Celebrity Betting: Can Oprah Defeat Scientology?

Perhaps prompted by her dogged allegiance to one pint-sized Hubbard-izer, Bodog has placed a prop bet on whether or not Oprah Winfrey will convert to Scientology before the end of the year. We can only assume that the line was sparked by this story alluding to the many alien-loving actors and actresses who are trying to ply the talk-show queen with gifts(Travolta gave her a $400,000 Rolls Royce for Christmas; Kirstie Alley hired her interior decorator; Jenna Elfman,er, baked her cookies or something). And, of course, the rumor that Tom Cruise is considering buying a house near Oprah’s estate in Montecito for the purpose of brainwashing/converting her may also be agreeable to a $200 payout on $100. But can Oprah be bought and duped so easily? This is a woman who fought off the furious(and much more powerful) meatpacking industry so we think she’s safe from the millionaire pod people—for now.
