NL Teams likely to make it to the 2008 MLB Playoffs

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThe National League, hopefully, these guys won’t be as boring as hell come playoff time.

And since the road for the 2008 MLB World Series is about to begin once the postseason arrive, NL teams in the MLB are hoping to make some noise, looking to own a championship ring once the dust settles.

One of these teams is of course, the Arizona Diamondbacks. These guys should be fine as long as Brandon Webb is there to win games for ‘em. The D-Backs are probably this year’s counterpart of the Tampa Bay Rays in terms of shock factor since nobody expected them to be this good this year either.

Arizona DiamondbacksOnly time will tell if they can continue their Cinderella run.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, on the other hand, are simply too inconsistent to catch the top dogs although they still have a shot of making it to the playoffs. And it might even be a close fight to the finish although it still depends if the Dodgers can get hot in the final month.

The Chicago Cubs is also one of the teams from the National League who have shocked baseball fans across the country. The Cubs are perhaps the most complete team in the NL and quite possibly, the entire league. They have great team chemistry…

The 2008 MLB All-Star Starters both for the American League and the National League are almost complete

By: Syndicate

The stage is set for MLB baseball’s midsummer classic.

As boring as baseball has been this 2008 MLB baseball season, their midseason All-Star break will still come at you with full force whether you like it or not. After all, these guys have to do something to take our minds away from all the steroid issues surrounding their stars right?

And when the 2008 MLB All-Star Weekend gets here, those stars will be featured, with or without the use of steroids. Hopefully, stars that get the invite for the midsummer extravaganza won’t have to since this event won’t be as competitive as a regular season game anyway.

Boston Red SoxSo who got the invite?

The 2008 MLB All-Stars were named last Sunday (well some of them anyway…) and it was no surprise that four of the defending champions Boston Red Sox were selected for the American League All-Stars led by team captain Manny Ramirez.

Ramirez will be joined by Red Sox teammates David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis. However, as great as it would be seeing…

Can the National League keep up with the American League in the 2008 MLB Baseball Season?

By: Syndicate

Unfortunately for Mets and Dodgers fans, their teams’ respective counterparts in the American League STILL generate more hype.

That’s the way things have been the last couple of years, and in this 2008 MLB baseball season, nothing has changed. Why? Probably has something to do with the way this team from the AL East simply knocked the hell out of the National League’s representative during last season’s World Series.

In the National League, the Philadelphia Phillies lead the East, the Chicago Cubs lead the Central and the Arizona Diamondbacks lead the West. And although they may be regarded as the ‘’weaker conference'’ in baseball, don’t expect that to stop them from proving why people should start thinking otherwise.

Chicago CubsThe Philadelphia Phillies lead the Eastern division with a 41-29 record, also having the best road record in the National conference with 20-16. Against the St. Louis Cardinals, we all saw how impressive this Phillies team can be after the Phillies won with a whopping 20-2 blast. Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Pat Burrell hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the first inning, and the Phillies added nine runs in the fourth to win the opener of a three-game series Friday at Busch Stadium.

In the Central, division leader Chicago Cubs got a slight bump to…

They’re still saying Chicago Cubs can win World Series

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgBecause of the fact that I have family in Chicago, I see to it that I don’t dog the city that much and just focus on the sick fucks from Miami.

But since they are making these BOLD statements yet again, merely weeks before the 2008 MLB baseball season kicks off, I’m sorry Chicago but I have to make a fool out of ya’ fools now.

In case you missed it, Ryan Dempster claimed that the Chicago Cubs, now celebrating the 100th anniversary of their last World Series title, will be ending their 100-year title-drought in the coming season. He claims 100 is the perfect number that will motivate the Cubs to finally win it all this time around.

Chicago CubsOf course, we say, this is perfectly bogus. I mean, what in God’s name made you think the Chicago Cubs will not choke this time? Sure, the team probably made believers out of some of us last season but with the way this franchise has performed through the past few years, expecting the 2008 MLB World Series title from these guys is just you being naïve.

Still, Ryan Dempster believes the Cubs’ 100-year drought will end. Read on people. Read on.

‘’I think we’re going to win the World Series, I really do. I wouldn’t come here and worked as hard as I did, and everyone worked as hard as they did, to not believe that.'’

‘’I think it’s funny when people make predictions or they say…'’

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban to own the Chicago Cubs?

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgHell, the guy will probably buy Britney’s ass too if she was selling it.

Yep, heading to the brand new 2007-08 NBA basketball season, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has his eyes on a pathetic team like the Chicago Cubs instead of trying to improve his Mavericks franchise, a team shockingly eliminated as early as the first round from last season’s playoffs.

Hell, the guy, with all his cash, can buy goddamn Kevin Garnett or even a LeBron James, instead, he wants to shift gears and buy the Chicago Cubs. Oh yeah, the Cubs just got eliminated from the 2007 MLB playoffs. Hee hee… What a complete waste of human life.

Mark CubanSo if Mark Cuban buys the Chicago Cubs, will he seat near the field like what the guy’s doing, hollering his ass from courtside in a Mavericks game? He tells that’s not the case, but coming from a guy like Cuban, who cares really?

‘’Everybody thinks I’m going to be on the sidelines, in the dugout, jumping up and down. That’s not where I’ll be,'’ Mark Cuban said.

‘’When I went to the Cubs game a couple weeks ago, I sat in the bleachers, and I’ll have a seat marked out for me and my friends. We’ll be out in the right-field bleachers, that’s the best place to watch a game.'’

Now, all ya’ll Chicago fans can punch Cuban in the face and…

White Sox take on the Cubs in a battle for Chicago

By: J.J. Jack

As of press time, both teams from the Windy City are getting the wind knocked out of them.

