New York Yankees V Chicago White Sox on Monday

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThere’s absolutely wrong with you if you prefer to watch this than the huge game between the Cowboys and the Eagles on Monday night.

But in case you are, you must still be one of them remaining Yankees fans hoping that the Bronx bombers will be able to turn it around and finish strong in the 2008 MLB baseball season because quite frankly, watching Oprah Winfrey fart is more entertaining than watching this year’s Yankees screw with each other’s balls on that diamond.

With just over two weeks left in the season, the New York Yankees are still searching for answers on what seems to be a disappointing year for them in the American League East.

The Yankees have a 78-70 New York Yankeeswin-loss slate and if things continue to go downwards, they might not make it in the 2008 MLB baseball playoffs. Wow huh? Despite having one of the more talented (and expensive) rosters in the league, the Yankees just can’t seem to put it together this year.

On Monday night, they do battle with the American League Central leader Chicago White Sox. Unlike the Yankees, these guys have a remarkable 81-65 mark and I won’t be surprised if Chicago slaps the crap out of the Yankees in New York.

Chicago White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper has been juggling his rotation every way he can so that it lines up how the club…

American League heats up 2008 MLB Baseball Season

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgBecause with the NBA Finals almost over and with football still a few months away, we won’t have much of a choice but to watch baseball.

He he… Yes, with virtually nothing on TV after the NBA Finals conclude, ya’ll probably won’t have much of a choice but to start watching the ever so exciting, (we use the term ‘exciting’ ever so slightly here…) 2008 MLB baseball season.

On that note, let’s take a quick look on what’s been going on around the diamond lately shall we? Hopefully, we’ll find something else to write about other than Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and a whole lot of steroids syringes.

And of course, like last season, Boston Red Soxeverybody’s still so fixated on the American League compared to the National League. While NBA fans favor the Western conference more than the East, baseball has this one.

Defending champions Boston Red Sox lead the pack from the American League East while the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Angels lead the Central and West divisions respectively.

Boston Red Sox are still coming out strong after winning the MLB World Series last season. They have a 43-28 win-loss record, with a decent 7-3 showing in their last 10 games.

In the Central division, the Chicago White Sox, with a 38-30 win-loss mark…

White Sox take on the Cubs in a battle for Chicago

By: J.J. Jack

As of press time, both teams from the Windy City are getting the wind knocked out of them.

Yep, both teams are struggling at this point of the 2007 MLB baseball season. The Chicago White Sox are currently the second worst team in the American League Central while the Cubs are also not doing well themselves, hovering below the .500 mark and are about eight games behind NL Central division leaders, Milwaukee Brewers.

The Chicago White Sox will meet the Cubs for a three-game season series starting Friday. The White Sox have lost seven of their last ten games, dropping their last two to the Florida Marlins to lose that three-game affair.

chicago_whitesox.jpgThose back-to-back disappointments dropped the White Sox to a dismal 29-39 mark. They are about 16 games behind AL Central division leaders Cleveland Indians and when you’re behind a team like the Indians THAT much, something is definitely terribly wrong.

As for the Chicago Cubs, they will come in to White Sox country at the U.S. Cellular Field barely holding on to that No.2 spot in the somewhat pathetic NL Central division. They are still more than a few games below the .500 mark but with them being on the same group with teams that, quite frankly, suck as bad as they do, they have an opportunity to get an advantage with a win over…

MLB Baseball Champs Humiliate the Detroit Tigers

By: J.J. Jack

Ohmigod. There’s nothing nice about this humiliation.

The first out of the home fifth was scored 5-7-3. Do you even want to know how the rest of it went?

A Comerica Park crowd of 41,565 witnessed an MLB Baseball game that ended long before the seventh inning stretch, a 10-0 dud on Thursday afternoon that brought the visiting Chicago White Sox to within 5 ½ games of the division-leading Detroit Tigers.

Chicago socked three home runs, including two by Jermaine Dye. Jon Garland (15-4) pitched a complete-game shutout. But the most memorable event on a forgettable afternoon came after Sean Casey, the popular first baseman, thought third baseman Joe Crede had snared his fifth-inning line drive.

And Casey was not alone. His manager, Jim Leyland, thought Crede had caught it, too. So did Ron Kulpa, the first-base umpire.

