Sanchez Era begins for the USC Trojans on August 30

By: J.J. Jack

Well, before that, let’s hope the guy’s healthy first.

The 2008-09 NCAA college football season is upon us and for the USC Trojans, nothing is better than starting the season ranked no.3 overall. They will start the season at Virginia on August 30, that’s when Mark Sanchez will officially become the Trojans’ starting quarterback after filling in for the injured John David Booty thrice last year.

Is Mark Sanchez ready? Is he ready to accept the mantle of USC Trojans quarterback after the likes of Booty and Heisman trophy winner Matt Leinart made the position famous? Sanchez is coming off a horrific injury earlier this month after he dislocated his left kneecap and had to be carted off the practice field.

With the brand new Mark Sanchezcollege football season here, Mark Sanchez says he’s ready for the challenge. Hell, coming into a season as a starter for the first time in his college football career with the USC Trojans, he has to be ready, and excited.

‘’I'm optimistic about it, we’re ahead of schedule,'’ Mark Sanchez said after taking some drops, throwing some passes and doing a bit of light jogging. ‘’Everything today felt good. That’s a good sign. If it were up to me, I’m playing. [But] I want to be ready for the whole season. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.'’

Trojan fans are concerned about their new starting quarterback’s injury and…

Can the USC Trojans remain on top of the BCS Rankings and win the 2008 NCAA College Football Title?

By: Syndicate

If basketball has the Spurs, college football has these guys.

The USC Trojans have always been the picture of success in college football. However, as the brand new 2008 NCAA college football season opens up the door of opportunity for other teams to shine, can USC remain on top?

The last time the USC Trojans dominated the college gridiron is when Matt Leinart was playing. Leinart led the Trojans to an AP national championship in 2003, a BCS national championship in 2004, and an appearance in the 2005 BCS national championship game.

Since Matt Leinart went pro, the Trojans were left for John David Booty to carry on that winning tradition. And although he has, in some way, accomplished that task, the domination USC once had was gone.

Now that John David Booty has joined Leinart in the NFL, leaving the Trojans wondering if they can remain on top with two of their greatest quarterbacks gone, what’s in store for USC this season?

For what it’s worth, Mark Sanchez looks primed and ready to take over after successfully filling in for Booty when he was injured last season. Sanchez is fortunate to have a defense dubbed as…

Rivalries in the 2008 NCAA College Football Season

By: J.J. Jack

Oh you just know it will be there one way or another.

Football has always been all about rivalries and coming to the brand new 2008 NCAA college football season, you can expect old rivalries renewed and new ones born.

And while we count the remaining days before the new season of college football begins this month, have you ever wondered which of the great rivalries in football will continue this season? Never fear. As always, we have you covered.

Starting of is the rivalry between the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Wisconsin Badgers. Both teams have played 116 times, listed as the most played rivalry in NCAA college football history.

Both teams are set to meet again on November 15 when the Golden Gophers visit the Wisconsin Badgers, expect this one to be personal.

The Kansas Jayhawks have two rivalries going to be renewed this season.

First, the Jayhawks will be playing their rivals, the…

Which team has gone better this 2008 NCAA College Football Season? Ohio State Buckeyes or LSU Tigers?

By: Syndicate

Football season is finally here!

You read it, the brand new 2008 NCAA college football season has arrived and teams are once again set for new challenges, victories and setbacks. Looking back at 2007 BCS finalists; LSU Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes, both these teams have made in one way or the other significant roster changes. The question now is, who’s better?

To start of with the LSU Tigers, these guys still doesn’t need their quarterback to be great, but they need him to be consistent, just like Matt Flynn was last season. Even without Early Doucet, the receiving corps should be able to help out the new man under center.

Brandon LaFell could emerge as the new top receiver if he can get over his habit of dropping passes and Demetrius Byrd is a threat to score every time the ball is thrown in his direction.

Overall there is enough talent to win another BCS national championship, but a whole slew of inexperienced players better be experienced by the time the big conference games come around.

For the Ohio State Buckeyes, the 2008 version of the OSU offense should be exciting to watch. Nine starters will return on the offensive side of the ball and fans in Columbus, OH are ready for the Buckeyes to start this season and…

Shit to consider in 2008 NCAA College Football Season

By: J.J. Jack

It’s here! Finally! Football season baby! You gotta’ love it!

You can just imagine how sick we were watching all those horses run around a track or all those cyclists fuck themselves up with dope. Now that the 2008 NCAA college football season has arrived, ‘’real'’ sports return and boy, are we glad to have it back.

Coming into the brand new season, what are the things football fans (like most of us…) can look forward to? And what are those things that you (if you’re betting on these games, which you obviously are…) should stay the fuck away from? Well, the Michigan Wolverines are the obvious choice for one thing, with Mike Hart, Chad Henne, Jake Long, Mario Manningham and Adrian Arrington all gone, who in the right frame of mind will bet on these guys?

USC TrojansAs for the season’s hot prospects, the Ohio State Buckeyes should still be an obvious choice to make some dough.

I mean, this team has been making an appearance in the BCS national championship game for two years now and I won’t be surprised if they make a third straight one.

Like Columbus, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish should also be a solid bet. After all, those guys are probably still agitated with the way their 2007 campaign went. Now that this…

Can the BCS Champions, LSU Tigers, win the national title again in the 2008 NCAA College Football Season?

By: Syndicate

The LSU Tigers are still the defending BCS champions until somebody proves otherwise.

