Serena Williams Tantrums in Tennis is still Funny

By: J.J. Jack

Losing. Apparently, Serena Williams hates it.

Hell, who doesn’t? Losing always is the thing sports athletes hate the most. But what separates Serena from the rest is how she deals with losing. As was the case in last weekend’s 2008 Wimbledon Championships final against sister Venus.

For all ya’ll who missed it, Venus Williams beat sister Serena, 7-5, 6-4 to become champion of the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships. It was a successful title defense for Venus after winning on these very grounds last year.

Serena WilliamsAnd as soon as Venus realized she won Wimbledon for the second straight year, Serena Williams was there, shouting in despair, letting all her frustrations out, making you wonder if she was really happy for her sister’s success. After all, they still kept it in the family and that was the only thing that should matter right?

Her mother knows how competitive Serena is and losing to her older sister Venus Williams, is not as sweet as people would’ve guessed. ‘’Serena thinks everything is supposed to go her way, that’s the bottom line,'’ said mom AND coach Oracene Price. ‘’She thinks that’s the way it’s supposed to go in life. But this is life.'’

‘’It’s definitely not any easier,'’ Serena Williams said, referring to…

2008 Wimbledon Ends with Two Unlikely Champions

By: J.J. Jack

The third Grand Slam tournament of the tennis season ended with two unlikely winners.

Yes, the 2008 Wimbledon Championships have just concluded with two unlikely winners coming out on top. Rafael Nadal won his very first Grand Slam tournament away from clay after beating world No.1 Roger Federer while Venus Williams defied the odds, beating her younger sister, Serena, to become champion of Wimbledon again.

It was a very busy weekend in England indeed. And for a country dominated by the sport of football, both Nadal and sister Venus made the football-crazed English fans notice the intriguing 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships. Wimbledon is the most grandiose tournament in tennis and after both champions’ heroics, English fans knew why.

2008 Wimbledon ChamionshipsLet’s start with the women’s side of things. Venus Williams was on familiar ground last Saturday, facing younger sister Serena, for a Grand Slam title. Although she did win it last year, she became an unlikely Wimbledon winner over the weekend just because she was facing her younger sister. You see, the last two times Venus faced her sister in 2002 and 2003, she lost. But last Saturday, the fat lady was singing a different tune.

Venus Williams entered the tournament with a 14-7 record in 2008 and…

Venus and Serena Williams in 2008 Wimbledon Final

By: J.J. Jack

From what should look like one epic battle from Jurassic Park, the Williams sisters will relive their sibling rivalry this Saturday.

And for all ya’ll calling me a racist already after reading that first sentence, you’re a jackass. I have nothing against African Americans, it just so happen that the Williams sisters ain’t my type. And as much as I would love to see Maria Sharapova play in the final match of the 2008 Wimbledon Championships, all I could do now is accept the fact that the Williams sisters were simply better at this point of the year.

You read it right, Venus and Serena Williams made it this far to earn a shot at each other hoping to win the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships, as well as the title ‘’daddy’s little girl'’ probably, although both of them are absolutely NOT, in any way, ‘’LITTLE.'’

Venus knows her sister will be up to the challenge come Saturday. Serena Williams, after disposing China’s Zheng Jie, 6-2 7-6 (7/5) definitely has what it takes to beat the four-time Wimbledon champion.

‘’At this point our main focus was obviously both of us getting to the final. Then from there it’s every Williams for themselves,'’ Venus Williams said.

‘’Our goal is just to be healthy. I think if we can be healthy, then we can do well and continue to climb the rankings. Of course we believe we can be on top, but we just have to keep our…'’

Roger Federer - Rafael Nadal match in Wimbledon Final?

By: Seth Edward O'Neal

seth-edward-oneal.jpgThis is as obvious as J.J. Jack being labeled a racist by some idiot every single time he writes about Manny Pacquiao.

The 2008 Wimbledon Championships are about to conclude and while the women’s division already have two gorillas battling it out for the championship, nothing is settled in the men’s side of things yet.

