Yes, the championship is probably determined already.
The 2008 NASCAR Chase for the Nextel Cup is probably over after Jimmie Johnson trounced the field at the Phoenix International Raceway to inch closer to his record-tying third straight NASCAR title.
You read it, Jimmie Johnson, now with 6561 championship points, is on his way for yet another world championship. With the commanding 141-point lead over Carl Edwards, Johnson needs only to finish 36th or better to win it all.
It seems all the changes Jimmie Johnson and his team made worked. Johnson
led a race-high 217 of the 313 laps to stretch his lead over Carl Edwards in the standings from 106 to the commanding 141-point barrier.
‘’He’s doing something pretty special,'’ 2004 champion Kurt Busch said after finishing second. ‘’It’s just tough to beat.'’
Jimmie Johnson was coming into the Phoenix International Raceway on the verge of losing his grip of the title after a rather disappointing 15th place finish in Texas. Thankfully, he rebounded perfectly from…

Because quite frankly, that’s probably the only thing you can look forward to in this ho-hum Monday night game.
Week 10 of the 2008-09 NFL football season continues at the University of Phoenix Stadium where the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers meet on Monday Night Football.
Why is it such a ho-hum game? Let’s start with the Arizona Cardinals. Sure, they are leading the NFC West with a solid 5-3 mark but because the NFC West is probably one of the worst divisions in football right now, nobody seems to care what the Cardinals have done.
The San Francisco 49ers on the
other hand, are in the middle of a three-way tie for second place behind these Cardinals. But with a poor 2-6 start, how can the Niners be tied for second best? EASY. All of them other than the Cardinals are at 2-6, making this division one of the worst ones in professional sports.
Thankfully, it’s Monday Night Football, the only day of the week when you’ll only have one football game on TV. So I guess people will still watch this one anyway, even if they know they might just sleep through the whole thing.
For the Niners, this will be a test to their new head…

CHANGE. Everybody has sure been using that word a lot these days.
But this time, it’s not President-Elect Barack Obama talking about it but Roy Jones Jr., the former heavyweight, former light heavyweight champion of the world. And although he has no plans of ‘’changing'’ the economic situation in the United States from a political seat, he wants CHANGE on Saturday night, that is changing Joe Calzaghe’s STILL unblemished record.
You read it, the former pound-for-pound king is looking to hand Joe Calzaghe the very first loss of his career. Calzaghe has been perfect so far with a 45-0 record, 32 of them coming by way of knockout. To say that Calzaghe has one of the most intimidating records in boxing is now an understatement but for some reason, Roy Jones is not fazed one bit.
The 39-year-old Roy Jones Jr. believes he can CHANGE Calzaghe’s dominant run so far inside the squared circle. ‘’That’s what I’m about,'’ Jones said at a news conference before breaking into a grin. ‘’You better believe, whatever it takes, I’ve got it.'’
Is this just wishful thinking for the guy once known as the best fighter in the world? Calzaghe seems determined to put a stamp on his legacy as a ‘’super power'’ in boxing. Some have already tried stopping this freight train and failed miserably. Last April 19, 2007, Bernard ‘’the Executioner'’ Hopkins did but ended up giving Calzaghe his 45th straight…

We told you you should watch out for the Crimson Tide this season.
And in case you don’t know it yet, the Crimson Tide are now the No.1 team in the nation after 10 weeks into the 2008 NCAA college football season. Can they keep their No.1 spot at the end of this weekend?
The Alabama Crimson Tide will try to clinch the west division title of the Southeastern Conference and a spot in the conference championship game when they battle with the LSU Tigers this Saturday. Oh yeah, as far as that No.1 spot in the BCS Rankings are concerned, you just know they want to keep that one too.
But for Crimson Tide head coach
Nick Saban, it’s just another game. While his successor, LSU Tigers coach Les Miles, may agree with the sentiment, Saban has been adamant in downplaying the impact of his return to ‘’Death Valley'’ in his second year with Alabama. While he did coach a game at LSU while with the Miami Dolphins in 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina, coming back to the campus he led to the 2003 BCS championship as a Crimson Tide coach is expected to produce a hostile reaction among the 92,000-plus LSU fans.
Can LSU, fueled by their fans, beat the No.1 team of the country? I don’t think so.
Next, we have No.2 Texas Tech Red Raiders looking to extend the…

It’s this Friday and being a Piston fan like myself, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the former league MVP finally plays for my team.
And in case you’ve been living under a rock, the Pistons and the Nuggets engineered the first blockbuster trade of the 2008-09 NBA basketball season after the Pistons traded Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess to the Nuggets for Allen Iverson.
And since both Billups and McDyess hasn’t even started taking their physicals yet, Allen Iverson can’t suit up for his new team until they do and complete it since the NBA has this rule that players who were traded between two teams will OFFICIALLY be available for their new teams at the same time.
That means, the Detroit Pistons can’t
take advantage of having a player like Allen Iverson on the court yet until their former players in Denver complete the mandatory physical.
And since Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl already said that their new players will be taking their physicals some time this week, Iverson could be playing for the Pistons in New Jersey against the Nets.
Until then, we will continue to hope that nabbing Iverson was the right way to go for the 313 because if it all explodes on Joe Dumars’ face, letting a guy like Chauncey Billups go would be the worst thing he has done since drafting Darko Milicic right after LeBron…

