The Kansas Jayhawks came out of the NCAA Final Four to win the 2008 NCAA College Basketball Title

By: Syndicate

And while we’re still reeling over UNC’s demise, we can’t help but to be happy for Kansas and the way they came back in overtime to win it all.

Wow. Now that’s the way to culminate what has been a crazy college basketball season eh? The Kansas Jayhawks escaped in a pulsating win against the Memphis Tigers 75-68 in overtime to win the 2008 March Madness bracket tournament Monday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Kansas Jayhawks star Mario Chalmers buried a three-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in regulation to help his team push the game into overtime after being down nine with 2:12 left.

Kansas JayhawksThe Memphis Tigers left the door open by missing FOUR FREAKING free throws down the stretch. And in a game where every point counted, those four free throws the Tigers missed definitely was the deciding factor for their rather humiliating demise. (I mean, c’mon, they were leading by nine points in the final two minutes for crying out loud…)

‘’We got the ball in our most clutch player’s hands, and he delivered,'’ Kansas Jayhawks coach Bill Self said of Mario Chalmers’ three-pointer that…

How’s your 2008 March Madness bracket doing?

By: J.J. Jack

It’s on people.

The 2008 March Madness bracket tournament is all set. Leading the pack in the East is the number one seed, North Carolina Tar Heels.

The North Carolina Tar Heels wrapped up first place in the regular season, capturing the ACC conference title by coming up with a 76-68 victory over the Duke Blue Devils.

The win over the Duke Blue Devils gave the Tar Heels a 14-2 regular-season conference record and a 29-2 overall mark. Duke finished 13-3 in the conference. Usual starters for North Carolina are point guard Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington, Marcus Ginyard, Deon Thompson, and Tyler Hansbrough.

The 2nd seed in the East Division belongs to Tennessee Volunteers. Having won its first outright SEC championship in 41 years, Tennessee now hopes to break another jinx. Despite their success in their two seasons under head coach Bruce Pearl, they won the SEC Eastern Division in 2006 and were tied for second last year, the Tennessee Volunteers have been one-and-done in the conference tournament.

The Tennessee Volunteers have not gotten out of the second round of the tournament since 1991, the season before the league expanded to 12 teams. Volunteers head coach Bruce Pearl is hopeful that will change this year after they rolled to a 14-2 conference record with their 89-56 thumping of South Carolina in the regular season finale.

In the Midwest Division, the number one seed belongs to…

The North Carolina Tar Heels, the team to beat in the coming 2008 March Madness bracket tournament?

By: Syndicate

After winning the ACC regular season championship, who can say otherwise?

The NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament, otherwise known as the 2008 March Madness, is probably the largest, most elaborate championship tournament in American sports.

It will involve 65 schools playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the national champion of Men’s NCAA Division I college basketball. It is scheduled to begin on March 18, 2008, and will conclude with the championship game on April 7 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The host institution will be the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Of course, San Antonio is proud to be hosting its third Final Four in a decade and fifth overall NCAA Division I Championship in as many years.

Leading the pack are the North Carolina Tar Heels. North Carolina ended up where it was expected to be, atop the Atlantic Coast Conference with a record of 29-2 (14-2).

The Tar Heels settled for a perfect second half of the conference schedule, capped by winning 76-67 versus the Duke Blue Devils for the outright regular season championship.

The Tar Heels have at least won or shared three of the last four regular season titles. The 29 victories are the most in school history entering postseason tournaments.

A rematch with the Duke Blue Devils for these Tar Heels is possible. If so, that could…

2008 March Madness bracket is starting to take shape

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgVarious teams are becoming ‘’locks'’ if you will as we inch closer to this year’s bracket wars.

And by ‘’bracket wars'’ we mean the 2008 March Madness bracket tournament. With ‘’Championship Week'’ here, this thing called ‘’Selection Sunday,'’ the day when college hoops choose which teams should be in this year’s tournament, is upon us and these teams are really starting to make a case for themselves why they should get the invite.

Let’s start with the real mecca of college basketball, the ACC conference. Coming from this group, the North Carolina Tar Heels should be the team to beat after capturing the ACC championship last Saturday when they beat the Duke Blue Devils, 76-68.

Tyler HansbroughUNC star Tyler Hansbrough dropped a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds, leading the Tar Heels to a win over the Duke Blue Devils at the hostile Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The Clemson Tigers and the Miami Hurricanes round up the ACC and just because we feel sorry for the Duke Blue Devils when the Heels humiliated them on their home floor last Saturday, we still count Duke as one of the ACC teams you can bet on for the tournament in March.

As for other teams that should get the invite…

Things to consider before the 2008 March Madness

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThis year, Memphis, UCLA, Tennessee, North Carolina and Duke are forces to be reckoned with come the Final Four.

As the 2008 NCAA college basketball regular season winds down and conference tournaments tip off, North Carolina, Memphis, UCLA, Tennessee, Kansas, Duke, Stanford, Xavier, Texas and Wisconsin became the top ten teams this year and it looks like there will be no easy picks.

Most of these teams have very long standing traditions specifically in basketball. With this being said then we know how much hard work goes in and out of these schools gyms.

