Will media hype destroy Tim Tebow?

By:

He sure is getting all the attention these days.

Tim Tebow is currently the hottest property in sports and he is fast becoming an up-and-comer in Hollywood as well. The New York Jets quarterback is signed to the sports division of leading Hollywood agency CAA, but some fear the Tinseltown-type attention could jeopardize his game and wholesome Christian image.

The NFL sensation was even turned into a superhero “Super Tim” by Marvel Comics last year and has been romantically linked to the likes of Taylor Swift and “Glee” star Dianna Agron heading to the 2012 NFL football season.

All-in-all, Tim Tebow is now considered a “No. 1 get” for Manhattan and LA party planners, insiders told FOX News. But with that, he has become prey for the paparazzi, with the Jets reportedly trying to curb the attention.

“The Jets are trying to limit his endorse – ments and off the field commit – ments to ensure his focus remains on the field. If it becomes distracting, it could affect the team,” an insider told FOXNews.com.

“There is definitely jealously among players if one starts earning too much money off-the-field, and after Tiger Woods, all sponsors and endorsers are increasingly skeptical,” the source alleged.

But another source close to the athlete shot down…

Tim Tebow didn’t come to the Jets to play backup

By:

That means trouble for Mark Sanchez.

Tim Tebow’s love of New York has nothing to do with pastrami and rye, or Times Square, or even Madison Ave.: The real reason Tebow loves New York is because he feels he can beat out Mark Sanchez and become the Jets’ starting quarterback in the 2012 NFL football season.

Yes, Timsanity — and an explosive quarterback controversy — starts now. A major factor in this decision made by Tim Tebow to come to New York over Jacksonville, his hometown, is that he sees a clear path to resuming his career as a starter, sources tell the Daily News.

The New York Jets will start Tebow off in a limited role as the Wildcat quarterback — GM Mike Tannenbaum must have said 20 times that Sanchez is the starter and Tebow is the backup — but what other backup flies cross-country on a private jet, as Tebow did Thursday from Van Nuys, Calif., to Morristown, N.J., only to disembark to an adoring crowd of Tebow-ing fans? (The plane’s tail number? N15QB.)

What other backup quarterback arrives with the guarantee that he will get on the field?

If Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow play like they did last year…

Sean Payton mans up to Saints Bounty Scandal

By:

seth-edward-oneal.jpg

Jeez, what a mess.

In case you didn’t know, the New Orleans Saints have secretly rewarded its players with money for taking out some players from the opposing team. Yup, they wanted to win a Super Bowl bad and that’s exactly what they got, by all means necessary.

But after the rest of the league found out all about it, all the great things the Saints did were virtually erased as the organization heads to the 2012 NFL football season as the team the rest of the league will be gunning for now after this scandal. Yes, the Saints will be the ons with a bounty on their heads now.

New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton released a statement on the team’s website Friday afternoon addressing the team’s bounty scandal. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Payton for a year as part of the penalties the league implemented against the team Wednesday for running a bounty program from 2009-11. Payton’s statement reads:

“I share and fully support the League’s concerns and goals on player safety. It is, and should be paramount. Respecting our great game and the NFL shield is extremely important to me.”

”Our organization will implement all necessary protections and protocols, and I will be more vigilant going forward.”

”I am sorry for what has happened and as head coach…”

Tim Tebow traded to the New York Jets

By:

Ugh.

About eight hours after announcing a trade for Tim Tebow, the Jets actually completed it Wednesday night, ending a surreal day when one of the most popular and polarizing athletes in the country was sent to the NFL’s most prominent city heading towards the 2012 NFL football season.

The New York Jets acquired Tim Tebow, whose unorthodox quarterback style has divided football coaches and executives in the same way his devout Christianity has earned him a fervid following of fans, from the Denver Broncos after a brief but fierce pursuit that was almost derailed by a disagreement over money.

