Drafting running backs for NFL fantasy football can be tricky.
That’s right, tthere’s generally a consensus as to who the top two or three ball carriers will be heading into the 2010 NFL football season, but beyond that, it can be a bit of a crap shoot.
Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans. Despite an ongoing contract dispute, Chris Johnson is an easy pick at No. 1 overall. He rushed for 2,006 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2009, and has said his goal for the 2010 season is to rush for 2,500 yards. Eric Dickerson holds the single-season rushing record at 2,105 yards, so Johnson is clearly looking at going above and beyond the best season in NFL history.
Johnson is called “Every Coaches Dream”
and he has become just that. He’s shed the Slash n’ Dash moniker and stormed past the rest of the NFL as the clear cut best player in Fantasy Football. Johnson does it all and he does it all well. Usain speed, great vision, he runs through tackles, catches passes, plays every down, scores goal line TDs, scores 80 yard TDs, and has great hair. The only thing holding him back is a sweet name. “Christian Johnnywalker” would be a celebrity at this point.
Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings. If Chris Johnson is the clear-cut No. 1, then No. 2 is a little less obvious. The top three are easy — Johnson, Adrian Peterson and Jacksonville’s Maurice Jones-Drew, but many fantasy football prognosticators have MJD listed ahead of Peterson. The Vikings star has the No. 2 spot only because of the numbers — 4,484 yards and 40 touchdowns in his first three NFL seasons, including 1,383 yards and a league-high 18 rushing TDs in 2009.
No one would question it if you took him first overall, but…

I’m hoping the Patriots will have the balls to go ahead and sign this dude.
The 2010 NFL football season is shaping up to be an interesting one to say the least with two of the league’s biggest and longest tenured running backs parting ways with their respective teams.
The releases of LaDainian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook have set off a firestorm of rumors and speculation about where the two backs might end up next season. Both still have a little something left in the tank, so it’s just a matter of finding the right team for their skill sets.
As far as LaDainian Tomlinson is concerned, he limits his prospective employment to teams capable of winning the Super Bowl. He has reduced his options to a very small field. And then he’s
going to have to take a very modest contract, given his performance level in 2009 (730 rushing yards, 3.3 per carry, 20 catches) for a very good team.
There is a reasonably good chance no Super Bowl contender will offer Tomlinson, 30, that chance. But history says that Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots might, or Mike Shanahan in Washington could. This is not to say the Redskins are a Super Bowl contender.
It appears that unless Tomlinson is willing to join a team like the Cincinnati Bengals or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his best chance to reach the Super Bowl still might be through San Diego. And he just cashed out there.
One good fit for Tomlinson are the New Orleans Saints…

For the first time since 1980, the Pro Bowl will be played somewhere other than Honolulu.
That’s right, the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl between the AFC’s and NFC’s best will take place Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at Dolphin Stadium in South Florida. It will feature some intriguing match ups too. Nowhere will that be more evident than when the NFC wide receivers try to shed the AFC’s starting cornerbacks.
With the Jets’ Darrelle Revis and the Raiders’ Nnamdi Asomugha pestering and shadowing DeSean Jackson, Miles Austin, and Sidney Rice, the NFC may find it difficult to get any sort of big play in the passing game. Throw in Ed Reed at free safety and Brian Dawkins at strong safety, and the NFC’s offensive coordinator Jason Garrett may want to consider calling Barry Switzer to get some quick pointers on the wishbone.
On the contrary, you have to like the NFC stable of quarterbacks over what the AFC is running out there. Matt Schaub will start for the AFC and will be backed up and at some point, replaced by Vince Young and David Garrard.
Meanwhile, the NFC is running Aaron Rodgers onto the field first, and then Donovan McNabb, and eventually Tony Romo. The NFC quarterbacks should be able to carry the day, providing they have any open receivers.
The running back duel will be the other place of greatest intrigue. The AFC’s Chris Johnson, the guy who makes greased lightning look like a lumbering lineman, was the first…

