If the Knicks still have plans to sign LeBron James, the New York Jets need to trade Braylon Edwards first

By: Syndicate

And in case you haven’t heard, LeBron James hates Braylon Edwards’ guts.

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James called former Cleveland Browns receiver Braylon Edwards ”childish” for allegedly punching his friend, Edward Givens outside of a Cleveland night club.

Yes, you read it, Braylon Edwards found a way to attract all the media attention without doing anything substantial in the 2009 NFL football season. James said Edwards punched Givens, his friend and a promoter with a Cleveland marketing firm who was working outside the club.

Based on the official report, Givens accused an unidentified man of punching him in the face following an argument at approximately 2:30 a.m. Givens, who is listed as 5-foot-7, 135 pounds on the report, said the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Braylon Edwards hit him with a closed fist. Givens added that he suffered a black eye and cut and was later treated at a nearby hospital.

lebron_jamesBrowns coach Eric Mangini was aware of the alleged altercation and said he spoke with Edwards. ”Personal conduct is very important to me,” said Mangini, who has drawn criticism for fining players this season for breaking team rules.

”I always want our players to put themselves in the most positive positions. This is something I will continue to gather information on.”

Edwards, has been a major problem for the Cleveland Browns in the past. While recovering from a foot injury, he cut his heel running in his socks after practice. Last year, he was pulled over in his Bentley for driving…

Allen Iverson is starting to complain in Memphis

By: J.J. Jack

We knew this one was coming.

After all kinds of hoopla concerning Iverson’s move from Detroit to Memphis this 2009 NBA basketball season, A.I. Found out that he’s still coming off the bench, the very thing that led to his divorce with the Pitsons.

You read it, Allen Iverson, at least for the first weeks of the season, is still relegated to a bench warmer after refusing to come off the bench last season for Detroit and as far as A.I. is concerned, he ain’t happy.

According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Allen Iverson voiced out his displeasure with his nonstarting role with the Memphis Grizzlies, saying that he’s ”not a sixth man.” Iverson also said, ”I had no problems [with the hamstring]. I had a problem with my butt sitting on that bench for so long.”

allen_iverson”I’m not a bench player. I’m not a sixth man,” he continued. ”Look at my resume and that’ll show I’m not a sixth man. I don’t think it has anything to do with me being selfish. It’s just who I am. I don’t want to change what gave me all the success that I’ve had since I’ve been in this league. I’m not a sixth man. And that’s that.”

Haven’t we heard that when he was playing for the Detroit Pistons last year?

Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins has made it clear that Iverson is STILL…

Who will challenge the Los Angeles Lakers in the West?

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgSportsCenter will be a little busy in a few days.

Because in case you didn’t know, the 2009 NBA basketball season is here. And since we already have the NFL season underway and the MLB playoffs starting to heat up, it’s certainly nice to be a sports fan at this time of the year.

And as far as the NBA season is concerned, the Los Angeles Lakers will try to defend Kobe’s first ever title without Shaq, hoping that last June’s successful run to the title will be the first of successive championship seasons. After all, teams coached by Phil Jackson are known to win titles by threes. But do they have enough this season to win it all again?

With the departure of Trevor Ariza, mercurial stalwart Ron Artest should quickly fill that hole. At this point of his career, Artest just wants to win a title so los_angeles_lakershopefully, he won’t be a distraction to this Lakers team like he once was with the last few teams that he played for.

Back to back titles would virtually be a wrap if the Lakers could get steadier production from big guys Andrew Bynum and Josh Powell. The team’s Jekyll and Hyde play is still a concern but as long as Kobe Bryant keeps this team together, they will still be in the position to win a world title.

If there’s one team that can challenge the Lakers this season, it would have to be the very team they played in the conference finals last season, the Denver Nuggets. After acquiring a true floor leader in Chauncey Billups, the Nuggets tied their franchise record of 54 regular season victories back in the 2008-09.

Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony will continue to…

Can the Raptors get back on track against the Pistons?

By: J.J. Jack

And here we thought the Raptors are really gonna be good this year.

