Padraig Harrington wins the 2008 British Open AGAIN

By: J.J. Jack

Well waddaya’ know, we have the first guy to take advantage of Tiger Woods’ absence.

But wait, Padraig Harrington did win the British Open last year too right? And after he won yet again, winning the 2008 British Open, you have to wonder if we’ll have a different story if Tiger did play or not.

You read it, Padraig Harrington bagged the 137th Open Championship, winning the title for the second straight year after beating both Greg Norman and Ian Poulter. He is now a back-to-back British Open champion people, and if you don’t know the guy before, you SHOULD now.

Two weeks ago, nobody Padraig Harringtonprobably predicted Padraig Harrington will have a re-peat, if you will. Harrington was at home practicing with an injured left wrist. And as the 14th ranked player in the world, he was not 100 percent sure he can continue to play in the Open Championship.

Adding insult to injury, Harrington tweaked the wrist again a day before the British Open starts, then saying his chances of finishing the Open were just 50-50. Lady luck sure have a nasty sense of humor eh?

‘’If you ask, me my best trait over the years, it’s always been my ability to…'’

The 2008 Open Golf Championship has begun

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYou read it, and you’ll never guess who’s back on top.

After almost getting it done against Tiger Woods in the U.S. Open, many did not expect Rocco Mediate to have the strong start that he had in the 2008 British Open Championship and carry on with the momentum he had at Torrey Pines.

Lo and behold, Rocco Mediate shot a 1-under 69 to share the first round lead at The 137th Open Championship with Robert Allenby and Graeme McDowell. After having a taste of superstardom after earning a playoff match with Tiger at the U.S. Open, he’ll be having more than just a taste if Mediate keeps this up.

Rocco Mediate‘’It was just one of those rounds,'’ Rocco Mediate said. ‘’It was just up and down and up and down and a couple of birdies, and here we are. I would have been ecstatic with 73 or 74 today. I’m ecstatic with this one. This was a lot of fun.'’

Mediate was under the weather so to speak, coming to the latest tournament on the golf course. His bad back was well documented and putting that back on display against a temperature as low as the low 50s, not to mention the wind gusting up to 25 mph, nobody was…

Tiger Woods is unsure when will he return to Golf

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYes, the world’s most popular golfer is unsure when he’ll be a golfer again.

That’s right, with Tiger Woods having undergone surgery, now wearing a knee brace and would need to be in crutches for at least three weeks, the world’s No.1 golfer is uncertain when he’ll be able to make a return to the golf course and play competitively.

Woods, speaking for the first time since his reconstructive surgery on June 24, didn’t have any timetable whatsoever to speak of when he made his first public remarks for the media since his operation.

‘’I really don’t know,'’ Tiger Woods said during a conference call to promote his AT&T National, a tournament near Washington, D.C., that he hosts but will be unable to attend.

‘’We’ll have to see how this thing heals and everyone heals at a different rate. Some six months, some at nine and some at 12. To be honest with you, no one really knows until we start the rehab process and see how this thing goes.'’

‘’My ACL wasn’t all that great to begin with,'’ he said. ‘’There wasn’t a whole lot left. You need to train and develop your hamstring and glutes as much as possible to hold it. Everyone was surprised it lasted as long as…'’

Tiger Woods wins the 2008 U.S. Open on 91st hole

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWha?!? You expected a virtual unknown that goes by the name ‘’Rocco'’ beat him?

I thought so. The 2008 U.S. Open is finally over with Tiger Woods, the very guy everybody knew will win, won it. Tiger defeated 158th ranked golfer Rocco Mediate last Monday to add another trophy to his name.

Yep, the the two-month layoff didn’t bother Tiger Woods. Hell, he wasn’t even favoring his knee after having surgery on it that put him out of the game for about eight weeks. With both his knee and his heart throbbing, he masterfully delivered in the clutch like most games he played with a club.

Tiger WoodsThe U.S. Open playoff ended with Tiger beating a somewhat gritty Rocco Mediate, a victory that even Tiger himself found surprising. (Of course, it’s not THAT surprising to us. He is after all, Tiger Woods, but hey, we’ll go with it…)

‘’I think this is probably the best ever,'’ Tiger Woods said. ‘’All things considered, I don’t know how I ended up in this position, to be honest with you. It was a long week. A lot of doubt, a lot of questions going into the week. And here we are, 91 holes later.'’

Some say that the conclusion to the 2008 U.S. Open made it the…

Tiger Woods V Rocco Mediate for 2008 U.S. Open Title

By: J.J. Jack

Here’s playoff game we probably won’t give a rat’s ass about.

For all ya’ll who are simply engrossed with the 2008 NBA Finals that you can’t possibly handle another playoff game to go nuts about, the 2008 U.S. Open golf tournament has been narrowed down to a pivotal playoff game between the two remaining participants. It’s sudden death so all ya’ll golf aficionados are probably salivating just about now.

And as expected, Tiger Woods is one of two guys going for the latest major of the golfing calendar. After knocking off a 12-foot putt that bumped along toward the hole and swirled into the back corner of the cup without an inch to spare, golf fans can’t wait to see what tricks will Tiger come up next for the title on Monday.

