Tom Brady, Eli Manning, miss Patriots - Giants rematch

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIn what was probably the most anticipated match-up of the preseason, this one turned out to be the most disappointing one.

The 2008-09 NFL football season is upon us and yet some people are still buzzing about the way Super Bowl XLII concluded with the Giants finishing what has been a Cinderella run for the title while denying the Patriots of what would be a record-breaking perfect season.

It was only natural for these football fans to go ga-ga over the idea that the New England Patriots and the New York Giants will be having their rematch this early, even before the brand new season officially starts. Unfortunately, both of the team’s star quarterbacks were unable to play in this highly anticipated rematch. Sad ain’t it?

Eli ManningLast season’s league MVP Tom Brady, despite giving hints that he might actually play this big preseason game, didn’t. This was the fourth preseason game that he already missed (which would be ALL of the Patriots’ preseason games…) because of the injury to his right foot. STILL, he remains confident that he’ll be able to play for his team once the regular season starts. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for that one.

The New York Giants, on the other hand, opted not to play their field general much to the surprise of everyone.

After already losing Osi Umenyiora in these preseason games, Giants…

The Top NFC Teams this 2008-09 NFL Football Season

By: J.J. Jack

The NFC has always played second fiddle to the AFC, but after the Giants shocked the world in Super Bowl XLII, they are second fiddle no more.

You read it, the NFC conference will come in to the 2008-09 NFL football season with a sense of pride, knowing that one of the teams from their faction have went on to become the Super Bowl champions, one of the biggest accomplishments a team can achieve in the world of sports.

That team of course was the New York Giants, coming out of the NFC to beat the team deemed as unbeatable, the New England Patriots, in a shocking upset in Glendale, Arizona. Can another NFC team follow the Giants’ path this season? Can this conference once again show the AFC who truly is better?

New York GiantsOf course, when you talk about the NFC, the New York Giants should still be there on top. They are, after all, the defending Super Bowl champions and they’ll still be champions of football until somebody proves otherwise. Sure, the Giants lost Michael Strahan to retirement, but the maturity Eli Manning has shown should be enough to make another run to the title.

The Dallas Cowboys should be right there with them. They still have a very good Tony Romo - Terrell Owens combo and with them adding another piece, with the signing of Adam ‘’Pacman'’ Jones, the Cowboys have significantly improved an already great defense to go side-by-side with their…

Is Eli Manning the new Madden NFL 2009 cover boy?

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgFirst thing’s first, Vince Young didn’t succumb to the dreaded Madden curse last season after gracing the 2008 cover.

Now that THAT is out of the way, it looks like EA Sports is planning to get somebody who WILL. After all, despite winning Super Bowl XLII and being named Super Bowl MVP, Eli Manning is STILL a guy ‘’most susceptible'’ to either get injured, play like a jackass or screw his team of a title. That is probably why he’s one of the leading candidates to grace the cursed Madden cover next season.

In case you have no idea what this Madden curse is, it’s EA Sports’ annual video game franchise that, more often than not, ‘’fucks up'’ NFL players after becoming the game’s cover boys. It was able to get Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb and Shaun Alexander the past few years.

Eli ManningAnd although it failed to get the young Vince Young (pun intended…) of the Tennessee Titans last season, it looks like the Madden curse will be making a return next season once it gets New York Giants quarterback, Eli, as its cover boy.

Eli Manning, this year’s Super Bowl winner and MVP, becomes a definite possibility.

Until the last game of the NFL regular season, no one would’ve given him any…

Super Bowl XLII is the Most Watched Super Bowl EVER

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThat means, 97.5 million viewers saw the Patriots CHOKE last Sunday. (Ugh…)

‘’Most watched Super Bowl ever.'’ Yes people, THAT title belongs to last Sunday’s epic Super Bowl XLII. Why? Probably because many people wanted to see the Patriots make history to become the very first team in NFL history go 19-0 to win the title. Oh yeah, many people wanted to see the Giants simply crush that dream too.

And as it turned out, it was the latter as the New York Giants crushed Boston as if it was Hiroshima all over again. The Giants ended New England’s pursuit of perfection, handing the Patriots with their first loss to let them finish 18-1 and earning the Super Bowl XLII title. It sure was one Sunday to forget as far as Boston is concerned.

Eli Manning97.5 million viewers saw it, making Super Bowl XLII as the most watched Super Bowl in NFL history. It also became the second most watched TV program EVER, next only to the final episode of ‘’M-A-S-H'’ which drew 106 million viewers back in 1983.

Most of you old farts out there must’ve seen it. Fortunately for me, I didn’t.

Super Bowl XLII also eclipsed the Super Bowl record set in 1996 when the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, drawing 94.08 million viewers. Now I hate to say this but…

Who’ll win Super Bowl XLII? The Patriots or the Giants?

By: J.J. Jack

It’s ON in Glendale, Arizona people and this year, we have the Patriots and the Giants at the Super Bowl.

Of course, you must’ve heard about that one by now. And in case you haven’t, people are buying Super Bowl XLII tickets like crazy to see the STILL perfect New England Patriots play the red hot New York Giants at the biggest stage in all of American football.

The New England Patriots are in pursuit of perfection. They haven’t lost a game this season and this Sunday, they have the opportunity to finish undefeated with a Super Bowl ring.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is playing the best football of his career. He is the NFL Most Valuable Player of the Year after setting a record for most TDs by a quarterback in a single season. He also helped his wideout, Randy Moss, set the record for most TDs in a single season by a wide receiver, surpassing the Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.

And oh yes, Tom Brady also helped the Patriots to have this undefeated mean streak they will be bringing to Glendale.

