NCAA Betting: Beware of Too Much Blackout Emotion in Troy
READ MORE: Blackout Night, Florida International, NCAA Betting, Troy Trojans
For those of you(those four of you) who are going to bet the Troy Trojans as 8 1/2 point favorites versus the Florida International Panthers tomorrow night and loving the fact the mighty black Trojan faithful at Memorial Stadium will be emotionally lathered over the Blackout Night, well, exhale a bit. Covers points out that even though home teams on sentimentally charged evenings may seemingly have an advantage, it can also be a trap:
“The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU, which always adds excitement to the atmosphere, but with such an emotional element added into the equation, this contest is quickly taking on a circus atmosphere in the town of fewer than 14,000 residents. But does all this extracurricular action really help the home team?
“Not necessarily,” says Covers Expert Ted Sevransky. “If it`s an emotional night for a team, sometimes they`ll get wiped out by the fourth quarter. LSU`s first game back in Louisiana was a classic example of how the excitement works both ways (LSU lost 30-27 to Tennessee as 6 1/2-point favorites).”
So, be wary of the Trojans expiring in the fourth quarter. And is it just us or does the phrase “mighty black Trojan faithful” just not work as well as we’d hoped?
