2008 NFL Football Week 12 Betting Picks and Tips

By: J.J. Jack

It’s Week 12 and Kerry Collins is still playing like a hotshot quarterback ten years younger than his actual age.

And after 11 weeks into the 2008-09 NFL football season, we learned that Collins is really not that young anymore although he sure plays like the next best thing in football, NFL referees in Pittsburgh can screw sports gamblers of their money and Tony Romo can win Dallas a Cowboys - Redskins rivalry game even with a broken pinkie.

And just like the last few weeks, Week 12 starts early on a Thursday night, with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals getting it on at Heinz Field. The Steelers are somewhat struggling lately with Ben Roethlisberger still favoring his partially separated shoulder. Despite that, the Steelers still managed to win two of their last three and I don’t expect these guys to lose to the Bengals who have lost all but one game this year.

Peyton ManningPittsburgh Steelers by seven.

Next, we have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers facing the winless Detroit Lions. Buccaneers running back Earnest Graham is likely lost for the season following an ankle injury he suffered in the their win over the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday. The loss of Graham is particularly bad timing for the Buccaneers, who released a healthy Michael Bennett last week to make room on the roster to activate Cadillac Williams from the PUP list. STILL, with only the lowly Lions…

Oklahoma Sooners test the Texas Tech Red Raiders

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYou just know we’re in for one HUGE game on the college gridiron.

As the 2008 NCAA college football season goes forward for the final stretch, big games like this one will just keep on coming until the BCS bowl games arrive.

This weekend, the Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-0, 6-0) will look to go 11-0 for the first time, completing quite a brutal stretch with its trip to Norman to face the Oklahoma Sooners (9-1, 5-1).

The No.2 Texas Tech Red Raiders can clinch their first Big 12 South Division title and take another step towards a BCS berth Saturday when they visit the Oklahoma Sooners, a team ranked No.5 in the nation and is also battling for the division crown as well as a spot in the BCS.

Prior to last weekend’s bye, the Oklahoma SoonersRed Raiders won 63-21 at Kansas on Oct.25, defeated then No.1 Texas 39-33 on Michael Crabtree’s last-second touchdown catch on Nov.1 and pounded eighth-ranked Oklahoma State 63-20 the following week.

Graham Harrell has directed coach Mike Leach’s pass-happy offense to a Football Bowl Subdivision-best 433.7 passing yards per game, letting the Red Raiders to land third in scoring at 47.9 points a contest. They’ve gained at least 421 yards in every game and lead the FBS in average total yards at 566.3.

Texas Tech topped 600 yards for the fourth time this season against Oklahoma State, as Harrell threw for 456 yards and six touchdowns.

On the other hand, the Oklahoma Sooners lead the FBS with 51.4 points per…

Why Manny Pacquiao wants Oscar De La Hoya

By: J.J. Jack

Beats me, probably because eating all that duck fetus hasn’t propelled him to global popularity just yet.

I know, I know, all of you who are literally worshiping Manny Pacquiao may have something to say about his ‘’popularity'’ all around the world but as far as I’m concerned, the shit I dump on the toilet is more popular than this third world moron.

And in case you haven’t heard, he just scheduled a bout against arguably the most popular fighter in the world today, ‘’the Golden Boy'’ Oscar De La Hoya, in a fight that rumors claim will be Pacquiao’s retirement match. The problem for Pacquiao is, De La Hoya will beat him so bad, he WILL be pushed into retirement, whether he likes it or not.

That’s on December 6, at the MGM Manny Pacquiao ScandalGrand in Las Vegas, where Manny Pacquiao takes on Oscar De la Hoya. It’s Pacquiao’s debut in the welterweight division as he continues to dodge Juan Manuel Marquez by jumping weight classes after that fucking screw job he pulled over the poor Mexican last March 15.

Despite his underdog status, Pacquiao, for some reason, is undaunted. Either that or that’s just what he wants his remaining fans to think. Sure, he has a ring record of a veteran prizefighter with 52 professional fights, scoring 47 wins, losing three, and drawing two. The problem is, none of his wins impressed me since he has this ridiculous boxing style, if you can call it that, that will make any…

Celtics host Knicks without suspended Kevin Garnett

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgAfter bitch slapping a poor Aussie, Kevin Garnett will be out for his team’s game this Tuesday. Thankfully, it’s against the Knicks.

Scuffles on the court are turning into quite a trend in the first few weeks of the 2008-09 NBA basketball season. After seeing one in Phoenix between the Suns and the Rockets, another scuffle transpired in Milwaukee where the 6′11′’ Garnett hit the flimsy Aussie Andrew Bogut last weekend.