For the first time ever, the Pro Bowl will come a week before THE big game, as this year’s Pro Bowl kicks off Super Bowl week with a bang.
Yes, the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl will now come before the Super Bowl and this year, the best players from both the AFC and the NFC will play at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Florida for this year’s annual showcase of the league’s premiere talent.
This way, football fans will be able to further build their anticipation heading to Super Bowl XLIV and as far as this year’s Pro Bowl starters are concerned, both teams’ rosters have some familiar faces.
Leading the pack for the AFC squad is Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. Other selections include Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson, Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson and Colts teammate Reggie Wayne.
Dallas Clark, who also plays for the Indianapolis Colts, was also voted in for the Pro Bowl to play tight end, starting tackles will be the Dolphins’ Jake Long and the Broncos’ Ryan Clady. Starting guards for the AFC will be the Patriots’ Logan Mankins and Alan Faneca of the New York Jets.
Faneca’s teammate Nick Mangold will be the AFC’s starting center…

Who dat, who dat, who dat say gonna’ beat dem Saints? Who dat, who dat, who dat say gonna’ beat dem Saints?
Um… Maybe the Vikings can? Yep, that is exactly what Saints fans from the Big Easy are wondering after Brett Favre came up with four freaking touchdowns to beat the Cowboys and take the Vikes to the 2010 NFC championship game.
The Minnesota Vikings showed last week how incredibly difficult it can be to score against their defense with the way they’ve been on Romo’s ass all game long last week. And since Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been struggling during the last few games of their regular season campaign, you have to wonder how the heck will Brees be able to take himself out of this funk against arguably one of the best defenses in football.
The Vikings, thanks to Brett Favre, have become one of the best teams in the NFC. Their 8-0 record at the Metrodome is a testament to what type of team they can be with the crowd behind them. The problem is, they’ll be playing on the road this Sunday in front of what will definitely be a hostile crowd at the Big Easy.
The Vikings have lost 4 of their last 5 road games including their last 3 in the regular season to the Bears, Panthers, and Cardinals. Minnesota scores 5 points less, averaging 26 points per game and gives up 5 more points a game, 23.5 points per game, on the road. The rushing offense, lead by Adrian Peterson who…

2-9 all-time and 0-3 in the playoffs.
That’s what Brett Favre is trying to improve on when his Minnesota Vikings play hosts to the Dallas Cowboys in their big NFC divisional match-up at the 2010 NFL playoffs.
As of this writing, the Minnesota Vikings are three-point favorites to beat the Dallas Cowboys and advance to the NFC championship game. But if I was a betting man, I’d think twice before I bet on the Vikes because of the fact that Favre hasn’t beaten the Cowboys in the playoffs, and this Vikings team lost two of their last three games coming in.
Still, if there’s a guy who can lead the Vikings to a playoff win over the Cowboys, it’s Brett Favre. At 40 years old, nobody thought he’d still
be playing at this level and this Sunday, the Vikings need him now more than ever or it’s an early summer for ‘em.
The Dallas Cowboys on the other hand are one of the hottest teams in the league after finally posting their first winning record in December for quite a while. They have won three games in a row, scoring 75 points overall while only giving up 14.
Of course, the main reason for their turnaround has been the steady play of…