In joining the New York Jets, Tim Tebow becomes the highest-profile backup quarterback in the NFL, a crossover phenomenon who will diversify the team’s offense but whose presence could undermine the incumbent Mark Sanchez, who recently agreed to a lucrative new contract.

Tebow is also a somewhat incongruous fit, an outspoken Christian playing in a city known for its extensive night life and a part of a franchise made famous by the bachelor stylings of Joe Namath and currently known for the profane speeches of its coach, Rex Ryan.

”I think New York is unique; if there’s anyone that can handle it, it’s Tim…”

Peyton Manning will play for the Denver Broncos

By:

And in case you didn’t know, he just killed Tebowmania.

Tebowmania ends. Manningmania begins. The Broncos have exchanged one fascination, fixation, fervor and feeling for another. In one era, out with the other. The Broncos have changed from run to pass, new to old, firestorm to perfect storm. From will to win to way to win. Life just never gets boring with the Broncos. Let’s hope it all works out for them once the 2012 NFL football season gets here.

Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway has persuaded Hall of Fame-in-waiting quarterback Peyton Manning to try to end his career in the same style as Elway did — winning the Super Bowl. The night before Elway was named executive vice president of operations by Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, Elway told me his goal was to hold up the Vince Lombardi Trophy and say: “This one’s for Pat.” Perhaps there will be another one for Pat, John and Peyton.

EFX pulled off the special effects when this morning Manning said to John Elway he would be growing up from a colt to a Bronco. In 1983 Elway refused to play for the old Baltimore Colts, and wound up with the Broncos. In 2012 Manning is released by the Colts, and will wind up up with the Broncos. Weird world.

In the final analysis, Manning chose the potential possibilities of the Denver Broncos over the lure of the Titans of Tennessee, where he played college football and where his wife is from and where family and friends lives, and the attraction of the 49ers of San Francisco, where the promising Super Bowl team probably is missing only a quarterback such as Manning.

But Colorado has a quality of life, and the Broncos have a…

What’ll the Broncos do with Tebow after landing Peyton?

By:

seth-edward-oneal.jpg

Because we all know Denver ain’t big enough for these two stars.

As the Broncos move into the Peyton Manning Era heading to the 2012 NFL football season, their next task is finding a trade partner willing to take 25-year-old quarterback Tim Tebow.

Even though he earned performance escalators by beating Pittsburgh in the playoffs, Tim Tebow has a trade friendly contract. In 2012, his contract is for $1.1 million, in 2013 he’ll earn $1.055 million and 2014, he’ll earn $895,000. If Tebow takes roughly 40 percent of the snaps in 2012, he would make an additional $11.25 million in combined salaries in 2013 and 2014. But only $490,000 in 2012 and $232,500 in 2013 salaries are guaranteed.

Cost-revenue, though, is only one aspect. Tebow is no ordinary quarterback, as football fans in Denver and across the NFL learned last season. The Denver Broncos traded back into the first round of the 2010 draft to pick Tebow, a move that surprised many around the league who had projected Tebow as a second-round pick or lower. Few teams, after watching Tebow’s first two years in Denver, would likely want to give back the value the team first spent to get him. That means the Broncos could be taking a lower-round draft pick to move Tebow.

Tebow showed during his 13 starts in 2011 — 11 in the regular season and two playoff games — that he can have tremendous value to a team. The Broncos wouldn’t have made their remarkable turnaround from 1-4 to 8-8, nor won a wild-card playoff game against Pittsburgh, without him.

And yet, even during the Broncos’ late-season six-game winning streak, Tebow did little to win over die-hard football folks or convince many league executives that he is…

Alex Smith, odd man out as 49ers pursue Manning

By:

seth-edward-oneal.jpg

The Peyton Manning sweepstakes continue to destroy all these relationships these teams have with their quarterbacks.

Well, those who want to have Peyton Manning on their roster for the 2012 NFL football season anyway. First, it was Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos. Lately, it’s been Alex Smith and the San Francisco 49ers.

