Cardinals test 49ers coach on Monday Night Football

By: J.J. Jack

Because quite frankly, that’s probably the only thing you can look forward to in this ho-hum Monday night game.

Week 10 of the 2008-09 NFL football season continues at the University of Phoenix Stadium where the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers meet on Monday Night Football.

Why is it such a ho-hum game? Let’s start with the Arizona Cardinals. Sure, they are leading the NFC West with a solid 5-3 mark but because the NFC West is probably one of the worst divisions in football right now, nobody seems to care what the Cardinals have done.

The San Francisco 49ers on the Kurt Warnerother hand, are in the middle of a three-way tie for second place behind these Cardinals. But with a poor 2-6 start, how can the Niners be tied for second best? EASY. All of them other than the Cardinals are at 2-6, making this division one of the worst ones in professional sports.

Thankfully, it’s Monday Night Football, the only day of the week when you’ll only have one football game on TV. So I guess people will still watch this one anyway, even if they know they might just sleep through the whole thing.

For the Niners, this will be a test to their new head…

OK, when will Kyle Orton return to the Chicago Bears lineup and keep Rex Grossman off the field?

By: Syndicate

That’s right, Chicago’s quarterback problems continue.

Although the Chicago Bears are sitting comfortably at the top of the NFC North after nine weeks into the 2008-09 NFL football season, their problems behind center went from bad to worse.

In case you didn’t know, the Chicago Bears lost starting quarterback Kyle Orton in the final minute of the very first half in Sunday’s 27-23 win over Detroit. And as if Orton trying to hide his failure as a legitimate NFL starting quarterback was bad enough, the Bears had to turn to former starting QB Rex Grossman, a guy who plays eerily similar to Orton in a good day but sucks like a Las Vegas whore in a bad one.

For what it’s worth, Rex Grossman did lead his team to a win over the winless Lions. ‘’Sexy Rexy'’ Kyle Ortoncompleted 9 of 19 passes for 58 yards and a touchdown. Of course, he had his trademark one interception during that contest but hey, a win’s a win and the Bears will take it.

The problem is, the Bears have the undefeated Tennessee Titans visiting them at Soldier Field this Sunday and I’d be surprised if Grossman would still be able to lead the Bears over that ridiculously talented team.

‘’It’s an ankle injury. That’s about all I’m going to tell you right now,'’ Bears head coach Lovie Smith said of Orton’s injury.

Tests the Bears have taken imply that Kyle Orton could be out for a while. That means Grossman would have to pick up the slack until he gets back and all the Bears, including their fans, can do at this point is hope that Grossman doesn’t fuck it up that…

OKAY, the Presidential Elections are over. Time to talk about what really matters in America. Football.

Week 10 of the 2008-09 NFL football season starts early this week because starting this November 6, football comes early every Thursday night until the second to the last week of the season. And after nine weeks of football, we learned that Rex Grossman can still throw it perfectly on a good day, no one can still figure out this Titans perfection thing and Byron Leftwich can still play in the NFL. How about that?

And in case you missed the first paragraph, YES, Week 10 starts on a Thursday night with the Denver Broncos visiting the Cleveland Browns. These two teams have been struggling lately. The Browns have become the second worst team in the AFC North at 3-5 while the Broncos, even with a dismal 4-4 stand, are lucky enough to still lead an abysmal AFC West group that features the 3-5 Chargers, the 2-6 Raiders and the 1-7 Chiefs. Egad.

Jay CutlerAnd just because the Browns may have given up on this season already when they elected to start Brady Quinn, we’re picking the Denver Broncos by three.

Next, the St. Louis Rams will try to regain some momentum after giving their new coach a couple of wins only to lose the next two games when they face the New York Jets. Having won two of three games under coach Jim Haslett, another victory would…

The Browns have finally given up, will start Brady Quinn

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgAt 3-5, the Browns are probably calling it quits.

Already a full three games behind AFC North leaders Pittsburgh Steelers this 2008-09 NFL football season, the Browns are probably quitting after only nine weeks of football.