Tyler HansbroughOne of the most impressive players this year comes from Kansas State in the name of Michael Beasley. A player averaging 12.6 Rebounds, 26.7 Points, 1.6 Steals and 1.4 blocks a game who by far has the potential to be dominant in the professional league as well.

Not far behind is Tyler Hansbrough from North Carolina averaging 10.4 rebounds, 1.6 Steals and 23.4 points a contest. Not to shabby on his 2nd year at the helm of the Tar Heels. Being next in voting to J.J. Redick last year for the ACC player of the year has to bring pressure this time around, naturally Tyler is taking it head on.

Another impressive year as usual and kudos to one of the best coaches in basketball history is Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski. Another year and another team rich in teamwork and fast paced offensive…

Will George Mason make noise at March Madness?

By: J.J. Jack

In case you forgot what ‘’George Mason'’ meant, it’s the entity that destroyed your brackets after it went all the way to the NCAA Final Four.

And with merely a few more days before the 2008 March Madness bracket tournament begin, we found it fitting to write about them George Mason Patriots again. And NO… It has nothing to do with us liking this team that bares a similar name, the New England Patriots…

The George Mason Patriots shocked the rest of the world, LITERALLY, in 2006 when they went all the way to the NCAA Final Four. Although they fell flat on their faces when they went up against the Florida Gators that year, their Final Four stint instantly let them become ‘’superstars'’ of their own campus.

This year though, the George Mason Patriots are 20-9 and are ranked 72nd. As expected, all that fanfare they generated a couple of years ago died down a bit and for some reason, this particular Patriot, one of two remaining starters from the fabled George Mason Final Four team, likes it just the way it is.

Patriots forward Will Thomas, two years ago, would always have a pen beside his plate ready to sign autographs whenever he dines at the campus cafeteria for the fans their team generated in 2006.

Two years later, he’s happy that everything is back to ‘’normal.'’

‘’This year it calmed down,'’ Will Thomas said. ‘’You can enjoy your meal, sit there and talk, just hang out a little bit longer.'’

‘’It might sound weird, but we still have the energy and the…'’

Bobby Knight to make the coming 2008 March Madness bracket tournament even more MADDER

Bobby Knight, you know him, he’s the former head coach from Texas Tech who swears more than a dying Iraqi.

And in case you didn’t know it yet, Bobby Knight is about to do something many people never thought possible. With the 2008 March Madness bracket tournament merely a few more weeks away, Bob Knight is actually… (drum roll please…) joining the very team he hates most, the media.

Yes, you read it people. Former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Bobby Knight is joining the media guys from ESPN to cover the coming college basketball tournament this March. How about that huh?

Knight will serve as a college basketball studio analyst during ESPN’s coverage of Championship Week presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods. I guess you can say Mr. Knight is becoming the DICK he detests most in the past eh?

The ever lovable Bobby Knight has this to say about his new ‘’team.'’

‘’I think ESPN has been real good for college basketball and I look forward to working with some of their people who I have known a long time.'’ Yes, he actually said ESPN has been real good for college basketball.

At least this guy from ESPN is…

Tennessee Volunteers get No.1 before March Madness

By: J.J. Jack

They’re not the top dogs yet but you can bet you’re ass the Volunteers will savor this moment as the No.1 team of the nation.

The question now is, can Tennessee hold on to the No.1 spot with the 2008 March Madness bracket tournament merely a few more weeks away? Of course, they’re hoping but with powerhouse teams from North Carolina and UCLA breeding down their necks, they probably know deep down inside that losing the No.1 spot to those teams is inevitable.

That won’t stop the Tennessee Volunteers from savoring the moment though. After all, days like these doesn’t come by often in Tennessee.

Hell, this No.1 ranking they just Tennessee Volunteersreceived from college basketball coaches is the first one they got… IN SCHOOL HISTORY, so you can just imagine how happy these guys are at this point of the college basketball year.

‘’No.1’s great,'’ Tennessee Volunteers star guard Chris Lofton said Saturday, ‘’but we want to be No.1 at the end of the year.'’

Of course kid, who doesn’t? According to the Associated Press poll, the Tennessee Volunteers have beaten a No.1 team only once, that’s the 55-54 win over No.1 South Carolina on December 6, 1969. It is only fitting that they beat another No.1 team this season, beating the Memphis Tigers last weekend, to get their first ever…

Duke is FUCKED heading to the 2008 March Madness

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWhat’s going on with Duke lately?

After cruising through the first 23 games of the 2007-08 NCAA college basketball season with a dominant 22-1 record, the Duke Blue Devils hit a rather big speed bump. They lost two straight games, losing their last one to, of all teams, that club from the cesspool in Miami.

Yes people, the Miami Hurricanes, a team that has no business playing on a hardwood and should just stick with pigskin, actually defeated the powerhouse team of the Duke Blue Devils, giving Mike Krzyzewski back-to-back losses for the first time this season.

Duke Blue Devils‘’Our team, there’s something missing this week,'’ Duke Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. ‘’We are not the same team these last two ballgames. It’s almost like someone has come in and invaded their bodies.'’

Although watching somebody invade Mike Krzyzewski’s body is the last thing I’d like to see, the dude may have a point. In their last two games, Duke is scoring fewer points while allowing 24 more points from the opposition per contest.

Duke’s shooting percentages are also…