Yep, both teams are struggling at this point of the 2007 MLB baseball season. The Chicago White Sox are currently the second worst team in the American League Central while the Cubs are also not doing well themselves, hovering below the .500 mark and are about eight games behind NL Central division leaders, Milwaukee Brewers.

The Chicago White Sox will meet the Cubs for a three-game season series starting Friday. The White Sox have lost seven of their last ten games, dropping their last two to the Florida Marlins to lose that three-game affair.

chicago_whitesox.jpgThose back-to-back disappointments dropped the White Sox to a dismal 29-39 mark. They are about 16 games behind AL Central division leaders Cleveland Indians and when you’re behind a team like the Indians THAT much, something is definitely terribly wrong.

As for the Chicago Cubs, they will come in to White Sox country at the U.S. Cellular Field barely holding on to that No.2 spot in the somewhat pathetic NL Central division. They are still more than a few games below the .500 mark but with them being on the same group with teams that, quite frankly, suck as bad as they do, they have an opportunity to get an advantage with a win over…

Sammy Sosa hits home run 600 in 2007 MLB Season

By: J.J. Jack

FINALLY, we can talk about home runs without mentioning the name Bonds, Barry.

As Barry Bonds (DAMMIT… There it is again…) closes in on Hank Aaron’s record, Sammy Sosa joined MLB baseball’s 600 club after hitting his 600th career home run on his former team. Funny how that works out eh?

Sammy Sosa, after the Chicago Cubs sent his steroid-powered ass (you never really know right?..) to exile for one whole year, got his second crack at baseball when he was signed by the Texas Rangers. When he saw his former Chicago Cubs teammates on the diamond, he figured what better to have revenge on his former team than hitting the 600th home run of his career.

sammy_sosa.jpgAnd so he did. All of a sudden, Sammy is SLAMMING SAMMY again.

After driving a 1-2 pitch to right-center for a solo shot in the fifth inning of a 7-3 victory for the Texas Rangers, SLAMMING SAMMY bounced out of the batter’s box with his trademark hop and thrust his right fist into the air before reaching first base. He was mobbed at home plate by his teammates while the scoreboard showed pictures of all five members of the elite club.

Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Barry Bonds and now, Sammy Sosa.

‘’It was something that cannot be explained,'’ Sammy Sosa said. ‘’Getting my 600th against the Chicago Cubs, and my first team…'’

Is Chicago being screwed by the NFL through Tank Johnson and MLB Baseball through Lou Piniella?

By: Syndicate

Too many penalties.

That’s what the city of Chicago has been experiencing with the major sports leagues in North America since their beloved Chicago Bulls were bitch-slapped by the Detroit Pistons in the 2007 NBA Playoffs after six games.

Tank Johnson of the Super Bowl XLI runner-up Chicago Bears, WILL MISS eight games of the coming 2007 NFL Season, (that’s already HALF of the NFL football year…) for his guilty plea to a weapons charge that resulted when unregistered firearms turned up in his Gurnee home during a police raid last December.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell lou_piniella.jpgsuspended Johnson for HALF of the 2007 NFL Season after the NFL player got his hands on some firearms again despite being on probation for yet another weapons offense. Jeez… I guess dumb fucks like him NEVER LEARN eh?

And mind you, this is after Tank Johnson completed a 60-day sentence in Cook County jail for violating that very same probation. Sheesh…

Tank Johnson and the rest of the Chicago Bears organization can hope for the…

Are the Chicago Cubs cursed in MLB Baseball?

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgLou Piniella was supposed to be the answer to all the troubles surrounding the Chicago Cubs.

But after a couple of games and a fresh start to the 2007 MLB baseball season, lo and behold, the Chicago Cubs still suck. Hell, they lost their first three games and have stumbled coming out of the gates with a miserable 4-7 start.

And to think they actually thought Lou Piniella was the answer. He he… Well, for what it’s worth, Cubs team manager Lou Piniella is now a true Cubs manager, and when we talk about Cubs managers, these are people who have mastered the art of losing.

chicago_cubs.jpgThey don’t have to like it but man, if you lose THIS much, you’ll get used to it eventually. Piniella has, and it’s really taking its toll on the old man. Hell, he finally snapped on his second weekend with this godforsaken MLB baseball team (If you can still call ‘em that…). On a day when his ace, Carlos Zambrano, couldn’t hold the 5-0 lead he took to the mound in the fifth inning, Piniella was asked by a reporter what wasn’t working for his team.

‘’What the hell do you think isn’t working?'’ Piniella shouted. ‘’You see the damn game.'’

Piniella made a comment about the same team he got from Dusty Baker, a guy who felt what it’s like to lose a whopping 96 games last season. ‘’I can start to see some of the ways this team has lost ballgames,'’ Piniella said. ‘’I can see it. We have to…'’

MLB Futures: Cubs Still Destined to Suffer

By: J.J. Jack

2003-10-15-fan-inside.jpgThe long-suffering Chicago Cubs fans were filled with more ire as their crosstown rivals the White Sox finally won a championship this year. However, Cubs fans did see some hope in what is apparently Major League Baseball’s underdog era as we’ve seen with the Chicago White Sox winning this year and the Boston Red Sox last year. Well, not so fast. According to BetCRIS, the odds on the Chicago Cubs ending their 97-year championship drought before other deserving sad sacks is only 3.2 to 1. The favorites are last year’s runner-up the Houston Astros with a 1.8 to 1 chance of winning a World Series sooner than the others. Full list, after the colon: WHICH TEAM OF THE CURRENT TOP 5 LONGEST DROUGHTS WILL WIN THEIR NEXT WORLD SERIES? CHICAGO CUBS ? 1908, 97 YEARS
