Who will win the 2008 NHL Playoffs? (As boring as the Stanley Cup finals will be, we have to ask…)

By: Syndicate

Yes, apparently, they’re still playing hockey.

And if the 2008 NHL playoffs started today, the New Jersey Devils and the Detroit Red Wings would have the No.1 seeds in the Eastern and Western Conferences, respectively.

The New Jersey Devils currently have 90 points and will play six of their last 10 games at home. New Jersey is now 42-24-6 and are 1st in the Atlantic. The Devils’ record at home is 22-12-1. On the road, the New Jersey Devils are tough with a record of 20-12-5.

The Devils will play the Philadelphia Flyers if the playoffs started today. New Jersey leads the regular season series versus the Philadelphia Flyers 5 - 1.

In the Western Conference, the Detroit Red Wings have 100 points under their belt. Detroit is 47-20-6, and 1st in the Central Division.

The Red Wings’ home record is 25-9-2. On the road, the Red Wings are 22-11-4. Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk leads the team in assists with 55 and made 28 goals in 72 games that he played.

While Detroit Red Wings left wing (Red Wings left wing?..) Henrik Zetterberg has 36 goals, 42 assists and thus have 78 points in 65 games. Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg will play a vital role in Detroit’s quest to win the…

Peter Forsberg returns to the Colorado Avalanche to play the rest of the 2007-08 NHL Hockey Season

By: Syndicate

Yes, we actually wrote something about hockey.

In case you didn’t know, the 2007-08 NHL hockey season have it’s trading deadline too just like the NBA. And before that league’s deadline passed Monday, the Colorado Avalanche just signed one of their stars back.

Peter Forsberg agreed to a $5 million, one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche to make his return to the team where he won two Stanley Cup titles with before parting ways after the 2004-05 NHL lockout season.

Peter Forsberg‘’There were no hard feelings,'’ Peter Forsberg said of his departure from the Avalanche a few years ago due to salary-cap reasons. ‘’We went our separate ways as good friends.'’

With 19 more games to play in the regular season, the Colorado Avalanche are hoping that Peter Forsberg can help them get back to the playoffs. The Avalanche are currently four points out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

‘’It’s a real good lineup,'’ Forsberg said. ‘’When everyone gets back…'’

Dallas Stars billboards hate the NBA, MLB and NFL

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgWhy? That I don’t know.

Maybe these guys just want to create some kind of buzz around their NHL hockey team, the Dallas Stars, that they’re willing to do basically anything at this point. In this case, HATE on anything.

Yep, the Dallas Stars, probably already doing some serious marketing heading to the 2007-08 NHL hockey season, have this series of billboards that basically jab at the major sporting leagues in America today.

With the controversies and issues surrounding each major sports league these days, the Stars’ marketing group came up with somewhat ‘’nasty'’ advertising campaigns that in a way aims to expose the weaknesses of other major sports leagues, of course, also glorifying the beauty that is Dallas Stars hockey.

dallas_stars.jpgFor instance, the Dallas Stars have this particular billboard that reads, ‘’the only thing our refs shave is the ice.'’ If you’re an analytical kind of guy, you’ll notice that they were referring to the ‘’NBA referee betting scandal‘’ that made NBA commish David Stern piss on his pants a few weeks back.

To make things even funnier, the billboard was posted near the American Airlines Center, home of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks.

Another billboard took a shot at the brand new…

Anaheim Ducks win the 2007 NHL Stanley Cup

By: J.J. Jack

Yep, the Anaheim Ducks are still MIGHTY.

After dropping MIGHTY from their name, the Anaheim Ducks became the MIGHTIEST among the 16 teams that entered the 2007 NHL Playoffs. Yep, Anaheim, after changing their name from the Mighty Ducks to simply… the Ducks, now have a new moniker, 2007 NHL Stanley Cup Champions.

The Anaheim Ducks simply destroyed the Ottawa Senators in front of their own home ice in California, winning 6-2 to win their first ever Stanley Cup trophy in five games.

The Ottawa Senators NEVER stood a chance. Jeezus, the Anaheim Ducks were already anaheim_ducks2.jpgscoring even before the Senators heard the whistle to start Game 5. After Andy McDonald scored the first goal of the game in the first four minutes of play, Rob Niedermayer follows it up in the 17th minute to give the Anaheim Ducks an early 2-0 lead.