We have a good one for you this week.
Everybody knows that the intensity of the 2009 NFL football season picks up after Thanksgiving and the games we have for you this weekend proves why.
First, we have MVP candidate Brett Favre and the rest of the Minnesota Vikings playing hosts to the Chicago Bears. The Vikings are on a three-game winning streak and since the Bears virtually don’t have anything going for them at this point of the season, this game gives the Vikes the perfect opportunity to extend that streak to four straight wins.
Since the Minnesota Vikings welcomed Brett Favre in mid-August, the team has gone to great lengths. The Vikings are averaging more than 30 points per game, they have the consensus top running back in the league in Adrian Peterson and the future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre, who is playing better at 40 than he ever has.
On the defensive end, the Vikings are no.3 against the run, allowing just 85.5 yards per game with defensive end Jared Allen ranking second in the NFL with 10.5 sacks.
As for the Chicago Bears, they are on a streak of their own, a losing one. While the Vikings have won three in a row, the Bears have lost three in a row. Jay Cutler and the rest of the Bears have also lost five of their last six games, definitely not something you want to be in the middle of at this point of the season.
In the past 30 days, the Chicago Bears have been lit up by…

Yep, because he just whooped the Packers’ asses on Monday Night Football.
In what has been one of the most anticipated games of the 2009 NFL football season, Brett Favre put on quite a show for his new fans in Minnesota and against his former teammates from Green Bay.
You read it, Brett Favre was simply phenomenal in his first game against the Green Bay Packers as he led the Minnesota Vikings to a 30-23 win after scoring three touchdowns, putting up 271 yards in the air with no interceptions whatsoever.
It was a perfect performance to send a
perfect message to Packers general manager Ted Thompson that he still got it. It was only two years ago when Thompson let Favre go in favor of a younger Aaron Rodgers. He’s probably having some doubts now if the move he made two seasons ago was the right one.
The win over the Green Bay Packers let Favre become the only player in the league to beat all 32 teams in the NFL. Green Bay was the ONLY team he has yet to beat before Monday Night Football since he spent most of his career throwing TDs at Lambeau. Last Monday night, Favre did look like the quarterback who set records in Green Bay, the only difference was, it was against Green Bay and Favre was setting the Metrodome on fire.
Vikings fans sure were going ga-ga over Brett Favre…

It’s all about No.4 in Week 4.
There are two games this 2009 NFL football season Brett Favre has probably been looking forward to ever since the Green Bay Packers allegedly gave him the boot in favor of the younger Aaron Rodgers, playing the Packers on Week 8 at Lambeau and this Monday night at the Metrodome to conclude Week 4.
Yep, you can bet your ass Brett Favre has been salivating over the chance to play against the Green Bay Packers. Although he refuses to admit it, a win over Green Bay will give him the satisfaction of proving to the Packers organization, including to himself, that he still has what it takes to be in this league.
After a season with the New York Jets and a lot of retirement speeches, Brett Favre found his way back into the NFL when the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay’s hated rivals, gave him the chance to suit it up for at least one more year.
Sure, he could have just signed with other teams but since he probably wants to stick it up to the Green Bay Packers, he chose to sign with the enemy to set himself up for one classic confrontation at some point this season. Luckily, since the Vikings and…

And trust me, it’ll be hard for this year’s other rookies to pry that title away from Sanchez.
We are three weeks into the 2009 NFL football season and Mark Sanchez has just been golden for the New York Jets. They are ready to contend for a playoff spot and they have their rookie to thank for it.
However, it’s still quite early to hand Mark Sanchez with the Rookie of the Year award and SPORTSBETTING.COM has the odds on who will challenge the Jets quarterback for the title.
First, we have the Detroit Lions QB Matt Stafford. Like Sanchez, he was also listed at 8-1 NFL odds to win Rookie of the Year and has shown flashes of his gifted ability. Unfortunately, he plays for the Lions and if he doesn’t make the postseason, he could miss out on Rookie of the Year honors as well.
On the positive side, Stafford has the luxury of throwing to Calvin Johnson who is one of the top five receivers in the game. They hooked up in Week 2 for Stafford’s first career touchdown pass and they will become a dynamic duo over the next few seasons. Besides, the Detroit Lions have finally won a game, ending their 19-game losing streak that dates back to last season. It’ll be interesting to see how Stafford will develop the next few weeks.
Going into the season, the odds on favorite at 3-1 to win the award was Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno. Running backs have…