The brand new 2008-09 NCAA college football season is ALMOST here, kicking off football season that we have been missing, a lot. On that note, can the LSU Tigers, after cracking the uncrackable team from Ohio State, win it again this season and celebrate a re-peat?

The LSU Tigers will enter the 2008 season with 693 victories, the 12th most in NCAA history, and the 4th most of any SEC team, behind only Alabama (787), Tennessee (771), and Georgia (714). LSU will also enter the 2008 season with a 0.640 all-time winning percentage, the 14th best in the NCAA, and the 4th best in the SEC, behind only Alabama (0.706), Tennessee (0.697), and Georgia (0.644).

LSU TigersThis LSU football team started having the success they’ve been having after they won the BCS national championship in 2003 with a 21-14 victory over Oklahoma in the Nokia Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

Five years later, they did it again, beating the Ohio State Buckeyes with a 38-24 score, thus becoming the first team since the advent of the BCS to win multiple BCS national titles.

LSU is ranked as the number one team both in the AP Top 25 and USA Today. Yes, the nation agrees that this team is a…

Can the team once dubbed as the Seattle SuperSonics replace the Oklahoma Sooners in Oklahoma City?

By: Syndicate

Right now, Oklahoma is Sooners country.

Would that still be the case once the 2008-09 NBA basketball season gets here? Now that the team once called the Seattle SuperSonics have moved to Oklahoma City, you just know that the franchise will hope to do just that.

And just in case you haven’t heard, the team once known as the Seattle SuperSonics has now moved to Oklahoma City courtesy of business tycoon Clay Bennett after paying the $45 million settlement, which leaves Seattle with the Sonics’ name and history.

In addition to that, Seattle will Oklahoma Soonersreceive an additional $30 million from Clay Bennett if the Legislature approves funding for a new arena or KeyArena remodel in its next session and if a new NBA team does not move into that facility by 2013. Nevertheless, it’s still a victory for Bennett, who purchased the Sonics in 2006 from Starbucks Corp. chairman Howard Schultz for $350 million, as he moves the franchise to his hometown.

Bennett initially faced harsh criticism in Seattle for his efforts in trying to build a…

The Kansas Jayhawks came out of the NCAA Final Four to win the 2008 NCAA College Basketball Title

By: Syndicate

And while we’re still reeling over UNC’s demise, we can’t help but to be happy for Kansas and the way they came back in overtime to win it all.

Wow. Now that’s the way to culminate what has been a crazy college basketball season eh? The Kansas Jayhawks escaped in a pulsating win against the Memphis Tigers 75-68 in overtime to win the 2008 March Madness bracket tournament Monday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Kansas Jayhawks star Mario Chalmers buried a three-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in regulation to help his team push the game into overtime after being down nine with 2:12 left.

Kansas JayhawksThe Memphis Tigers left the door open by missing FOUR FREAKING free throws down the stretch. And in a game where every point counted, those four free throws the Tigers missed definitely was the deciding factor for their rather humiliating demise. (I mean, c’mon, they were leading by nine points in the final two minutes for crying out loud…)

‘’We got the ball in our most clutch player’s hands, and he delivered,'’ Kansas Jayhawks coach Bill Self said of Mario Chalmers’ three-pointer that…

How’s your 2008 March Madness bracket doing?

By: J.J. Jack

It’s on people.

The 2008 March Madness bracket tournament is all set. Leading the pack in the East is the number one seed, North Carolina Tar Heels.

The North Carolina Tar Heels wrapped up first place in the regular season, capturing the ACC conference title by coming up with a 76-68 victory over the Duke Blue Devils.

The win over the Duke Blue Devils gave the Tar Heels a 14-2 regular-season conference record and a 29-2 overall mark. Duke finished 13-3 in the conference. Usual starters for North Carolina are point guard Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington, Marcus Ginyard, Deon Thompson, and Tyler Hansbrough.

The 2nd seed in the East Division belongs to Tennessee Volunteers. Having won its first outright SEC championship in 41 years, Tennessee now hopes to break another jinx. Despite their success in their two seasons under head coach Bruce Pearl, they won the SEC Eastern Division in 2006 and were tied for second last year, the Tennessee Volunteers have been one-and-done in the conference tournament.

The Tennessee Volunteers have not gotten out of the second round of the tournament since 1991, the season before the league expanded to 12 teams. Volunteers head coach Bruce Pearl is hopeful that will change this year after they rolled to a 14-2 conference record with their 89-56 thumping of South Carolina in the regular season finale.

In the Midwest Division, the number one seed belongs to…

The North Carolina Tar Heels, the team to beat in the coming 2008 March Madness bracket tournament?

By: Syndicate

After winning the ACC regular season championship, who can say otherwise?

The NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament, otherwise known as the 2008 March Madness, is probably the largest, most elaborate championship tournament in American sports.

It will involve 65 schools playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the national champion of Men’s NCAA Division I college basketball. It is scheduled to begin on March 18, 2008, and will conclude with the championship game on April 7 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The host institution will be the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Of course, San Antonio is proud to be hosting its third Final Four in a decade and fifth overall NCAA Division I Championship in as many years.

Leading the pack are the North Carolina Tar Heels. North Carolina ended up where it was expected to be, atop the Atlantic Coast Conference with a record of 29-2 (14-2).

The Tar Heels settled for a perfect second half of the conference schedule, capped by winning 76-67 versus the Duke Blue Devils for the outright regular season championship.

The Tar Heels have at least won or shared three of the last four regular season titles. The 29 victories are the most in school history entering postseason tournaments.

A rematch with the Duke Blue Devils for these Tar Heels is possible. If so, that could…
