Tennessee Volunteers get No.1 before March Madness

By: J.J. Jack

They’re not the top dogs yet but you can bet you’re ass the Volunteers will savor this moment as the No.1 team of the nation.

The question now is, can Tennessee hold on to the No.1 spot with the 2008 March Madness bracket tournament merely a few more weeks away? Of course, they’re hoping but with powerhouse teams from North Carolina and UCLA breeding down their necks, they probably know deep down inside that losing the No.1 spot to those teams is inevitable.

That won’t stop the Tennessee Volunteers from savoring the moment though. After all, days like these doesn’t come by often in Tennessee.

Hell, this No.1 ranking they just Tennessee Volunteersreceived from college basketball coaches is the first one they got… IN SCHOOL HISTORY, so you can just imagine how happy these guys are at this point of the college basketball year.

‘’No.1’s great,'’ Tennessee Volunteers star guard Chris Lofton said Saturday, ‘’but we want to be No.1 at the end of the year.'’

Of course kid, who doesn’t? According to the Associated Press poll, the Tennessee Volunteers have beaten a No.1 team only once, that’s the 55-54 win over No.1 South Carolina on December 6, 1969. It is only fitting that they beat another No.1 team this season, beating the Memphis Tigers last weekend, to get their first ever…

Duke is FUCKED heading to the 2008 March Madness

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWhat’s going on with Duke lately?

After cruising through the first 23 games of the 2007-08 NCAA college basketball season with a dominant 22-1 record, the Duke Blue Devils hit a rather big speed bump. They lost two straight games, losing their last one to, of all teams, that club from the cesspool in Miami.

Yes people, the Miami Hurricanes, a team that has no business playing on a hardwood and should just stick with pigskin, actually defeated the powerhouse team of the Duke Blue Devils, giving Mike Krzyzewski back-to-back losses for the first time this season.

Duke Blue Devils‘’Our team, there’s something missing this week,'’ Duke Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. ‘’We are not the same team these last two ballgames. It’s almost like someone has come in and invaded their bodies.'’

Although watching somebody invade Mike Krzyzewski’s body is the last thing I’d like to see, the dude may have a point. In their last two games, Duke is scoring fewer points while allowing 24 more points from the opposition per contest.

Duke’s shooting percentages are also…

Can Kansas Jayhawks withstand March Madness?

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWell, that’s what those guys from Sportsbetting.com are saying anyway.

With 9-2 odds to win it all this 2008 NCAA college basketball season, the Kansas Jayhawks join the UCLA Bruins as the teams to beat in the coming madness this March. That’s according to the folks who work with Sportsbetting.com.

The Kansas Jayhawks are ranked 4th in the AP Top 25 polls, while the UCLA Bruins sit at No.6 overall with a 22-3 record. Of course, we have more than enough of college hoops left until March Madness so don’t expect those rankings to remain the way it is at this point of the season.

Kansas JayhawksAs far as the team at the top is concerned, the Memphis Tigers still remain unbeaten with an incredible 25-0 record. But just because we’ve grown tired of unbeaten teams staying unbeaten lately, (and after the once perfect New England Patriots suffered their first loss at the Super Bowl… DAMMIT…) we’re not expecting those guys to remain perfect as well.

The Tennessee Volunteers sit behind the No.1 Tigers with a 23-2 record. Can they keep this up ’til March Madness? Um… Probably not.

Perhaps the biggest rivalry in all of college hoops is being relived this season with both the North Carolina Tar Heels and the…

Georgetown Hoyas beat Villanova Wildcats, creating controversy in Washington without George W. Bush

By: Syndicate

The score was 55-53 as the Hoyas defeated the Wildcats in stunning fashion.

But you probably won’t realize how controversy gave the Georgetown Hoyas their first home win over the Villanova Wildcats this 2007-08 NCAA college basketball season in more than a decade just by reading that alone.

You see, the win the Georgetown Hoyas scored over Villanova was probably even more controversial than the reigning king of Washington, George W. Bush. But hey, isn’t it ironic that Georgetown came up with the controversial win in ‘’George town?'’ He he…

Georgetown HoyasThe score was tied, 53-53, with less than a second left to play when Georgetown’s Jonathan Wallace dribbled 70 feet from the basket. Definitely not a prime spot to win the game with Wallace a good 70 feet away from their hoop right? Apparently, it was enough as Wallace heard a whistle that startled even himself.

‘’At first I thought I stepped out of bounds,'’ Jonathan Wallace said, ‘’because I was trying to make a play with the time running down. But I did kind of [feel a] nudge when I was trying to turn the corner.'’

‘’So,'’ Wallace shrugged, ‘’a call’s a…'’

North Carolina falls Head over Tar - Heels to Duke

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIt’s about time. UNC has been dogging the Devils in their last three meetings that Duke’s win last Wednesday was a breathe of fresh air.

Duke was riding from a three-game losing streak to their hated rivals from North Carolina coming to Wednesday night’s rivalry game, the biggest so far this 2008 NCAA college basketball season.

Greg Paulus scored 18 points, leading six Duke Blue Devils who scored in double digits to help their team pull off the 89-78 win over the No.3 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels.

Duke Blue DevilsAfter finally beating their hated rivals again after three unsuccessful attempts, the Duke Blue Devils are certainly looking like the team that fits in with their storied tradition.

‘’They’re pretty special right now,'’ Duke Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. ‘’We know who we are. We’re a very unconventional team. We’re not a strong physical team, but we are strong team emotionally, a real together group.'’

‘’You have to hope you don’t get killed by a team for a stretch by…'’

North Carolina Tar Heels v Duke Blue Devils Wednesday

By: J.J. Jack

Yes people, it’s a rivalry game.

