The reason why Eightbelles death was such a bittersweet/heartbreaking event was because it was a female who outperformed males in the competition and overcame them to place second, then had a very unfortunate turn of events. Alot of women were rallying behind this horse for because we were hoping to win in a male dominated race. I am still heartbroken for this loss and keenly remember watching the race at the track, the jubilation for her second place and not knowing what happened to her until I went home to show my fiance the race online. Only then did I see what happened and I was utterly crushed. Im glad you are blogging about racing, but please give her the dignity in death she deserved and let it be known a filly took on the boys, not a colt.
