Boston Red Sox V New York Yankees part… (XI? XII?)

By: J.J. Jack

The Red Sox and the Yankees have met each other for so many times now that I lost count already.

Nevertheless, one of the most storied rivalry in all of sports will be renewed this 2008 MLB baseball season this Thursday and I reckon New Yorkers won’t be gracious hosts to the visiting Red Sox.

One of the longest, most bitter and most storied rivalries in professional sports will explode once again as the New York Yankees host bitter rivals, Boston Red Sox in a four-game season series at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, NY.

For over 100 years, New York Yankees vs Boston Red Soxthe Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees have been chief rivals, compounded by their geographic proximity. Since the inception of the wild card team and an added Division Series, the rivals have squared off in the American League championship series three times, with the Yankees winning twice in 1999 and 2003 before 2004 saw Boston celebrating.

In addition to that, both teams have met each other in the last regular season series of a season to decide the title in numerous occasions. Boston won one in 1904 before the Yankees…

Boston Red Sox vs Houston Astros this weekend

By: J.J. Jack

Baseball, baseball and more baseball. You’ll be seeing a lot of it with football still a few months away.

The 2008 MLB baseball season continues to heat up as a significant piece of the TV audience starts to tune in and see what’s been happening on the diamond lately. Don’t worry, baseball is still the same as it always has been in the past, boring as hell.

And what’s better to kick off this article with the defending MLB World Series champions, Boston Red Sox? The champs have a three-game season series with the Houston Astros for the weekend. Let’s hope that we’ll be seeing a little excitement here and there.

Red Sox starting Boston Red Soxpitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka, a right hand pitcher with a 3.46 ERA, will kick off this three-game series against the Houston Astros. Matsuzaka came off the 15-day disabled list for his last start against the Cardinals, looking nothing like the 8-0 starter that mowed down opposing lineups before suffering a right rotator cuff strain on May 27.

You have to wonder how good will Matsuzaka be against the Astros this Friday.

For the Houston Astros, it will be Runelvys Hernandez taking over Shawn Chacon’s spot in the rotation to face the Red Sox at Minute Maid Park. The 30-year-old right-hander has a 6-3 record with a 3.72 ERA over 15 starts for…

American League heats up 2008 MLB Baseball Season

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgBecause with the NBA Finals almost over and with football still a few months away, we won’t have much of a choice but to watch baseball.

He he… Yes, with virtually nothing on TV after the NBA Finals conclude, ya’ll probably won’t have much of a choice but to start watching the ever so exciting, (we use the term ‘exciting’ ever so slightly here…) 2008 MLB baseball season.

On that note, let’s take a quick look on what’s been going on around the diamond lately shall we? Hopefully, we’ll find something else to write about other than Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and a whole lot of steroids syringes.

And of course, like last season, Boston Red Soxeverybody’s still so fixated on the American League compared to the National League. While NBA fans favor the Western conference more than the East, baseball has this one.

Defending champions Boston Red Sox lead the pack from the American League East while the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Angels lead the Central and West divisions respectively.

Boston Red Sox are still coming out strong after winning the MLB World Series last season. They have a 43-28 win-loss record, with a decent 7-3 showing in their last 10 games.

In the Central division, the Chicago White Sox, with a 38-30 win-loss mark…

Yankees, Red Sox renew rivalry this 2008 MLB Season

By: J.J. Jack

Yes people, baseball season has started and we’re kicking it off for you when the Yankees and the Red Sox renew their rivalry on Friday.

You read it folks, the Yankees and the Red Sox will be facing off for the first time this 2008 MLB baseball season. It’ll be on this Friday, kicking off a three-game series that stretches until Sunday.

However, it seems both the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox are having their problems as of late. Nine games into the season and both teams are barely hovering around the .500 mark.

New York Yankees vs Boston Red SoxThe New York Yankees, for one, have one of the worst offense in the majors. Against the Kansas City Royals, it was as clear as crystal to Jason Giambi that this Yankees team is in no way the same team that won titles for this city before.

‘’You look around and you’ve got young kids over there running around like maniacs, and we’re playing like a bunch of old men right now,'’ Yankees star Jason Giambi said, referring to their play against Kansas City. ‘’They’re playing good baseball. Unfortunately, we just…'’

Red Sox in MLB baseball add more problems for Boston

By: J.J. Jack

Boston sure is taking quite a dive the last couple of weeks.

After probably reaching the highest pinnacle in sports, with the Boston Red Sox winning the 2007 MLB World Series, the New England Patriots going undefeated before Super Bowl XLII and the Boston Celtics dominating the league with their ridiculously talented revamped lineup, it was all downhill since.

And heading to the 2008 MLB baseball season, it looks like Boston still has one more to be mournful about. Curt Schilling, the superstar pitcher of the Boston Red Sox, is hurt merely a few more weeks before the baseball season kicks off. Cruel huh?

After the New England Revolution (that’s Boston’s soccer team in MLS soccer…) and the New England Patriots both choking in their respective championship games, the city dubbed as ‘’title town'’ started having all sorts of adversity lately and this problem within the Boston Red Sox camp is the last thing the city needs right now.

Hell, after all that hype surrounding every single Boston sports franchise this year, the Boston Red Sox are the only ones who have lived up to it. The Boston Celtics you say? Until Kevin Garnett comes back from his injury and become the dominant player that he is, I wouldn’t go ga-ga over the Celtics again just yet.