OKAY, the Presidential Elections are over. Time to talk about what really matters in America. Football.
Week 10 of the 2008-09 NFL football season starts early this week because starting this November 6, football comes early every Thursday night until the second to the last week of the season. And after nine weeks of football, we learned that Rex Grossman can still throw it perfectly on a good day, no one can still figure out this Titans perfection thing and Byron Leftwich can still play in the NFL. How about that?
And in case you missed the first paragraph, YES, Week 10 starts on a Thursday night with the Denver Broncos visiting the Cleveland Browns. These two teams have been struggling lately. The Browns have become the second worst team in the AFC North at 3-5 while the Broncos, even with a dismal 4-4 stand, are lucky enough to still lead an abysmal AFC West group that features the 3-5 Chargers, the 2-6 Raiders and the 1-7 Chiefs. Egad.
And just because the Browns may have given up on this season already when they elected to start Brady Quinn, we’re picking the Denver Broncos by three.
Next, the St. Louis Rams will try to regain some momentum after giving their new coach a couple of wins only to lose the next two games when they face the New York Jets. Having won two of three games under coach Jim Haslett, another victory would…

No, they won’t try to influence anyone to vote for a particular candidate.
What these two teams will try to influence is the BCS standings this 2008 NCAA college football season. For all ya’ll who don’t know yet, Alabama is the new No.1 team in the nation. This Tuesday night, both Miami (OH) and Buffalo will try to jump on in and take advantage of the BCS revolving door.
The Miami Ohio Redhawks, however, are struggling at 2-6 with a poor road record of 1-3 after suffering their worst-ever homecoming defeat, and giving up the most points ever at Yager Stadium in their 54-21 loss to Kent State last Oct. 25.
The RedHawks now find themselves
on the verge of MAC title elimination while pondering how to correct their numerous deficiencies.
Miami had a couple of extra days to figure things out with a 10-day layoff between games before traveling to meet the Buffalo Bulls, currently sitting at the top of the MAC East.
But already ten weeks into the season with answers not readily apparent, it is not likely a couple of extra days between contests will provide much in the way of answers ahead of Miami’s nationally televised, election night game.
The RedHawks will be facing a Buffalo team that has been…

They have to, that is if they still have plans to keep pace with the surging G-Men from New York City.
Ah, the NFC East. After eight weeks into the 2008-09 NFL football season, that division is still arguably the best division in football today. From first to last, all four teams in this division are all legitimate title contenders and at this point, there’s only one way to go to survive there, simply be better than the rest.
As of press time, the Washington Redskins are the second best team in the NFC East, behind only to the defending Super Bowl champions, New York Giants. The Redskins hold a one-game advantage over the 5-3 Eagles while their rivals from Dallas are still in contention at 5-4.
And thanks to division rivals
Philly and Dallas stumbling somewhat lately, the Washington Redskins managed to pad their lead further over the aforementioned teams, thanks primarily to the two-game winning streak they managed to ride on after beating the 3-5 Browns and the still winless Lions.
Unfortunately, the level of competition will go up a notch with the Pittsburgh Steelers about to test the mettle of this team on Monday Night Football. The West Coast offense has done wonders for this Redskins team so far and…

Week 10 continues with probably our favorite team to watch this year, the Crimson Tide.
Yep, out of all the teams to watch this 2008 NCAA college football season, the Alabama Crimson Tide is probably the most interesting one. And as long as Nick Saban, the same guy who bamboozled the Dolphins a few years ago when he shockingly left them for college pigskin, is running things, nothing is always as it seems.
Nick Saban had the Alabama Crimson Tide in excellent shape heading into November last season, having turned the team from an afterthought to an SEC contender in his first year on the job. Saban’s team, though, couldn’t end its struggles in the season’s final month. With a spot in the BCS championship game now within their grasp, the second-ranked Crimson Tide will have considerably higher stakes at play during their slate this November, starting this Saturday with a game against Arkansas State.
Alabama (8-0, 5-0 SEC) was standing at 6-2 and ranked No.17 at the end of last October, an impressive climb in Saban’s first season in Tuscaloosa after he inherited a program coming off a 6-7 finish in 2006. The Crimson Tide lost all four of their games in November, including an ugly 21-14 defeat at home to Louisiana-Monroe, a member of the Sun Belt conference.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves on the other hand, have beaten the only BCS conference opponent they’ve played this season, topping Texas A&M 18-14 in their Aug. 30 season opener. Although the Red Wolves may have trouble stopping the rush…

8-0. That’s where the Longhorns are at.
After nine weeks into the 2008 NCAA college football season, the Texas Longhorns are still undefeated, sitting at the very top of the BCS rankings. They are looking for a BCS national championship game come January and a win against rivals Texas Tech will put them closer from that goal.
The Texas Longhorns have remained undefeated by answering each challenge in a series of games against ranked teams. They have the Texas Tech Red Raiders next, a team that has put together its own unbeaten start, making this rivalry game from Texas something you can’t afford to miss.
The Longhorns are
looking for their fourth straight win over a team ranked 11th or better on Saturday night when they visit the No.6 Texas Tech Red Raiders, who are hoping to protect their highest ranking in 32 years in the second of four consecutive games against Top 25 opponents.
The Longhorns, 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big 12, took over the top spot after defeating then No.1 Oklahoma Sooners on Oct.11. The Longhorns followed that up with a 56-31 victory over then No.11 Missouri Tigers on Oct.18 and a 28-24 win over then No.7 Oklahoma State Cowboys last Saturday, becoming the first team to earn a unanimous No.1 ranking in consecutive weeks since Ohio State…