But still, even you can see Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal already on their way to a classic face-off for the men’s title in the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships right? Standing on Federer’s and Nadal’s way are Marat Safin and Rainer Schuettler respectively. Can both guys overcome this Friday?

Roger Federer vs Rafael NadalAs good as Roger Federer has been this year, the guy is just happy to earn a spot in the semi-finals. ‘’I'm just very happy I didn’t have to burn unnecessary energy,'’ Federer said, referring to his somewhat easy quarter-final face-off with Mario Ancic. He’s the only man who has not dropped a set in this year’s Wimbledon.

‘’I was in complete control. I was never really under pressure. I served well. I didn’t have to save a break point. When you go through a match like that, you know you’re…'’

Who will advance to the 2008 Wimbledon Women’s Final? (One thing’s for sure, it won’t be Sharapova…)

By: Syndicate

We’ll find out soon enough.

Because we finally have the four remaining semi-finalists in the 2008 Wimbledon Championships women’s division. The two Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, are hoping to face each other in the championship match but before they do that, they have to beat Elena Dementieva and Jie Zheng in the semi-finals first respectively.

That’s right, we’re in the verge of another ‘’Williams final'’ at the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships. Venus Williams will face Elena Dementieva while sister Serena has Jie Zheng. On paper, I guess a ‘’Williams final'’ is imminent eh? How did these four semi-finalists got here? Read on.

Venus Williams reached the Serena Williams and Venus Williamssemi-finals for the seventh time in the last nine years with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand. Venus, who has won all seven of her career meetings with Tanasugarn, fired eight aces but committed 22 unforced errors and three double faults.

The American still managed to win after suffering a hamstring injury late in the match, limping noticeably down the stretch. ‘’It feels a little bit tight,'’ the 28-year-old Venus Williams said. ‘’I'll be fine. I’m a big girl. I can deal with it.'’

Looking to take advantage of that injury in the semi-finals is Elena Dementieva. She earned the ticket to face Venus after she salvaged a victory against Nadia Petrova, coming up with a 6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-3 win to reach her very first Wimbledon semifinal. Dementieva cruised to a 5-1 lead in the second set before suffering from her errors and double faults that…

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, join Wimbledon Elite Eight

By: J.J. Jack

It’s now down to the final eight.

You read it, the final eight quarter-final spots of the 2008 Wimbledon Championships were finally determined and both Federer and Nadal, the two heavy favorites to win the Wimbledon title, got through.

Rafael Nadal earned his ticket to the final eight after dominating Mikhail Youzhny, 6-3 6-3 6-1, avenging the worst defeat of his career when he suffered an astonishing 6-0 6-1 upset.

Nadal is on his way to a possible third straight final appearance in Roger Federer and Rafael Nadalthe 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships and after quickly dispatching Youzhny in two hours and 10 minutes to advance to the quarter-finals, we can’t see any reason to think otherwise.

The 17th seeded Youzhny traded blows with the 2008 French Open champion from the baseline but Nadal overpowered the Russian with some typically ferocious shots. I guess you can say Nadal thought he was back at Roland Garros playing on a clay surface eh? Hmm… I wonder if Roger Federer was around watching his fiercest rival’s brilliance?

Speaking of, the world No.1 also earned a ticket to the 2008 Wimbledon quarter-finals after an also dominant win over former world No.1 Lleyton Hewitt. Although…

Why Maria Sharapova lost in 2008 Wimbledon

By: J.J. Jack

Her dress. Apparently, that was really the reason.

Coming to the 2008 Wimbledon Championships, many thought Maria Sharapova will at least have a striking chance of defending her title after winning Wimbledon last year.

But after the hot and sexy Maria Sharapova got her sweet little ass eliminated by a virtual unknown, fellow Russian Alla Kudryavtseva, every single fan watching the match were probably second guessing themselves if what they just witnessed actually happened.

That also means we’ll have a newMaria Sharapova champion in England as the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships continue. And even though majority of the male population probably won’t give a rat’s ass about the tournament now that Sharapova is gone, the remaining title hopefuls will still look to continue riding the momentum that got them this far.