After a smashing start to the 2009 NBA basketball season, the Raptors have returned to their usual selves. Yep, after they came up with a huge win over the jacked up Cavaliers in their season opener, they suffered losses to the Grizzlies and the Magic, bringing them back to Earth, wondering if those two losses were the start of yet another cold season in Canada.

The Toronto Raptors kicked off the season in style with a surprising win over a Cleveland Cavaliers team led by LeBron James and the newly acquired Shaquille O’Neal. The Raptors beat that team convincingly, 101-91, making believers out of Canada and probably most of North America.

toronto_raptorsBut losses to the Memphis Grizzlies and the Orlando Magic diffused any momentum they had from their win over the Cavs. They lost in Memphis 115-107 before losing again at home to the Magic, 125-116.

It’s clear that the Raptors need to improve on their defense if they want to beat the visiting Detroit Pistons on Wednesday. Luckily for them, the Pistons are also on a two-game losing skid after winning their season opener at…

2009 NBA Season starts with Celtics and Cavaliers

By: J.J. Jack

Is this the year that LeBron James finally becomes a champion?

That’s what we’ll soon find out as the 2009 NBA basketball season kicks off. And in case you’re not paying attention, the NBA season is kicking off, and it’s kicking off in style, pitting the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers on day numero uno.

That’s right, these two teams in the East will renew their storied rivalry in the season opener and since the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers are two of those teams that has made huge moves during the offseason, they have become two of the hottest commodities in the league right now and watching them play against each other to kick off the season is definitely must-see TV.

pierce_jamesCan Rasheed Wallace help bring the Boston Celtics back in the NBA Finals? Is Shaquille O’Neal the guy who helps LeBron James give the Cleveland Cavaliers their first championship in franchise history? Whichever team wins this Tuesday will give us an idea.

For Boston, Kevin Garnett is back. After some knee problems last season, KG is definitely looking like the Big Ticket…

Allen Iverson is fucking up the Memphis Grizzlies already

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWow, that didn’t take long.

Sports in Tennessee is really taking a blow these days. While the Titans continue to throw the season away in Nashville, the Grizzlies are about to welcome the 2009 NBA basketball season in complete disarray with their biggest acquisition of the offseason singlehandedly fucking up their campaign even before it gets the chance to officially start.

Ah yes, Allen Iverson is injured again, just like the last time he was in Detroit and his last few days back in Denver, Colorado. After all the promises, the rally speeches and the tweets on Twitter, Iverson is really becoming one pathetic letdown already. And did I mention the season hasn’t even started yet?

allen_iversonThe Memphis Grizzlies reported that Allen Iverson will miss three weeks after an MRI revealed a partial tear in his left hamstring. And if Iverson will miss playing time that long, that means his status for the regular season opener against the Pistons is doubtful.

Surprisingly, Iverson is happy about the whole thing. Probably because that’ll let him earn butt-loads of cash sitting on the bench. Hell, he did the exact same thing with…

Why would the Boston Celtics want to keep a Big Baby when they already have a Rasheed Wallace?

By: Syndicate

I absolutely have no idea.

After missing out on the world championship, falling out of the race as early as the second round of the playoffs, the Boston Celtics are reloading coming to the 2009 NBA basketball season, signing free agent Rasheed Wallace to improve their frontline.

Aside from signing Rasheed Wallace, the Celtics have also signed Shelden Williams, making it two solid former North Carolina forwards that should be a force to be reckoned with inside the paint.

With these acquisitions, why would the Boston Celtics still need a 6-9, overweight monstrosity like Glen ”Big Baby” Davis? We all know he won’t be starting ahead of Kevin Garnett anyway and with ‘Sheed here, that’ll cut his minutes down further.

glen_davisSTILL, the Celtics figured Glen Davis was still a necessity, re-signing the power forward to a new deal. It’s reportedly for two years worth $6.3 million, with $3 million due next season.

Go figure.