As far as Curt Schilling is concerned, the…

Boston Red Sox take 2-0 lead in 2007 MLB World Series

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgTwo wins away, that’s how far the Red Sox is from winning the World Series.

In what has been a dramatic comeback in the playoffs, the Red Sox are now two wins away from becoming world champions after beating the Colorado Rockies, 2-1, in Game 2 to take a 2-0 lead in the 2007 MLB World Series.

Yep, the Boston Red Sox, after almost eliminated by the Cleveland Indians in the ALCS thrice, found their way to move on to the championship series and take an early 2-0 lead over the Colorado Rockies.

Boston Red SoxSure, many of you probably thought the Red Sox will get here back when the season was just kicking off but after falling to the Cleveland Indians 3-1 in the ALCS, none of you probably expected the Red Sox to do this and still be this good.

While Josh Beckett was the man for Boston in Game 1, pitching was again the key in Game 2 as Curt Schilling dominated the Colorado Rockies bats, holding them to four singles and two walks in 5 1/3 innings.

The bullpen was huge for Boston as well as they got 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief from…

Can the Colorado Rockies beat the Boston Red Sox in Game 2 to tie the 2007 MLB World Series 1-1?

By: Syndicate

It was all red in Game 1, leaving the Rockies… well… ROCKED.

The 2007 MLB World Series was finally underway as the Boston Red Sox, this season’s comeback team yet again, simply trashed the Colorado Rockies, 13-1, to take the 1-0 lead in this best-of-seven affair for baseball’s richest prize.

The Boston Red Sox were probably still fuming with momentum after shocking the Cleveland Indians, then leading 3-1 and one win away from advancing to the World Series, winning three straight games to end the Tribe’s season in seven games.

Colorado RockiesFacing a well-rested Colorado Rockies team in Game 1 of the World Series, the Red Sox were simply on fire while exposing how rusty this Colorado team really was. Hell, Boston jumped on Colorado right from the get-go, scoring three runs in the very first inning to take the early 3-0 lead.

The Colorado Rockies did answer with a run of their own at the top of the 2nd inning. That, however, would be the only thing they’d be scoring in Game 1 as…

Red Sox beat Indians, advance to 2007 MLB World Series

By: J.J. Jack

Jeez… They did it again.

MLB baseball’s comeback team, that’s the Boston Red Sox, did it again. After going down 3-1 to the Cleveland Indians, the Red Sox won three straight games, winning their third one in Game 7 to advance to the 2007 MLB World Series against the Colorado Rockies.

Facing elimination for the third straight game, the Boston Red Sox simply dominated the stunned Cleveland Indians in Game 7, winning in convincing fashion, 11-2, to become the 2007 American League champions.

Boston Red SoxYou can almost feel how disappointed the entire ‘’Tribe'’ in Cleveland is right now after coming so close from advancing to baseball’s biggest stage. Hell, they had three opportunities to put Boston away and they wasted each one.

Boston’s most expensive import, that’s Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka who the Red Sox bought at a whopping $103 million in the offseason, was the star this time. Dice-K (Matsuzaka’s ‘’Western'’ nickname…) retired Cleveland’s first eight…

Can Red Sox force Game 7 and beat Indians Saturday?

By: J.J. Jack

Game 6 of the Boston - Cleveland series is this Saturday and just like last Thursday, Red Sox nation will be staring at elimination.

Yep, after having their backs against the wall, the Boston Red Sox pulled a 7-1 win over the Cleveland Indians in Game 5 to force a 6th game back in Boston this Saturday.

Thanks to ace pitcher Josh Beckett, the Cleveland Indians saw 11 of their bats striking out as the Boston Red Sox superstar only allowed a single run and five hits. Talk about dominance eh?

While Josh Beckett may have successfully masked Boston’s flaws in Game 5, he wasn’t able to make them all go away. And what’s probably even worse is the fact that the Red Sox would have to go to another guy other than Beckett to force a Game 7 on Sunday.

Hell, for all we know, Game 6 of the 2007 American League Championship Series could be the last game the Boston Red Sox will ever play at Fenway Park. Curt Schilling will get the nod for the Red Sox against the Cleveland Indians in Game 6 but we all know how that turned out last…

Red Sox beat Indians, force Game 6 at Fenway Park

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThey could’ve done this back in Game 4.

Yep, you read it, the Boston Red Sox could’ve just used their star pitcher Josh Beckett back in Game 4 and could’ve avoided going down 3-1 to them Indians. On a do-or-die Thursday night, the Red Sox did use Beckett, and guess what, they won the game.

Josh Beckett was the messiah indeed for the Boston Red Sox as they glared at elimination. With Beckett at the top of his game, the Boston Red Sox were able to force Game 6 back at Fenway Park after beating the Cleveland Indians, 7-1 in Game 5 to postpone Cleveland’s trip to the 2007 MLB World Series for at least one more game.

Josh BeckettBeckett struck out 11 Cleveland bats while only allowing a single run. You’ve got to wonder why the Boston Red Sox waited until their backs were against the wall before they brought out the big guns.

This is the second time Josh Beckett simply dominated the Cleveland Indians.

Of course, the rest of the Red Sox were more than happy to be able to stay alive in the 2007 MLB playoffs.

‘’Josh is unbelievable,'’ Red Sox teammate Kevin Youkilis said of…