The Cleveland Browns know that they have to win at least six of their last eight games to make it to the playoffs and since the Steelers continue to close Cleveland’s window of opportunity with every single game Pittsburgh wins, a playoff stint could be next to an impossibility at this point.

That’s probably why they are looking to bench starter Derek Anderson for the young Brady Quinn. Anderson was completing less than 50 percent of his passes for a 3-5 team that is now a long shot of even making it as a Wild Card team and without anything to lose at this point, these guys feel that Brady Quinnit’s about time they find out why they drafted Quinn in the first place last season.

A star back in Notre Dame, Brady Quinn didn’t play in his rookie year until the final game of the 2007 season. He came in for one drive where he went 3-of-8 for 45 yards and had a TD pass dropped by tight end Kellen Winslow.

He will probably be starting for the first time this Thursday when the Browns host the struggling Denver Broncos. A perfect time to test the young quarterback against a team that lost three in a row? YOU BET.

The problem Brady Quinn would have to face is whether…

Can the Washington Redskins break the Steel Curtain?

By: J.J. Jack

They have to, that is if they still have plans to keep pace with the surging G-Men from New York City.

Ah, the NFC East. After eight weeks into the 2008-09 NFL football season, that division is still arguably the best division in football today. From first to last, all four teams in this division are all legitimate title contenders and at this point, there’s only one way to go to survive there, simply be better than the rest.

As of press time, the Washington Redskins are the second best team in the NFC East, behind only to the defending Super Bowl champions, New York Giants. The Redskins hold a one-game advantage over the 5-3 Eagles while their rivals from Dallas are still in contention at 5-4.

And thanks to division rivals Jason CampbellPhilly and Dallas stumbling somewhat lately, the Washington Redskins managed to pad their lead further over the aforementioned teams, thanks primarily to the two-game winning streak they managed to ride on after beating the 3-5 Browns and the still winless Lions.

Unfortunately, the level of competition will go up a notch with the Pittsburgh Steelers about to test the mettle of this team on Monday Night Football. The West Coast offense has done wonders for this Redskins team so far and…

Cowboys CB Adam ‘’Pacman'’ Jones is an Alcoholic

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgAnd that got him out of the NFL again.

After looking like Adam ‘’Pacman'’ Jones may have finally been able to salvage his NFL career after the Cowboys gave him another opportunity to play when they signed him up for the 2008-09 NFL football season, he found a way to fuck it all up again.

In case you haven’t heard, Adam ‘’Pacman'’ Jones is once again suspended indefinitely. It all started when he figured getting involved in a fight with his own bodyguard was cool. Now that the league figured the guy has an alcohol problem, I don’t know if Jones will be able to play in the NFL again.

At least TNA Wrestling could Adam Pacman Jonesstill be open to have the former Titan, now former corner for the Dallas Cowboys again. After all, having him stand inside the ring without doing a single wrestling maneuver whatsoever worked for them last time anyway.

Only six weeks after being reinstated from a 17-month suspension because of repeated legal problems, (that’s when he decided to go wrestle for TNA…) Jones was involved in an alcohol-related scuffle last October 7 with one of his bodyguards at a private party in Dallas.

That’s despite the Cowboys organization’s attempts to keep the cornerback out of trouble. The Cowboys hired bodyguards to keep Pacman Jones in…

Happy Halloween people!

Now that THAT is out of the way, the 2008-09 NFL football season continues this Sunday with Week 9. And after eight weeks into the season, we learned that the Brees can be strong in England, the Bengals can’t do anything right and the Titans, yes, the Titans, could be for real.

But before we jump on the Titans bandwagon, there are still quite a few teams other than Tennessee surprising us every single week. Like the Buffalo Bills, despite losing to the Dolphins last week, STILL lead the AFC East at 5-2. Can the Bills win the division? They host New York Jets in a key divisional match up Sunday. A win here will definitely put them closer from winning the AFC East title.

