rivalries renewed and new ones born.

And while we count the remaining days before the new season of college football begins this month, have you ever wondered which of the great rivalries in football will continue this season? Never fear. As always, we have you covered.

Starting of is the rivalry between the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Wisconsin Badgers. Both teams have played 116 times, listed as the most played rivalry in NCAA college football history.

Both teams are set to meet again on November 15 when the Golden Gophers visit the Wisconsin Badgers, expect this one to be personal.

The Kansas Jayhawks have two rivalries going to be renewed this season.

First, the Jayhawks will be playing their rivals, the…

Donovan McNabb misses Terrell Owens

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgHow about that huh?

The brand new 2008-09 NFL football season is almost here and somewhere in Philly, Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb has began to reminisce what would’ve it been if he and Terrell Owens got along.

You read it, apparently, Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb misses former teammate Terrell Owens, saying that is T.O. stayed in Philly instead of leaving for Dallas, ‘’it could’ve been great.'’

‘’It could’ve been great,'’ Donovan McNabb said. ‘’What did we have, 30 TDs? You don’t see that type of combination very often. That’s like Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison. We would’ve been up there.'’

You really can’t blame McNabb for thinking the way he does right now. He spent most of the last two seasons in the injury list while former teammate Terrell Owens came THAT close from reaching the Super Bowl again with the Dallas Cowboys.

McNabb knows too that Owens finally have a quarterback he can trust and listens to in Tony Romo. And while the Cowboys are slowly becoming the team to beat in the NFC, McNabb’s Eagles are slowly falling to the pits of obscurity after every season.

For what it’s worth, McNabb says he’s…