Apparently, the incident happened after Andrew Bogut hit Kevin Garnett while drawing a foul on the fiery veteran. Bogut’s left arm caught KG in the mouth on the way down. Garnett responded with an open-hand swipe, bitch slapping Bogut like a moron.

Of course, the Milwaukee Bucks argued Kevin Garnettthat Bogut’s hit on the Boston Celtics forward was purely unintentional. But since players have already been warned during each team’s annual preseason seminar with NBA officials that players have to be responsible for any contact with their elbows, intentional or not, it was Bogut’s responsibility not to catch Garnett’s mug with his elbow.

And after Bogut got bitch slapped in front of their fans, the Milwaukee Bucks ultimately lost to Boston, 102-97 in overtime. Talk about one long night for the Aussie eh?

The Celtics have the New York Knicks next in Boston and after KG hit Andrew Bogut

Bills V Browns, one team will win Monday Night Football

By: J.J. Jack

Since these two struggling teams are facing each other, yeah, we’re quite sure one of ‘em will win.

Downward spiral. That’s exactly where Buffalo and Cleveland are coming to this huge Monday Night Football game on the 11th week of the 2008-09 NFL football season.

First, we have the Buffalo Bills, a team that was able to have such a roaring start to the season that we already saw people jumping on the Bills’ bandwagon anticipating them to take over the Brady-less AFC East. But after ten weeks, it was New York and its Jets who took over the division while Buffalo plummeted down the standings after losing three straight.

The Cleveland Browns, on the other hand, Trent Edwardswere expected to stir up some noise this year after such a strong finish to the 2007 season. But for some reason, the Browns struggled to get going right from the start of their 2008 campaign. Last season’s Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Anderson has already been shelved as a result for second year player Brady Quinn, but after losing two straight, it looks like even Quinn won’t be able to salvage what’s left of their season.

These two teams will play on Monday Night Football at Ralph Wilson Stadium…

Tony Romo returns on Sunday Night Football

By: J.J. Jack

A return fitting for a superstar.

You read it, after missing the last three games of the 2008-09 NFL football season, Tony Romo will be making his return to the Cowboys lineup, taking over for veteran Brad Johnson who has only been able to lead the team to a 1-2 stand that dropped them dead least in the NFC East.

And since Tony Romo is one of the league’s brightest young superstars, he probably felt that it was only right for him to make his return on primetime, Sunday Night Football, when they resume one of the better rivalries in football with the Washington Redskins.

Talk about being a fan for the dramatic huh? Tony RomoThe question now is, will Romo be able to lead the Dallas Cowboys to a win over one of the hottest teams in the league today.

At 6-3, the Washington Redskins have really put it together since handing this Dallas team its first loss of the season back in Week 4. They are right behind the defending Super Bowl champions Giants for the NFC East lead and as long as that West Coast offense continues to work, the sky’s the limit for this team from the nation’s capital.

For what it’s worth, Romo is confident that his broken pinkie won’t be an issue for this huge Sunday Night Football game. ‘’It’s getting better,'’ Tony Romo said. ‘’Every day it gets a little better and I’m confident that I’ll feel pretty good for the…'’

Jimmie Johnson to win the 2008 NASCAR Chase for the Cup this Sunday at the Ford 400 Miami Speedway

By: Syndicate

And with the 141-point lead this guy has, I’ll be REALLY surprised if he doesn’t have the title at the end of the weekend.

A commanding 141-point lead, that’s what Jimmie Johnson is enjoying coming to the grand finale of the 2008 NASCAR Chase for the Cup this Sunday at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

With that big of a lead, Jimmie Johnson only needs to finish 36th or better to win his third straight NASCAR title. Sure, it ain’t over ’til it’s over but the fact of the matter is, MATHEMATICALLY speaking, it already is.

The only driver probably still in contention Jimmie Johnsonfor the title is Carl Edwards. However, even if Edwards were to win and lead the most laps on Sunday, Edwards will still need Johnson to take himself out of the race to engineer a shocker.

The ten-race ‘’Chase to the Championship'’ is all about consistency, and Jimmie Johnson, once again, showed that no one is better. In the nine races leading up to this weekend’s race, Johnson has three wins, six top 5’s, and eight top 10’s for an average finish of 4.7. That is how you seal the deal people. While Carl Edwards has been impressive as well, he would have had to be nearly perfect to take the hardware away from Johnson.