The New York Giants, on the other hand, are also in pursuit of perfection…

More Super Bowl XLII facts about Patriots and Giants

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgBy now, you’re probably sick and tired of hearing either a Patriots or a Giants reference every single time you take a cigarette break.

Then again, you probably won’t be hearing any of it if you’re working for ‘’Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.'’ Whatever the case may be, every single football fan will be holding on to their Super Bowl XLII tickets until this Sunday, when it’s time to play the biggest game on the gridiron.

And yes, while we wait for that huge football game between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants, we will just bombard all of you with even MORE storylines you probably have already heard the last few days.

Let’s start with the New York Giants, this year’s heavy underdogs. As of press time, they are +11.5 underdogs, meaning the have to avoid losing by more than 11 points if they want to cover the spread and send the people who have money riding on them home happy.

In case you haven’t heard about it by now, the New England Patriots are looking to become the first team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins to finish a full campaign undefeated. They already matched the ‘72 Dolphins’ 16-0 mark and will be looking to become the first…

Giants star Plaxico Burress to play in Super Bowl XLII

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgI just felt the need to bring that up because this dude has been hobbling with an injury all year.

Yes, ALL YEAR people, a chronically sprained right ankle has been bothering the explosive New York Giants wideout. Hell, it has been bothering him so much that the guy opted to miss every single practice the Giants scheduled all season long. Despite that, it didn’t stop him from earning a Super Bowl XLII ticket. How about that?

Crazy huh? Plaxico Burress has been on every list this season, be it on the probable or questionable sort. But surprisingly, Burress STILL became one of the main reasons why the New York Giants will be playing the Patriots at Super Bowl XLII this Sunday. So, the next time somebody tells you to practice in preparation for something, I guess you can now tell him to mind his own business and go suck your dick.

Of course, the New England Patriots will be expecting Plaxico Burress to go all out this Sunday. It will be stupid not to. It’ll be hard to miss him too since he’s a big 6′5′’ target for Giants quarterback Eli Manning this Sunday on that field in Glendale, Arizona.

Hell, the last time Plaxico Burress was on a football field, he became the best football player at Lambeau Field, catching a career-high 11 passes for 154 yards in a shocking 23-20 overtime upset win over the Green Bay Packers to win the 2008 NFC title.

Yup, this dude is a…

In case you didn’t notice, the New York Giants got to Super Bowl XLII without tight end Jeremy Shockey

By: Syndicate

Yes, everybody is talking about him. (Sort of…)

The New York Giants earned their Super Bowl XLII ticket this Sunday to play the New England Patriots without controversial tight end Jeremy Shockey. He he… To tell you frankly, I’m not SHOCKED (pun intended…) by it.

Almost every team has that one guy who destroys the team’s chemistry. The Chicago Bulls had Dennis Rodman, the Philadelphia Eagles had Terrell Owens, McLaren-Mercedes had Fernando Alonso and yes, the New York Giants have Jeremy Shockey.

Jeremy ShockeyIn case you already forgot, Jeremy Shockey was so vocal in his displeasure towards the Giants organization last season. They’ve been losing so much then that he was putting the blame on everybody, even on his coach for crying out loud.

Shockey was more of the same at the beginning of THIS season. The New York Giants, before setting a date with the New England Patriots this Sunday at Super Bowl XLII, had a somewhat slow start and as always, Shockey was quick to put the blame on anyone, ANYONE besides him anyway.

After the Giants tight end went down with…

Redemption for the NY Giants at Super Bowl XLII?

By: J.J. Jack

Yes, REDEMPTION. That word has been overly overused (overly overused?) the past week when talking about them Giants.

And just in case you have no idea why people have been clamoring for Super Bowl XLII tickets the past few days, the New York Giants will be taking on the 18-0 New England Patriots in Glendale, Arizona for the biggest prize in all of American sports. That is of course, the Super Bowl.

And yeah, REDEMPTION has been the keyword, if you will, when talking about the New York Giants and their chances of coming up with a shocking upset victory over the still perfect New England Patriots this Sunday.

New York GiantsFirst, obviously, it could be redemption for New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. Much has been said about his father Archie Manning, during his illustrious career with the New Orleans Saints in the past. Of course, much has been said about his older brother, Peyton Manning too during his run with the Indianapolis Colts in this era.

Eli Manning, on the other hand, has failed to live up to the ‘’Manning'’ name the last couple of seasons, losing time and time again and giving up…

Will Eli Manning win Super Bowl XLII for the Giants?

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgEli Manning. You know him. He’s Peyton’s less decorated sibling. And yes, he’ll be playing for a Super Bowl ring this Sunday.

How about that huh? After all that talk about the New York Giants wasting their draft pick to get him, and all that shit about him being a guy desecrating the Manning name in American football, Eli Manning earned a Super Bowl XLII ticket this season. And now, he’s only a win away from being crowned a world champion.

Honestly, did you ever thought the New York Giants would come this far? After a 0-2 start to the season, who would’ve thought that these Giants will be the road warriors of this year’s playoffs and earn their ticket to the biggest dance in all of North American sports?

New York Giants QB Eli ManningYes, Eli Manning will have the chance to win HIS title after older bro Peyton won his last year. Eli’s Giants will be taking on Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

Sure, it is safe to say that the New York Giants will be creamed for sure, facing a New England Patriots team that has yet to taste defeat in this campaign. But hey, the Giants have been proving everybody wrong all season and they could have the momentum they need to prove everybody wrong for the last time this Sunday.

For what it’s worth, the Patriots are not taking anything for…
