Supreme Court Betting: Bush Backdoors Us Again

READ MORE: Judge Edith Clement, Judge John G. Roberts, Odds, President Bush Supreme Court Nominee, Supreme Court

ROBERTS.jpgWow. Just when you think you know the president, he does something crafty like nominate an appeals court judge that not many people had pegged as a real front-runner when all of that nonsense we-need-a-lady-on-the-high-court chatter started. And what’s Bush do? He pulls Appeals Court Judge John G. Roberts out of his pocket making some lucky last minute traders very rich and a legit 2/1 dog—which we thought were ridiculously short. Once again, Impaler, had the angle on the guy. The wrong angle, but he’s the only one we knew that even had him on the short-list since the Ediths started popping up:

Rounding out our short list of potential candidates is arch conservative DC US Court of Appeals Judge John Roberts. He has many things going for him and has been largely overlooked by the mainstream media due to the lack of controversy. But there is a reason his odds are 2/1 to win the job, most notably his Curt Schilling-esque approach to preparation and his experience at arguing dozens of cases in front of the Supreme Court. He would likely appeal to conservative lobby as well as the religious right. But we think that it will take a Rehnquist retirement before this Beltway judge is nominated for the position.

Schilling-esque indeed. Let’s put a bloody sock on Roberts. However there are still so many questions about the Supreme Court that we want to know: Will Rehnquist EVER retire? What about our Ediths? What about our Gonzo? So many questions as our betting team huddles and sulks, but vows to pursue the jurist game and fight another day…