Johnson will now become only the second driver to win three…

2008 NCAA College Football Week 12 Betting Picks

By: J.J. Jack

Week 12 in college football continues.

You read it, the 12th week of the 2008 NCAA college football season continues this weekend with a whole bunch of good games beginning with the No.1 team of the nation, Alabama.

The Alabama Crimson Tide look to remain perfect and on track for a spot in the BCS title game while trying to avoid a third consecutive loss to visiting Mississippi State Bulldogs this Saturday. A season after finishing 7-6 and second-to-last in the SEC West Division, Alabama (10-0, 6-0) clinched its first division title since 1999 with an emotional 27-21 overtime victory at LSU last Saturday. The win kept the Tide atop the national rankings and BCS standings, ahead of fellow unbeaten Texas Tech.

Alabama will try to avenge losses to Alabama Crimson TideMississippi State (3-6, 1-4) and struggling Auburn, both at home, before facing Florida in the SEC title game Dec.6 in Atlanta. Alabama lost 17-12 at Mississippi State last season after falling 24-16 at home to the Bulldogs in 2006. The Tide has not scored an offensive touchdown in its last three meetings with the Bulldogs, including a 17-0 victory in 2005.

I have a feeling things will be a little different come gameday.

The fourth-ranked Texas Longhorns look to improve their chances of competing for the conference title when they visit the struggling Kansas Jayhawks next. Three straight wins over teams ranked No.11 or better gave Texas (9-1, 5-1) control of its own destiny at the end of October. However, a…

Cincinnati Bearcats meet the Louisville Cardinals in Week 12 of the 2008 College Football Season Friday

By: Syndicate

Yes, Cincinnati. Thankfully, these guys aren’t as bad as their professional counterparts.

The Cincinnati Bearcats have cracked the Top 25 for the first time this 2008 NCAA college football season, thanks to back-to-back victories over ranked opponents, including a thrilling overtime win last weekend.

The Cincinnati Bearcats, now ranked No.22 in the nation, look to protect their ranking and continue their push for their first Big East title when they visit the Louisville Cardinals on Friday night, hoping to snap a five-game losing streak to the high-flying Cards.’

The Bearcats (7-2, 3-1) gave up the final Cincinnati Bearcats23 points in its 40-16 loss to Connecticut in its second conference game of the season last Oct. 25, a finish that didn’t seem to bode well for the Bearcats as they entered the toughest stretch of their schedule. Thankfully, Cincinnati responded with consecutive wins over ranked Big East rivals, defeating then No.24 South Florida 24-10 on Oct.30 before edging then No.20 West Virginia 26-23 in overtime last Saturday.

The Bearcats are definitely contenders, having pulled into a three-way tie for first place in the conference with West Virginia and Pittsburgh. Cincinnati will be challenged by the Louisville Cardinals (5-4, 1-3), a team that has struggled in recent weeks but has been dominant in their series with Cincinnati lately.

Louisville has won nine of the last 10 meetings between the former…

2008 NFL Football Week 11 Betting Picks and Tips

By: J.J. Jack

It’s Week 11 in the NFL and in case you haven’t felt it yet, the playoffs are just around the corner.

Week 11 of the 2008-09 NFL football season starts this Thursday night as teams continue to jockey for position with the playoffs only less than two months away. And after ten weeks into the season, we learned that the Titans continue to surprise themselves, the Bills continue to disappoint their fans, the Giants like to toy with their prey and an old fart like Kurt Warner could be the MVP at the end of the year.

Crazy huh? Guess what, it only gets crazier because Week 11 starts with the New England Patriots. What has been crazy about this team is the fact that they have been able to stay on top of their division playing without starting quarterback Tom Brady and starting running back Laurence Maroney. They have Brett Favre and the surging New York Jets this Thursday night and since the Jets are tied with the Pats for the AFC East lead, this Eric Mangini - Bill Belichick rivalry will resume with the division lead at stake.

Randy Moss and Wes WelkerThe 6-3 New England Patriots earned a key division win Sunday, controlling the clock for nearly 38 minutes and outgaining Buffalo 370-168 en route to a 20-10 victory. Matt Cassel continued to show improvement as Tom Brady’s replacement, completing 23 of 34 passes for 234 yards and running for a touchdown for the second straight week for head coach Bill Belichick. The New York Jets, also at 6-3, have virtually no time to bask in the most-lopsided victory in their history, as they take the field again four days after a 47-3 drubbing of St. Louis. This game against their bitter rivals promises to be much tougher, especially with the winner taking sole possession of the division lead. Of course…