The ball had, instead, grazed Crede’s glove at third and sailed into left field. Thinking the ball had been caught, Casey stopped running. He took off his helmet. He stood, stunned, a few steps outside the batter’s box. Then he heard the crowd. He took another look, saw leftfielder Pablo Ozuna field the ball, not a pleasant discovery, and took off for first.

Casey, perhaps the team’s most valuable hitter since his…

The Day Chicago HUMBLED Detroit in MLB Baseball

By: J.J. Jack

The past few months saw Chicago and Detroit in the same sentence in sports articles.

Of course, it all started when Ben Wallace, the epicenter of the Detroit Pistons defense the past few years, decided to start anew with the Chicago Bulls. Yup, Big Ben won’t be wearing the famous no.3 for the Pistons in the coming NBA Basketball season.

In MLB Baseball, it’s no different as the defending MLB Baseball World Series champions, the Chicago White Sox, and the surprising Detroit Tigers, are facing-off for the Central Division lead in the American League.

Detroit has the lead now but just a couple of days ago, something happened that others are already calling the start of a ‘’Detroit Tigers collapse.'’

Freddy Garcia won for the first time in six weeks, Alex Cintron drove in three runs and the Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 7-3 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep and move within 5½ games of the AL Central leaders.

A sellout crowd chanted ‘’Sweep! Sweep!'’ as it saw a White Sox team that was a season-high 10 games behind Detroit on Monday win its fourth straight.

The Tigers, still with the best record in the majors, have lost…

MLB Cy Young Award to rookie pitcher?

By: Neo

These are the guys that could win the MLB Baseball Cy Young Awards.

And yes, even the Rookie of the Year Titles. There have been rookie pitchers come up and have success, but not with the extraordinary statistics these guys are throwing around. Make way Roger Clemens and Gregg Maddux.

This seems to  be the year of the rookie pitcher, particularly in the American League. In July, the L.A. Angels’ Jered Weaver became the first rookie in 25 years to win his first seven starts.

Detroit Tigers World Series OddsThe Red Sox’s Jonathan Pepelbon is tied for the league lead in saves, the Tigers’ Justin Verlander is tied for the league lead in wins, and the Twins’ Francisco Liriano leads the league in ERA. In the NL, the Marlins’ Josh Johnson quietly is competing for an ERA crown.

But forget statistical titles — could one of these rookies actually win a Cy Young this season?

Liriano and Papelbon are the only two rookies with legitamate possibilities of winning a Cy Young. Liriano witht he best era for a starter is impressive, but he just seems to for some reason be overshadowed by…

MLB Betting: Sorry, Astros

By: J.J. Jack

PH2005102301296.jpgWe’ll take the blame for that loss. Seriously. We had all intentions of betting on the Chicago White Sox because we’re cheap, but then we received a belated birthday card in the mail from our grandmother(ka-ching) and, well, you know how it goes. Anyway, with a lead and Roy Oswalt on the mound, it should’ve been wrapped up. If you couldn’t win last night’s game for yourselves, you should’ve won it for Patti Biggio. Once again we took the hit, eating both the -178 and the under at 7 which was destroyed by the 5th inning last night. Now, tonight’s game is -135 for the White Sox.

Chopping Lines: Time to Jinx The Astros

By: J.J. Jack

DSC03097-thumb.jpg8:00 p.m. Chicago White Sox at Houston Astros (Chicago leads series 2-0) Best Line: HOU -178, CHI +176 So, this is bad news for all Houston Astros fans since we’re planning on taking your overpriced team tonight. We won with Oswalt the last time, but our LDS and LCS records were pretty dreadful. However, in addition to the Oswalt factor, we love the Craig Biggio factor. After his wife was slapped by an overzealous White Sox fan, we have to think that he’ll knock in 12 runs this evening and slap Piersynski when he crosses home plate. And that should be enough to defeat Jon Garland.

MLB Betting: These Men Could Ruin Your Life

By: J.J. Jack

umpire_crew.jpgWe know the umpires are bound to ruin this series for the Astros. Maybe a blown called third strike, or a questionable foul ball, or perhaps even a misinterpreation of the rules regarding the amount of facial hair legally allowed on one ball club will ultimately stick a flaming trident into the resilient Astros(TOD). But it’s bound to happen. This has become an umpire’s series. Hence, tonight’s game 3 home plate umpire Jerry Layne’s scouting report is worth a look:

"Layne will handle second base in Game One, and take over home plate for Game Three. Layne’s strike zone is inconsistent, and his hot temper has a tendency to turn a bad situation into a disaster.