After witnessing probably the BIGGEST tragedy in all of sports at the Super Bowl last Sunday, life in the sporting world moves on and what’s better than having another classic UNC - Duke rivalry game in the 2008 NCAA college basketball season to get us going again?

You read it people, the North Carolina Tar Heels will be locking horns with arch-rivals Duke Blue Devils as the college hoops season marches on towards March Madness.

The Duke Blue Devils are undefeated at 7-0 in conference play coming to this rivalry gameNorth Carolina Tar Heels vs Duke Blue Devils in Chapel Hill while the North Carolina Tar Heels are at 6-1. Both Duke and UNC sit 1-2 respectively in the ACC and just recently, jumped in poll just in time for their grudge match this Wednesday.

With the Memphis Tigers still keeping their overall undefeated streak alive at a commanding 21-0 overall, the Duke Blue Devils (19-1 overall) jumped in behind them at No.2 after climbing up the ladder from their 11th preseason ranking to 10th, 8th, 7th to 5th, to 3rd and finally…

Bobby Knight retires from the Texas Tech Red Raiders

By: J.J. Jack

Yep, after we paid tribute (sort of…) to Bobby Knight getting win No.900 in college hoops, he retires from Texas Tech.

What in the world must he be thinking eh? The Red Raiders are hovering around the .500 mark this 2008 NCAA college basketball season, that’s probably why he retired because he must’ve figured out that there’s no way in hell the Red Raiders would be able to survive at March Madness. That is of course, if they make it that far.

And yes, the winningnest basketball coach in college basketball history, that’s Bobby Knight of course, stepped down from Texas Tech. All of a sudden, I’m already starting to miss the foul-mouth, chair-tossing old fart.

Bobby KnightBob Knight’s son, Pat Knight, will take over as head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders. That’s right people, all you Red Raiders fans can already say good bye to any of your 2008 March Madness aspirations.

During Bob Knight’s career with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, he was 138-82 overall, leading the school to the March Madness bracket tournament in four of his six seasons.

Bobby Knight is also one of six men who…

Madness in the 2007 NCAA College Basketball Season Before March, here comes Lil’ Romeo

By: Syndicate

Because college hoops, as we know it, went hip-hop.

In what will only add to the madness this 2007 NCAA college basketball season before the March brackets arrive, Lil’ Romeo will be shooting hoops on the NCAA college basketball hardwood and in case you’re not well informed to know who the heck Lil’ Romeo is, he’s an actor / rapper and son of the hip-hop legendary mogul Master P.

So where will Lil’ Romeo be playing hoops? Lil’ Romeo, whose real name is Percy Romeo Miller, signed national letters of intent to attend Southern California and play for the USC Trojans.

Lil’ Romeo is currently a senior guard at Beverly Hills High, averaging 13.9 points and 5.6 assists last season. And apparently, Lil’ Romeo got his love for both hoops and music from his father, Master P, who tried to get to the NBA in the 1990s, TWICE.

‘’This is the most important thing I’ve had to do and hopefully it sends a message to kids across the country that education is more important than money,'’ Lil’ Romeo said at a news conference.

‘’Getting a college scholarship is more important than winning an American Music Award, and I plan to be the best student-athlete I can be at USC.'’ The 6-0, 170-pound Lil’ Romeo was ranked by one recruiting service as one of the top 15 prep point guards in the country today.

Along with Lil’ Romeo, the USC Trojans also…

North Carolina on top before 2007-08 NCAA College Basketball Season gets hit by the Madness in March

By: Syndicate

The college basketball season will officially kick off Monday.

And while we pretend we’re excited that the 2007-08 NCAA college basketball season will be kicking off (because we know that the REAL season starts on March…) the North Carlina Tar Heels will welcome the year sitting on top of these confusing college sports rankings. That’s despite failing to win the title after successive attempts.

Yep, the North Carolina Tar Heels are the No.1 team of the nation as we speak, beating the likes of the UCLA Bruins and the Memphis Tigers.

North Carolina Tar HeelsThe last time we saw the Tar Heels, they got their asses shocked and humiliated by the upstart team of the Georgetown Hoyas in the regional finals of their March Madness bracket. They lost a commanding 11-point lead then, missing 22 of 23 shots during a painful 15-minute stretch.

I told you these ranking systems they have for college sports are whacked.

For what it’s worth, three starters will be returning for the North Carolina Tar Heels this season, including of course, that big white boy, Tyler Hansbrough. And just like any other season these guys are coming into, North Carolina head coach Roy Williams is optimistic as always. But now, the guy is more…

Don’t vote for LeBron James in 2007 ESPY Awards

By: J.J. Jack

On July 15, ESPN will announce their own ‘’best athlete awards'’ on TV and whatever you do, please don’t vote for LeBron James.

Obviously, I don’t like the guy one bit. Sorry LeBron fans, if Dwyane Wade was nominated in the 2007 ESPY Awards, I’d pick on him but since the sick fuck is not nominated this year, I’d just screw with my second least favorite athlete of all time. Yep, it’s LeBron.

LeBron James is one of the nominees for the ‘’best male athlete'’ category in the 2007 ESPY Awards. He’ll join the likes of golf icon Tiger Woods, tennis great Roger Federer, last season’s NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson and Super Bowl XLI champion Peyton Manning.

My vote? It’s gotta’ be Peyton Manning. Heck, he had a whopping 4,397 passing yards in the concluded 2006-07 NFL football season. He had 31 touchdowns with only nine interceptions. And to top it off, he led the Indianapolis Colts to the Super Bowl XLI title and was named Super Bowl MVP.

Unlike LeBron James who was swept by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2007 NBA Finals. He he…

Speaking of the San Antonio Spurs, the 2007 NBA champions are…