Yes, Alex Smith, the same quarterback who led the San Francisco 49ers to the NFC championship game last season, is currently looking for a new team as he will be visiting Seattle to talk with the Seahawks this week.

The free agent also is visiting Miami, which like Seattle is searching for a new quarterback after losing out on Peyton Manning. Both teams also are reportedly on the short list for Matt Flynn, the Green Bay backup who turned heads with his record-setting performance New Year’s Day.

The Peyton Manning sweepstakes continue to be more interesting by the day as it now appears to be a three-team showdown for Manning among San Francisco, Denver and Tennessee. However, Alex Smith is more than likely to be headed to another team whether or not the 49ers manage to sign Peyton.

If San Francisco doesn’t sign Manning, the 49ers could try to salvage…

Tennessee Titans to meet with Peyton Manning

By:

seth-edward-oneal.jpg

Forget Dwight Howard, the Peyton Manning watch is where it’s at.

With the new 2012 NFL football season still more than a few months away, a group of Tennessee Titans executives has returned to Nashville with Peyton Manning for a meeting with the free agent on the team’s home turf.

Coach Mike Munchak, general manager Ruston Webster and chief operating officer Mike Reinfeldt landed Wednesday afternoon at Nashville International — not John C. Tune airport as indicated on a flight plan — after flying into Raleigh-Durham Airport to pick up Peyton Manning.

They returned to the team’s headquarters where the Tennessee Titans will try to convince Peyton Manning to sign with Tennessee. Titans owner Bud Adams told WSMV-TV on Tuesday the executives were going to spend the day with Manning.

Munchak, Webster and Reinfeldt had arrived in North Carolina just before 1:30 pm EDT. Manning arrived at the airport riding in the backseat of black Escalade at 1:53 p.m. EDT, boarded the plane and the group headed back to Tennessee.

Manning had been in Raleigh-Durham working out several times at Duke recently. Blue Devils coach David Cutcliffe was his offensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee.

The owner has said he will do whatever it takes to sign Manning…

Should the Broncos give up on Tebow for Manning?

By:

As far as I’m concerned, they shouldn’t.

But I’m not running the Denver Broncos, and as far as those fucks are concerned, more specifically John Elway, the Broncos management would be more than willing to pull the plug on Tebow and virtually kill Tebowmania just to land Peyton Manning for the 2012 NFL football season.

This is a huge gamble for the Denver Broncos since they are not even sure that the Peyton Manning they want is the still Peyton Manning who lorded over the rest of the AFC for years.

Let’s face it, Peyton Manning is hurt and old. Should the Broncos really give up on a guy like Tim Tebow with the potential to become one of the greatest quarterbacks the sport has ever seen for a guy who they are not even sure if he can still be that guy who tore through the league with his crisp passing and his irritating audibles?

The fact that the Denver Broncos hinted on letting Tim Tebow go for Peyton Manning marks the end of this love affair between the team and the University of Florida product.

Yes people, without taking a snap for the Broncos…

Broncos want Peyton Manning, could trade Tim Tebow

By:

Now that is quite an interesting development right there.

It looks like we have quite an intriguing 2012 NFL football season on our hands if Peyton Manning decides to sign with the Denver Broncos.

Yes, apparently, the Denver Broncos is the top team among the other teams in the league that Peyton Manning wants to play for.

That means, if the Broncos do get No.18, then they would have to part ways with Tim Tebow, because Denver ain’t big enough for these two quarterbacks.

Getting rid of Tim Tebow if the Denver Broncos manage to sign Peyton Manning is a very likely possibility, according to a source.

One website cited an unidentified source ”with knowledge of the dynamics in Denver” claiming that if the Broncos land Manning, Tim Tebow most likely will be gone.

However, there is no chance that the Denver Broncos would simply release Tebow, according to the website. One of the teams looking to acquire Tebow is the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tebow, 24, would remain the Broncos starter if Manning decides to sign with another team. In his second season, Tebow led the Broncos to an AFC West Division title…