Many believe that Davis’ value doubled after he performed admirably in the playoffs, filling in for the injured Kevin Garnett. Unfortunately, with Garnett expected to be fully healthy and free agent Rasheed Wallace added to the frontcourt, Davis will return to a reserve role.

He knows it too.

”I feel like my role hasn’t changed a lot,” Davis said. ”I feel like I just have to be ready to go out there and play. If my role is to do whatever I have to do, I’m going to…”

Who will come out of the East to win a game more than what the Orlando Magic came up with in the NBA Finals?

By: Syndicate

Yeah, this season, it’s the East’s turn to have a champion.

I’m more of an East Coast kind of guy, I always find myself rooting for the East in All-Star Games and in the NBA Finals. Coming to the 2009 NBA basketball season, I have this theory that suggests this year is going to be the year of the East. Don’t believe me? Here’s why.

This somewhat weird theory of mine started in ‘04 when the Detroit Pistons won the title and shocked arguably the most talented Los Angeles Lakers team ever assembled with Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant joined then by two other Hall of Famers, Karl Malone and Gary Payton. The Spurs won the title the following year only for the Eastern Conference to win it again when the Miami Heat won their first title in franchise history.

orlando_magicThe following year, ONCE AGAIN (ho-hum…) the Spurs took it only for the East to take it back the following season when the Boston Celtics took the title in six games. In case you haven’t noticed it yet, the NBA championship has been alternating between the Eastern and Western conferences since ‘04 and since the Lakers won it last season, I bet it’ll be another team from the East that’ll be crowned champions come June.

Silly? Not quite. And since the Cleveland Cavaliers arguably made the biggest move of the offseason with the NBA title firmly in mind, this little theory of mine doesn’t sound too silly at all.

The Cavs learned winning 66 games in the regular season doesn’t…

Another Lockout Season in the NBA?

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYes, and looks like the Spurs will be champions again.

Because the last time the NBA went through a lockout season, the San Antonio Spurs earned their first title in franchise history. And while the 2009 NBA basketball season is still a month away, they’re already talking about another strike.

The lead negotiator and spokesman for the NBA referees union said a lockout appears ”imminent and unavoidable” following the latest breakdown in talks.

Lamell McMorris said the officials made tim_donaghyanother $1 million in concessions in their proposal, but believes it’s evident the league is not interested in further discussions. The officials then headed home after spending the last 24 hours meeting in Chicago.

The contract between the NBA and its officials expired Sept. 1 and the sides have been trying to reach a new two-year deal. McMorris said they largely agree on salaries, but the union has balked at the league’s attempt to change retirement benefits.

Without a new deal, replacement officials will be used when preseason play opens Oct. 1. The NBA last began a season without its regular referees in 1995-96, when the caliber of officiating was roundly criticized.

”We’re prepared to be locked out by the NBA but also remain…”

Allen Iverson is Memphis’ new Grizzled Veteran

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgFor Iverson, it’s personal, for the Grizzlies, they’re just hoping they didn’t throw three million dollars away.

That’s how much the Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to pay Allen Iverson for the coming 2009 NBA basketball season. Yes, Iverson will play for the Grizzlies after the 10-time All-Star signed a one-year deal worth $3.1 million in Memphis.

This makes Allen Iverson the biggest name yet ever to spread across a Grizzly uniform since Memphis sent Pau Gasol to the Lakers and back when Shareef Abdur Rahim was playing with the Grizzlies for Vancouver.

allen_iversonOf course, A.I. was more than happy that the Memphis Grizzlies finally gave him an opportunity to redeem himself after the disastrous year he had in Detroit. And since Iverson, despite being a 10-time All-Star and a former league MVP, wasn’t the most sought after free agent this offseason, he definitely has a lot of redeeming to do in the coming season.

”This year for me is so personal,” Allen Iverson said at his introductory news conference.

”It’s basically going to be my rookie season again. It hurts, but I turn the TV on, I read the paper, I listen to some of the things people say about me having the season that I had last year and me losing a step, things like that. They’re trying to put me in a rocking chair already.”

Grizzlies fans welcomed Iverson like a hero. He walked into…
