NCAA Football Betting: Kansas Irked By Texas Spread

The Kansas Jayhawks football team is a little miffed about the 34 1/2 points they’re getting for their Saturday matchup against number two ranked Texas. Kansas linebacker Kevin Kane considers the line a huge insult considering his squad is the fifth ranked defense in the country:
“We know that we are one of the top defenses in the country, and to get that kind of slap in the face kind of makes you a little upset.”
But Kane should feel a little better. The line has moved since the opening and now the Jayhawks are only 33 point underdogs against Texas. Those one and a half points are done out of respect, Kevin. Texas is still 8-1 ATS this year, but Kansas did give them a scare when they last met leading the game with five minutes to go. Texas eventually came back and won 27-23.

Texas versus USC for the Rose Bowl is a given. There are no better teams in NCAA football right now and each will go undefeated, win their respective divisions, and head to Pasadena to play out their fateful seasons. Well, we know things can’t be that easy, but objective reasoning has never been a strong point of a bookmaker, especially one looking to capitalize on the hype behind Texas’ number one ranking in different polls. Yes, Pinnacle Sports has released the first lines on Rose Bowl match-ups and were even generous enough to include the Virginia Tech Hokies in the mix.(Tech dodged Temple on the schedle this year. Yeah, we remember 1998. Go Owls!).
Here are the not-so-crappy numbers affixed to the aformentioned teams:
Both teams must start for action.
USC -5.5 Texas
USC -7.5 Virginia Tech
Texas -2.5 Virginia Tech

Hey, did anybody realize that the Buffs are actually kind of good this year? We remember the days of Kordell Stewart and his goiter running rampant just like everyone else, but now there’s a new regime and a healthy 4-1 record. Texas’ Vince Young is proving to be too much for plenty of defenses this year, but the Longhorns are due for another test and giving 17 points to a pretty good team may be too much for them to overcome even though they’ve covered every game so far this year. Can the Buffs protect against the mongrel Texas D-line? That’s the only question. We think Texas will keep its quest for BCS glory alive, but we think this one’s closer than the number and the Buffs cover this one pretty easily.
