US PGA Championship 2005: Another Tiger Mauling?

TAGS: Sports Betting: Golf, Tiger Woods

TIGER-ATTACK.jpgA month off from The PGA Championship – the final major of 2005 – Eurobet deflates Tiger Woods’ already short odds to make him shorter than Vern Troyer at Pete Newell’s basketball camp. Having whipped his competitors wire-to-wire at St. Andrews, Woods (5/2) is the heavy favorite to win the last major of 2005 at Batusrol GC in New Jersey. Vijay Singh’s dull-as-a-cottage-cheese-sandwich personality hasn’t hurt his odds – you can get him at 10/1. At 14/1, Phil Mickel-titties should be more comfortable with New Jersey baked cheese wedges (an official Jersey recipe!) than with Scottish haggis. The suddenly erratic Ernie Els is hurting at 14/1. Paulie Walnuts, usually so comfortable in the Jersey swamplands, remains a real outsider in this field.

Take on the Woods/Ivey Merge Magic

TAGS: Sports Betting: Golf

oddass.jpgThe Tiger Woods of Poker” and “The Phil Ivey of Golf” have an opportunity to do for Cablanasians (and for all people named Ivey we guess) what two guys who kinda look alike have never done before. These separated-at-birth standouts could very easily win “Majors” (or in Ivey’s case, the Major) in their sport over the course of this weekend. Tiger has raced out to an early lead after round one at the British Open, justifying the betting favorite status he held at the books up until post time, and Ivey is currently sitting just off the chip lead going into the final 27 at the World Series of Poker. Quoting Paul Phillips, commenting on a then-259th place Phil Ivey, “Ivey with par (average in chips for the tournament at that point) is like a normal person with the chip lead.” Find the dream parlay via the Oddschecker numbers and take out the second mortgage. Now git.

British Open 2005: Looks That Thrill = Links-Skills That Kill!

TAGS: Sports Betting: Golf

BRITOPEN.jpgAt Oddjack, we get no joy from golf betting. Our pre-tourney analysis involves a Ouija board and deciphering chewing tobacco spit patterns. So we’re working on a whole new angle for this weekend’s British Open – the more handsome the player, the more likely we’ll lay money on him. Tiger Woods (11/5 at BoDog) hits the links as a favorite – he’s so damn handsome, we just can’t resist! Sergio Garcia tees-off at 15/1 at BoDog. We’d take him more seriously if he didn’t look like a Spanish garden gnome. Mike Weir’s (100/1 at Ladbrokes) receding hairline reminds us too much of looking in the bathroom mirror in the morning, but Ernie Els (10/1 at William Hill) pleases the eye, despite his nearly transparent Caucasian skin. Mysteriously, Colin Montgomery (100/1 at EuroBet) gets less love than Phil Mickelson (14/1 at Intertops), even though their man-boobies wouldn’t get them past the first audition as Hugo Boss models. Meanwhile, Phil “The Power” Taylor sits back, coiled like a fat snake – maybe he’s earned a field bet at 17/4 (BoDog).

John Deere Classic Betting: Wie Bit Much

TAGS: Sports Betting: Golf

MICHELLEWIE.jpgWe love Michelle Wie, 15-year-old golfing phenom who keeps coming closer and closer to winning an LPGA event. We’ll continue to bet on her until she does—it’s only a matter of time. But Wie has loftier goals than bumping Anika Sorenstam off her perch—she wants to be competitive in the men’s game. And this weekend, Wie gets her shot as she enters the John Deere classic. Most of the big names won’t be there, but Wie is still a colossal longshot at +50000. At those odds, it’s quite tempting, but realize it’d be just as likely to bet on a grizzly bear to maul David Toms on the first tee than for Wie to win this event. Oh, Toms is the favorite at +800, by the way.

Poking Phil Mickelson’ s Fragile Ego

MICKELSON.jpgWe thought Phil Mickelson had turned the corner once he won the Masters in 2004. We thought all of those bridesmaid, choke artist, and gynecomastia patient tags were finally shed. However, the lusty leprechauns at Paddy Power have once again decided to start poking Phil in the big nipple with their sticks. In a promo called “Phil Your Boots” during the Barclay’s Scottish Open on Thursday golf tournament, which offers to refund all losing bets placed before the start of the tournament if Mickelson wins. The odds for Mickelson going into the tournament are 12-1. Ernie Els is the favorite at 6-1 and Retief Goosen at 11-1.

