MLB Playoffs Odds: Padres, Twins and Tigers aren’t for real

By: Neo

Is playoff redemption in Grady Little’s future?

Will the $200 million version of the Bronx Bombers batter their way to a World Series title? Can St. Louis shake off its near collapse or is another small market champion in the cards?

Questions abound, and the answers will be known when Major League Baseball’s best-of-five division series playoffs end in about two weeks time. The MLB playoffs are easily the hardest of the  three major sports to predict.

Think you got a Yankees-Mets World Series matchup already locked up? Oooppss…. Better review your MLB betting guide first ‘coz you might be in for a huge surprise. To those who have placed bets on the Padres, Twins and Tigers – considered yourselves losers.

I’ll start with the Cardinals vs Padres. Cards three. Jake Peavy will self-destruct and David Wells will simply be too old to pitch strikes. Cardinals’ offense will have its second wind while a tired and banged-up Padres hitters will produce zero offense.

Now to the American League, which has been hailed as exponentially better than the NL since opening day. The first series will be between the two smallest market teams to qualify for the playoffs, the Oakland A’s and the Minnesota Twins.

Lo Duca has plenty of dirt to catch

By: Neo

Everyone are out to get Paul Lo Duca.

Gambling allegations, adultery claims, a former Playboy model wife and misspelled e-mails from a 19-year-old woman have made a perfect tabloid recipe to rip open All-Star catcher Paul Lo Duca’s personal life during his first season in New York.

Paul Lo Duca New Yok Mets World Series OddsOver the years, baseball and other sports have grown more interested in other sins, most of them having to do with illegal drugs, both recreational and performance - enhancing. Betting on MLB baseball is still the mother of all no-nos, but running up big debts to bookies doesn’t seem to rate at all anymore.

I’m not saying that athletes aren’t allowed to make the same dumb mistakes everybody else does. But it is Lo Duca’s personal money so he has all the right in this world on how he’s gonna dispose his…

MLB Cy Young Award to rookie pitcher?

By: Neo

These are the guys that could win the MLB Baseball Cy Young Awards.

And yes, even the Rookie of the Year Titles. There have been rookie pitchers come up and have success, but not with the extraordinary statistics these guys are throwing around. Make way Roger Clemens and Gregg Maddux.

This seems to  be the year of the rookie pitcher, particularly in the American League. In July, the L.A. Angels’ Jered Weaver became the first rookie in 25 years to win his first seven starts.

Detroit Tigers World Series OddsThe Red Sox’s Jonathan Pepelbon is tied for the league lead in saves, the Tigers’ Justin Verlander is tied for the league lead in wins, and the Twins’ Francisco Liriano leads the league in ERA. In the NL, the Marlins’ Josh Johnson quietly is competing for an ERA crown.

But forget statistical titles — could one of these rookies actually win a Cy Young this season?

Liriano and Papelbon are the only two rookies with legitamate possibilities of winning a Cy Young. Liriano witht he best era for a starter is impressive, but he just seems to for some reason be overshadowed by…
