NFL Betting: McNabb’s Groin Worth 3 1/2 Points

READ MORE: Donovan McNabb's Groin, NFL Betting, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles

img5901198.jpgNobody can really imagine the Eagles winning this weekend when the travel to the Meadowlands. They’re facing a Giants team that’s coming off a ridiculous loss to Darren Sharper and the Minnesota Vikings special teams unit. They are mourning the loss of another dead owner. Plus, not to mention, for most of the year the Giants have shown that they might very well be the class of the NFC East. Now, factor in a Donovan McNabb groin yank and you get a three point swing for the Giants this weekend. The line opened at 3.5/4 for some books, but has now jumped to 7.5/8.5 on some thanks to the annnouncment that third-string idiot Mike McMahon will start instead of McNabb. Honestly, the line may move a bit more before Sunday as bettors are sure to throw heavy dollars at Giants. Not a bad play, considering what happened to the Redskins when they entered the Meadowlands after Wellington Mara died. Mike McMahon may actually wish he was back with the Detroit Lions after this weekend.

New York Giants (1-0)

New Orleans Saints (1-0)

Best Line: SAINTS +3.5, GIANTS -3

Sheesh. This is awful. How do you go about picking a game like this? On one hand you’ve got the feel good New Orleans Saints and all of their water-logged fans and then you’ve got the, well, Saints: Masters of inconsistency even though ridiculously talented at many of their positions. Then you have a New York Giants team which may be a little bit better than last year, but not as much as their blowout victory over Arizona last week showed us. However, the whole game depends on McAllister and how Haslett plans to use him. (We know, brave statement.) It’s doubly important tonight just because Aaron Brooks, once pressured, is just dead-stink awful. If the Giants establish pressure early then it’ll come down to whether or not Brooks can keep his composure, actually take a few hits and get the ball downfield. The Giants offense looks to be running a little more efficiently and Eli Manning appears to be getting more and more comfortable out there each time he plays. Lots of Plax in the red zone with Shockey hobbled. So, we’re sorry Katrina victims, we just think the Giants win this one outright. But just think of all the money that’ll be donated!

PICK!: GIANTS -3

Best Line: NY GIANTS +7, NY JETS -6.5

If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a thousand times: Don’t act all gay on me about taking the New York Jets this pre-season when the number if frightful and the amount of playing time for Chad Pennington and his ripped up shoulder is doubtful. Why? Because, as I proved to you the last time, the Jets scored a very wiley and competent gun-slinging back-up in Jay Fiedler. So whenever Herm Edwards decides Chad’s boo-boo needs some rest time, the Jets could still have a field day with Fiedler - New York’s first Jewish quarterback since Y.A. Tittle. (I’m not sure if Tittle was a Jew, but he had that look.).
Only adding to the fun here is the Giants sitting down the precious Eli Manning with a boo-boo of his own on his (GAY!) non-throwing elbow. That means the duty of keeping the Jints close falls squarely on the untested shoulders of Tim Hasselbeck. Ouch! If it were his more famous brother, Matt, than the pick here would be the Giants. And if Tim’s hot wife, Elizabeth (co-host on “The View”) were here with me right now, the pick would be a hot tub and a porno and to hell with handicapping. Anyhow, look for Jets starters to play a bit more than the first half. That ought to be when Fiedler comes in and begins the lead the Jets by Big Blue. The take here is JETS -6 1/2. Stop me now before I also take the over on the total too.