2008 U.S. OpenStanding across him is 158th ranked Rocco Mediate. You probably don’t know squat who the heck this guy is. We don’t know much about him either but since anything can happen in sports, betting on this guy, who’ll definitely come in as the underdog, will earn you a whole lot of money. Of course, betting against Tiger Woods is always a difficult decision.

Both players finished the 2008 U.S. Open at 1-under 283, the first time since…

Why Phil Mickelson has the advantage over Tiger Woods and basically, ANYONE, in the 2008 U.S. Open

By: Syndicate

Seth just wanted all of you to know that he STILL wouldn’t want to be caught dead wearing a silly golf outfit.

Now that THAT is out of the way (again…) golf’s latest major event is the 2008 U.S. Open and with this tournament set at the Torrey Pines, one golfer named Phil Mickelson enjoys a home court edge.

Phil Mickelson grew up in San Diego and played high school matches at Torrey Pines. His photo hangs from the concourse in the San Diego airport, along with the city’s other famous athletes.

Mickelson, a 34-time winner on Phil Mickelson VS Tiger Woodsthe PGA Tour, is 0-for-17 in the national championship. He’s tied with Sam Snead for most close calls with four runner-up finishes at the Open.

‘’I should have done it five years ago when I knew the Open was going to be here,'’ Phil Mickelson acknowledged. ‘’But I’ve been spending a lot of time on the greens to where I feel that not only this week but at future Buicks.'’

‘’I'll know the breaks of the greens and how they’ll react, and I should have that local knowledge again on the greens.'’

Mickelson is paired with the game’s biggest…

Can he finally win his first U.S. Open title?

The 2008 U.S. Open will run from June 12 - 15 at the Torrey Pines in…

The 2008 United States Open Golf Tourney is ON

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgI wouldn’t be caught dead wearing a silly golf outfit.

Now that THAT is out of the way, the 2008 United States Open Golf Championships, commonly known as the 2008 U.S. Open, is the annual open golf tournament of the United States. (DUH!) This month, the U.S. Open golf championships will be held from June 9-15.

It is one of the four major championships in golf and is on the official schedule of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. From 2008, it will also be an official money event on the Asian Tour, with 50 percent of Asian Tour members’ earnings counting towards the Order of Merit.

Who are the favorites to win this Tiger Woodsyear’s U.S. Open? Of course, the name Tiger Woods will be present in this list. The question SHOULD BE, who will take on the Tiger?

One name synonymous to that is Phil Mickelson, who is coming off a dramatic 1-shot victory at Colonial in which he virtually pulled a rabbit out of his hat for a birdie on the 72nd hole to clinch the win. Both Woods and Mickelson are always considered contenders any time they tee it up, but given their recent track records, it seems…

Trevor Immelman wins 2008 Augusta Masters

By: J.J. Jack

Who?!?

Our sentiments exactly. After four days of waiting who passes out first under the scorching heat of the sun, somebody was crowned as the winner of the recently held 2008 Augusta Masters last Sunday.

Who won? Somebody that goes by the name Trevor Immelman. Originally from South Africa, Immelman stretched his lead over Tiger Woods and the rest of them other golfers to as many as six shots to hold on for a 3-over 75 to win his very first green jacket.

Oh yeah, the win also made Trevor Immelman as the first South African since Gary Player in 1978 to win the Masters in Augusta, Trevor Immelmandenying Tiger of a fifth green jacket. (He’ll probably just go get one at Walmart now…)

Tigers Woods blew away his chances at the Masters that was absolutely his for the taking. And with it goes any more talk about a possible 2008 Grand Slam. ‘’I just didn’t quite have it this week,'’ Tigers Woods said.

Four months ago, Trevor Immelman was in a hospital in South Africa as doctors prepared to remove a tumor from his diaphragm, learning only after the operation that it was benign. Now, he’s left standing in Augusta as the new…

2008 Masters Golf Tournament (will you watch it?)

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgNot me, but for those of you who will, here’s what ya’ll need to know.

The 2008 Augusta Masters Tournament, which is commonly referred to as ‘The Masters’ or ‘The U.S. Masters,’ is one of four major championships in men’s professional golf and the first of the four to be played each year. The final round of the Masters Tournament is always scheduled for the second Sunday in April.

The 2008 Masters Tournament marks the 50th anniversary of Arnold Palmer’s first of four victories at Augusta National. It also marks 50 years since Amen Corner got its name. Gary Player will be competing in his 51st Masters, breaking the record for most consecutive appearances he shares with Palmer.

Tiger WoodsArnold Palmer won the Masters Tournament every other year beginning in 1958 and ending in 1964. Only Jack Nicklaus has won more green jackets than Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods, who each have four.

Tiger Woods will attempt to move past Arnold Palmer and begin his quest to achieve golf’s Grand Slam, something that has not been achieved since 1930 when Bobby Jones, co-founder of Augusta National, accomplished one of the rarest of all sports feats.

Tiger Woods held all four major trophies at the same time when he won the Masters in 2001 after winning the U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship the year before. Now Tiger Woods is targeting all four in the same…