The New York Jets have already Peyton Manninglost three straight meetings with Buffalo. And although Brett Favre continues to have stellar performances late in his career, the Bills are just too focused to let a team from New York steal a win from them at home.

Buffalo Bills by three.

Next, the Jacksonville Jaguars will look to win their fifth straight win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium. The Jacksonville Jaguars have gone through a somewhat disappointing first half to the season so far, but back-to-back games against teams that are currently winless could help put them back on the right track. They have the 0-7 Lions after the 0-8 Bengals this Sunday and yes…

Titans remain Perfect after beating the Colts 31-21

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYou read it, the Titans, led by Kerry Collins, actually defeated Peyton Manning and his mighty Colts.

In what is turning out to be one weird 2008-09 NFL football season, the Tennessee Titans, after all the struggles they had in the past, are still undefeated at 7-0 after beating the Colts, 31-21, last Monday night.

How about that huh? With starting quarterback Vince Young NOT PLAYING, the Tennessee Titans are still the only undefeated team in the NFL this season with an old fart like Kerry Collins still leading the team, playing like the best quarterback in the business.

And yes, the Indianapolis Colts were Tennessee Titanstheir last victims. With Tennessee already having a three-game advantage in the AFC South, the Titans were able to further pad their lead in the standings, handing their division rivals with their fourth loss of the season.

The Colts were coming into this Monday Night Football game in do or die mode. They knew they have to win this one if they still have aspirations of a sixth straight AFC South title.

Besides, playing even more powerhouse teams from the AFC like the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers after this one can put their situation from bad to worse but after coming up short in Tennessee last Monday night, bad to worse…

Colts face Titans in BIG Monday Night Football game

By: J.J. Jack

It’s probably do or die for the Colts on Monday night.

After six games into the 2008-09 NFL football season, the Colts are no longer one of the most feared teams in the AFC. After playoff appearances including a successful Super Bowl title run, the Colts are just hovering at the .500 mark at 3-3 this year, three games behind the Tennessee Titans who are still undefeated, surprisingly leading the AFC South at 6-0.

What happened to the mighty Indianapolis Colts? It seems they forgot to bring their talent along with them when they decided to move from the RCA Dome to the new Lucas Oil Stadium back in the offseason.

This Monday, they have Peyton Manningthe Tennessee Titans, the only undefeated team in the NFL this season. Lose to these guys and the Colts can very well kiss their hopes for a sixth straight AFC South title good bye.

They have the Patriots and the Steelers next after this huge Monday Night Football game against Tennessee and the Colts know they have to win this one to keep their title hopes, or even their NFL season, alive. Losing to the undefeated Titans, although probably likely at this point, is just NOT an option for these guys.

‘’We’re 3-3,'’ Colts head coach Tony Dungy said. ‘’We’re…'’

The Brees was strong in London as Saints beat Chargers

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThere has to be something with the wind at Wembley Stadium alright that made Drew Brees be that good against the Chargers.

In what was the first game of the 2008-09 NFL football season held at Wembley Stadium, Drew Brees made sure that his Saints wouldn’t regret giving up a home game to play in England last Sunday. After the incredible performance the Saints quarterback came up with, it didn’t matter whether they were home in New Orleans or in London, as long as they got the win to put their team at the .500 mark coming to their bye week.

And yes, Drew Brees sure was on fire behind his center in England, completing 30 of 41 attempts to have 339 yards and three touchdowns. He was perfect, committing no fumbles or interceptions whatsoever while his offensive line gave him all kinds of time inside the pocket, giving up ZERO sacks to the opposing defense.

Drew BreesOf course, the New Orleans Saints won, 37-32 and since Drew Brees was playing his former team, the same team that traded him away after spending five years in San Diego, everybody knew he will have a game like this.

For what it’s worth, Brees’ replacement, if you will, was not that bad as well. San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers went for 341 yards while also coming up with three touchdowns. Rivers and Brees were the top two ranked quarterbacks in the league coming into this game and unfortunately for the young Chargers field general, Wembley Stadium had the BREES blowing just right.

Perhaps Brees was still a little pissed about…