The British Open: Scotland Beckons With Haggis For Handicappers

BAGPIPE.jpgThe sportsbook affcionados at Bet365 have the early odds on The British Open Golf Championship beginning July 14 at Scotland’s barren, windswept St. Andrews, where the men are men, the women are too and the sheep run scared. Tiger Woods is the heavy favorite at +300, showing that the betting public will throw money at Woods’ pretty mug no matter how often he chokes. Ernie Els pulls action at +800, Vijay Singh looks solid at +1200 while Phil Mickelson and his mountainous man-boobies look juicy at +1400. US Open Winner Michael Campbell is a long-shot at +4000.

Meanwhile, last year’s winner Todd Hamilton (+15000) is a prohibitive long-shot. Hey, we were supposed to win a date with him last summer – what happened with that?

U.S. Women’s Open: Everybody Say…Wie!

TAGS: Sports Betting: Golf

11-Michelle_Wie.jpgEven though she’s only 15-years-old, Michelle Wie has proven she has the composure, the talent, and the make-up to be the best women’s golfer of all time. When we were 15, we were still frogs on fire and sleeping in foot pajamas. For this weekend’s US Women’s Open, Michelle Wie is currently at +1,500 to win. Those are some hefty odds for a 6-foot-tall golf prodigy who can drive the ball 600 yards. The favorite going into this weekend is(snore) Annika Sorenstam at +110.

Some of Our Best Friends Are Kiwis

Campbo.jpg
Yesterday saw a major gambling payout for anybody willing to take a chance on New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell, who staved off a charging Tiger Woods in the final round to inexplicably win the U.S. Open—and deliver a +15,000 payout to anybody who actually took the time to find his name on the bet sheet and gamble on him. Campbell finished with an even par 280 for the tournament, winning $1.17 million in prize money. Woods finished second, as his putter completely failed him in the final round and gave Campbell the victory. Does this mean that Michael Campbell should be on our radar for the British Open? Well, possibly. But we’d be better served just taking the $100 out of our wallet and shooting holes in it with a pellet gun.

Phil Mickelnips Struggles During Round 2

TAGS: Sports Betting: Golf

mickelson_7_17.jpgEverybody’s favorite mountain-chested golfer, Phil Mickelson, is off to an awful start on the front nine of the second round of the U.S. Open as he he is close to ending the round with a six over par score of 41. Mickelson, an 8/1 favorite to win through Bodog, may be suffering armpit chafing from his sports bra, which could be affecting his swing.

Ernie Els Passes Mickelson’s Tits As Second Favorite

TAGS: Sports Betting: Golf

ERNIEELS.jpgGolfer Ernie Els was recently touted as a 10/1 favorite to win this Sunday’s US Open, but after early action in his favor, Ladbrokes has moved his odds to 7/1—ahead of Phil Mickelson Anderson Lee who is still 9/1. Yet, Covers pulls an interesting story about Sergio Garcia (20-1)and seems to be primping him for a U.S. Open victory after his strong outing at the Booze Allen classic.

U.S. Open Betting: Tiger Will Eat Its Young

TAGS: Sports Betting: Golf

woods_hauser0828.jpgThere’s nothing more splendid and riveting in professional golf than the U.S. Open. Except maybe for watching a boozed-up John Daly throw a temper tantrum on the course and eat a live squirrel. However, given that those chances are slim, it’s best to stick to what is somewhat predictable. So far, the early odds go to Tiger Woods at 7/2 and Phil “Yes, These Are My Real Boobs” Mickelson at 6/1. We like the whole Tiger Woods will kill everybody in his wake since he found his swing angle and do think he’ll become the prohibitve favorite as we get closer to the June 16 event. And just like Wesley Snipes told us in Passenger 57, we’ll always bet on black when it comes to golf. Or half-black, in this instance.