The Ottawa Senators had a slight glimmer of hope when Daniel Alfredsson scored in the 11th minute of the 2nd period to keep the Ottawa Senators in the game. When Travis Moen scored for the Ducks to give Anaheim the 3-1 lead, Alfredsson was there again for Ottawa, scoring in the 17th minute to keep the Senators alive and cut Anaheim’s lead to…

Ducks to win 2007 NHL Stanley Cup Wednesday?

By: J.J. Jack

ONE MORE WIN. At least that’s what they are clamoring for in Anaheim, California.

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks will be looking for their first ever Stanley Cup trophy once the 2007 NHL Stanley Cup Finals shift to Anaheim, California for Game 5 with the Ducks leading Ottawa, 3-1.

Yep, it sure looks like another Canadian team will fall in the Stanley Cup Finals and THIS TIME, it’s the Ottawa Senators. Sorry Canadians, I guess you guys just can’t win the big one for a sport you claim to be yours.

anaheim_ducks1.jpgAndy McDonald of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks scored two goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead after Daniel Alfredsson of the Ottawa Senators started things off in the very first stanza of Game 4.

McDonald’s two goals were scored ALMOST in succession, scoring his first in the 10th minute of the second period from an assist by Todd Marchant and Corey Perry before scoring his second in the 11th minute from yet another assist, this time from Rob Niedermayer and Sean O’Donnell.

The Ottawa Senators fought back though before ending the 2nd quarter with Dany Heatley scoring from an assist by Patrick Eaves and Jason Spezza to even things up heading to the…

Who’ll be the 2007 NHL Stanley Cup champions? Sorry Senators but Ducks are halfway there…

By: Syndicate

After it looked like the Ottawa Senators are in for a Cinderella ending to the NHL season, they had to face the Ducks.

When it looked like the Ottawa Senators will finally break that ‘’loser'’ tag they have been carrying all these years, when it looked like the Ottawa Senators are destined to have a fitting end to what has been an unbelievable season, when it looked like the Ottawa Senators will finally bring the Stanley Cup back home to Canada, they fell 0-2 to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

Well, I guess the Senators can look at it this way, the Ducks just held serve. Of course, being down 0-2, what more can you say OTHER than that bullshit?

Back in Game 1, the Ottawa Senators DID looked like that Cinderella team destined for greatness in the 2007 NHL Stanley Cup finals. Well, at least in the first two sessions anyway.

They started Game 1 with a blistering power play goal from Mike Fisher and although the Anaheim Ducks answered to even things up in the first period, the Senators countered with yet another power play goal this time from Wade Redden.

Then, it’s in the final period when things didn’t go the Senators’ way. After leading…

Can Anaheim DUCK the 2003 NHL Stanley Cup Curse?

By: J.J. Jack

At least for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, they’ve already done this before.

Coming to the 2007 NHL Stanley Cup Finals, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks find themselves in a somewhat similar situation when they reached the final playoff series of the NHL season back in 2003.

Veterans Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Samuel Pahlsson and Rob Niedermayer all know what it’s like to be in the Stanley Cup Finals and yep, they still remember what it’s like to be on the losing end of a championship series like this.

You just know they’ll still have that bitter taste of defeat the New Jersey Devils gave them back in the Stanley Cup finals of 2003 when they face the Ottawa Senators to start the seven-game championship series on Monday. These Ducks are hoping they won’t have the same disappointment.

‘’That’s the place every hockey player wants to be, the Stanley Cup Finals,'’ Anaheim Ducks center Samuel Pahlsson said. ‘’I remember last time. We took it all the way to Game 7 and lost (to New Jersey). Standing on the wrong side of the ice, watching the other team celebrate, I definitely don’t want to do that again. I want to…'’

Senators and Ducks meet for 2007 NHL Stanley Cup

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYep, it’s gonna be the Senators and the Ducks.

As much as we want this entire thing to be over, you gotta’ feel happy for Canada for being able to slip yet another Canadian team in the final seven-game series of the stupid NHL season to crown who would be the 2007 Stanley Cup champions.

