Alex Rodriguez’s card room carousing days in New York City underground poker clubs are probably over. According to the New York Daily News New York Yankees’ brass officially told A-Rod to keep out of the card rooms and instead concentrate on more important things like hitting over .200 in a playoff series. The story portrays major league baseball owners as extremely paranoid that one of the league’s biggest stars is possibly setting himself up for controversy by playing poker in New York’s underground card rooms. According to one itchy baseball official in the story, Rodriguez is taking a huge risk:

“What in the world is he thinking? He can do what he wants in the off-season and he isn’t breaking the law - we checked - but why do it?”

Um, because he isn’t breaking the law and that he can do what he wants in the off-season? Just a guess.