I, personally, was planning to keep my eyes glued on tennis but after Ana Ivanovic also took an abrupt exit after the third round, there would be really nothing else for me to watch. I certainly wouldn’t want to start rooting for two gorillas carrying the Williams bloodline. I know you feel the same way too.

So what did push Alla Kudryavtseva to end Sharapova’s run in this…

Is the 2008 Wimbledon Championships rigged? (No… Tim Donaghy is not officiating in tennis yet…)

By: Syndicate

Apparently, that’s what the rumors are saying.

With the 2008 Wimbledon Championships here, tennis fans around the world are expecting to see some of the best action tennis has to offer on the most grandiose tennis tournament there is today.

However, it seems some people still feel different. Rumors began to come out that corruption does exist in tennis, saying that match-fixing does happen in the sport and with the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships here, these rumors are only putting a bad taste on tennis fans’ mouths, whether they like it or not.

All England Club chief executive Ian Ritchie doesn’t deny the fact that corruption in tennis does exist. He even said that it would be naïve for one to believe otherwise. But still, he insists that this threat posed by match fixing has greatly been exaggerated.

‘’It would be naive to say there was nothing going on and we have to be aware of some activity but again when you come to a tournament of this status and stature I don’t believe anybody is going to do anything other than try their very best,'’ Ian Ritchie said.

‘’There is a big gap between irregular betting patterns and match fixing and corruption. Just because there are irregular patterns…'’

Novak Djokovic was eliminated out of the 2008 Wimbledon Championships by Marat Safin

By: Syndicate

Oops… There goes one favorite to win in England.

You read it people, the first heavy favorite of the 2008 Wimbledon Championships to be eliminated was Novak Djokovic after Marat Safin cam up with a win in straight sets, winning 6-4, 7-6 (3), 6-2 on Centre Court.

And to think that Novak Djokovic will lose to a guy ranked No.75 in the world. After all the hype surrounding Djokovic coming into this tournament, nobody probably expected Ana Ivanovic’s main squeeze to go out as early as the second round of the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships.

‘’It was certainly a very bad day for Novak Djokovicme,'’ Novak Djokovic said after losing to Marat Safin. ‘’I didn’t do anything that I was supposed to, he was very solid in all segments.'’

Marat Safin moves on to the third round of the 2008 Wimbledon against No.29 Andreas Seppi. Safin knows nobody expects him to go deeper into the tournament, much more beating a world class tennis player like Djokovic.

‘’He’s the one who has to win matches. For me, nobody expects anything,'’ said Safin, who admitted he had not dared look beyond the second round. ‘’Now, I’ll have to check, the way I’m playing now, I could go far.'’

This year marks the 132nd edition of the…

Ana Ivanovic kicks off 2008 Wimbledon campaign easy

By: J.J. Jack

Ana Ivanovic is still on a roll.

That was a certainty after watching this year’s French Open women’s champion ease through her first match at the 2008 Wimbledon Championships. After Ivanovic claimed her very first career Grand Slam at Roland Garros, it certainly looks like the sexy Serbian is looking to win her next one already in England.

Heck, Ana Ivanovic didn’t even need an hour to dispatch her first round opponent, Rossana de Rios. Now ranked as the overall No.1 women’s player in the world after winning the French Open, Ivanovic won easily, eliminating probably the best tennis player Paraguay has to offer, 6-1, 6-2 in a dominant showing that went for less than an hour.

Ivanovic came into Ana Ivanovicthe 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships as the top seed and after beating Rossana de Rios rather easily, tennis fans in England realized why.

‘’Coming as the top seed, lots of people just expect you to win,'’ Ana Ivanovic said. ‘’You have to work hard, especially on grass. Everything is happening so fast.'’

‘’Becoming No.1 takes more pressure, but also you have to see pressure for what it is. It’s a reflection of your own ambition. If you see it as a positive thing, it means that you put yourself in a position to do something memorable. So if you look at it that way, it can be very motivating.'’

‘’I think I played quite well today, considering it’s the first match. Especially first match on the grass. It’s quite a big change but I was…'’