The Ottawa Senators are ready to bring the Stanley Cup back home to Canada. After becoming the only Canadian team left in the 2007 NHL Playoffs with the exit of the other five, these guys became Canada’s one and only hope for revenge after the disappointments bizarro world had the past few years.

ottawa_senators1.jpgFor those of you keeping score, Canada’s Calgary Flames got to the 2004 Stanley Cup finals only to get their asses kicked in the series’ pivotal Game 7. Last spring, Canada was spit on again when it was time for their Edmonton Oilers to lose a Game 7 of their Stanley Cup championship series.

The Ottawa Senators could be the heroes bizarro world has been looking for. Either that or these guys will just be another Canadian team to get their asses handed to them.

While the Ottawa Senators represent the East, the Anaheim Ducks will represent the West in the 2007 NHL Stanley Cup Finals. The Ducks, after being THAT close from elimination in Game 5, won Game 6 to seal the deal and head to the…

Is it a 2007 Stanley Cup Finals between Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks after the NHL Playoffs?

By: Syndicate

Well… We are HALFWAY there.

We’re done in the NHL Eastern Conference as the Ottawa Senators won it in five games, beating the high-scoring Buffalo Sabres in Game 5, 3-2, to win the seven-game Eastern Conference finals, 4-1. Looks like a Canadian team will finally win the Stanley Cup eh? (Or lose it to Americans yet again…)

Daniel Alfredsson was simply sensational for Ottawa in Game 5. He is captain and the longest serving player for the Senators, and perhaps REALLY wanting to put an end to a decade’s worth of frustration, he scored a clutch shot in overtime to bring the Ottawa Senators to the 2007 Stanley Cup finals for the first time in history.

teemu_selanne.jpgHis goal sealed a 3-2 win over the top-seeded Buffalo Sabres over the weekend, allowing Ottawa to win the Eastern Conference finals in five games.

‘’It’s kind of surreal right now,'’ Ottawa Senators team captain Daniel Alfredsson said. ‘’We worked very hard for this, but you never take anything for granted. We respect Buffalo as a team. I think they’ve had a hell of a year. But I think they ran into us at the wrong time.'’

Meanwhile, in the Western Conference, NOTHING is settled yet. Just when you thought the Anaheim Ducks were on the verge of losing Game 5 that might just lead to the end of their season, they came up with yet another dramatic comeback. (Just like in them Ducks movies…)

Teemu Selanne scored 11:57 into extra time after they stretched the Detroit Red Wings past regulation (thanks to Scott Niedermayer’s deflected shot that flew over Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek…) to lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-1 win and take a commanding…

Detroit - Anaheim Western war in 2007 NHL Playoffs

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThis seven-game Western Conference final series is tied, 1-1.

IT’S ON as the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and the Detroit Red Wings resume what is turning out to be a classic best-of-seven war in the West. The Anaheim Mighty Ducks were able to come up with an upset win over the Red Wings in Detroit, thanks to the Niedermayer brothers in overtime, to even this series 1-1 with Games 3 and 4 to be played in Cali.

Scott Niedermayer scored on a setup from brother Rob Niedermayer at 14:17 of overtime Sunday night to lead their Anaheim Mighty Ducks past the mighty Detroit Red Wings, 4-3. Scott Niedermayer fired a shot from the right circle that flew by Dominik Hasek, dropping him to 15-13 in playoff overtimes in his career. Hasek never saw the shot, which went in off a goalpost.

dominik_hasek.jpg‘’The puck was in, I don’t see too much,'’ Dominik Hasek said. The Ducks made sure Hasek saw plenty of pucks all game, outshooting Detroit, 33-27 overall and 7-2 in overtime.

Detroit Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom knew what went wrong for Detroit back in Game 2. Heck, you don’t need a rocket scientist to figure that one out anyway. The Ducks simply had possession of the puck longer and as a result, Anaheim had MORE SHOTS to the goal. If you have that many shots to the goal, one of ‘em will go in one way or another. And unfortunately for Detroit, it worked perfectly for Anaheim.

‘’They were beating us to pucks, they were hanging onto pucks a lot more in our end and getting pressure on us that way,'’ Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom said.

‘’We haven’t really sustained any pressure in their end five-on-five. When they get the puck they’re making the first outlet pass real quick, and then they go. Most of the time they’re looking to…'’
