Betting on the Lilting Bark of the Bingo Caller

bingo_caller_200.jpgWhen we’re old, lonely and incontinent, we fully intend to join as my many Bingo clubs as possible. In fact, we may do it sooner just because we love the smell of old people. That’s what happens when your first job is in a nursing home.

In keeping up with their shameless betting propositions, the oddsmaking liver spots at Paddy Power are offering odds on Bingo Caller of the Year 2005. Yep. Hollerin’ Brett Hyrjak (South of England) is the heavy favorite at 15/8, followed by Matt “The Uvula” Adlington(Midlands) at 2/1. Longshot odds go to Gary Wilson(North East) at 9/1 who doesn’t deserve a nickname.

· We took fifty-ish place in a tournament of over 3,000 in just over forty-five minutes. That’s realistical.
· Only on “slow” mode do you get to see players close-up, but it moves way too slow to be tolerable.
· The overhead cam interface (for everything but slow mode) doesn’t keep you clearly abreast at all times of chip stacks and who’s holding cards. Why they couldn’t take a cue from, oh, every online poker site operating today for their gameplay view doesn’t make sense
· Yes, the computer players pretty much suck.
· More energy was put into options for customizing your player - including pants choices for a character that spends nearly the entire game sitting down - than creating an interface that’s easy to follow in-game.

Nobel Peace Prize Betting: Planet Earth Soon to be Named Planet Bono

BONOFINGER.jpgOnce again Bono has parlayed his god complex into brilliant self-promotion as word spreads that he’s on the short list for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize. Bono ranks at 7-1 according to his limey brethren at Paddy Power only ranking behind Ukraine president and man without a face, Viktor Yuschenko, Save the Children, and the Red Cross in the favorites list. Other notables include recently deceased Pope John Paul II at 33-1, and war-loving brothers in arms British Prime Minister Tony Blair and President George W. Bush each at 250-1. It’s amazing that they aren’t ranked higher on the list considering that there hasn’t been any violent repercussions from the Iraq war in, oh, the last ten minutes.
