WOW. Now that could be the biggest deal made in the NFL for quite a while.
Looks like the Philadelphia Eagles will have a brand new look for the 2010 NFL football season with the departure of the two huge pieces that ran the team for the past few years. In case you haven’t heard, the team parted ways with star running back Brian Westbrook, and now, just a few hours ago, they sent star quarterback Donovan McNabb to Washington.
You read it, Donovan McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins for a pair of draft picks Sunday night. Football fans saw this coming a mile away but McNabb and the entire Eagles organization denied it, sort of.
With McNabb now in D.C., that should ”hopefully”
give the Washington Redskins a solid threat at the QB spot. Something Jason Campbell failed at, miserably, the last couple of seasons.
As for the Philadelphia Eagles, I have no idea why they thought trading McNabb away was the right way to go in their quest for a Super Bowl championship. Sure, McNabb is probably in the twilight of his career but c’mon, the guy is still a whole lot better than most guys in the NFL.
”Donovan McNabb was more than a franchise quarterback for this team,” Eagles…

Like Tomlinson, Westbrook has began looking for teams to play for.
With the 2010 NFL football season still more than a couple of months away, guys like Tomlinson and Westbrook have more than enough time to find a new place to call home where they try to salvage what’s left of their playing career.
In case you haven’t heard, the Philadelphia Eagles decided to part ways with their all-time leading rusher by releasing Brian Westbrook a few weeks ago. Westbrook, who has a history of injuries, missed eight games in 2009 after suffering ankle injuries and two concussions.
In his eight-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles, he never played a full season. This seems to be part of the reason why Philadelphia didn’t want to bring him back in 2010. He was also due to make $7.25 million.
Now that he’s a free agent, Westbrook may have to accept the fact that he will most likely be signed by a team for a limited role as a no.2 (or even no.3) running back. Here are just some teams that may consider signing Westbrook now that he is no longer with the Eagles.
The Minnesota Vikings may be a good choice for Westbrook since…

I’m hoping the Patriots will have the balls to go ahead and sign this dude.
The 2010 NFL football season is shaping up to be an interesting one to say the least with two of the league’s biggest and longest tenured running backs parting ways with their respective teams.
The releases of LaDainian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook have set off a firestorm of rumors and speculation about where the two backs might end up next season. Both still have a little something left in the tank, so it’s just a matter of finding the right team for their skill sets.
As far as LaDainian Tomlinson is concerned, he limits his prospective employment to teams capable of winning the Super Bowl. He has reduced his options to a very small field. And then he’s
going to have to take a very modest contract, given his performance level in 2009 (730 rushing yards, 3.3 per carry, 20 catches) for a very good team.
There is a reasonably good chance no Super Bowl contender will offer Tomlinson, 30, that chance. But history says that Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots might, or Mike Shanahan in Washington could. This is not to say the Redskins are a Super Bowl contender.
It appears that unless Tomlinson is willing to join a team like the Cincinnati Bengals or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his best chance to reach the Super Bowl still might be through San Diego. And he just cashed out there.
One good fit for Tomlinson are the New Orleans Saints…

My my, teams are really letting some once great running backs go these last couple of days huh?
Brian Westbrook won’t be playing for them Eagles no more once the 2010 NFL football season gets here. Yes, just like LaDainian Tomlinson not playing for them Chargers anymore. You see, after two cases of concussions last season, the Eagles finally let him go, stirring up some rumors that he may just call it quits and walk away from football.
However, Brian Westbrook claims that is simply not the case. ”My plan is not to retire. My plan is to continue to play football,” he said in an interview with a local radio station in Philly. ”There’s 32 teams out there. Hopefully I’ll have an opportunity to go and play with another team.”
Yes, after two concussions that kept him out for a good portion of Philly’s last campaign in the NFL, Westbrook feels he can still play football and bang heads with guys like Jared Allen and Patrick Willis. And in case you’re wondering, no, he doesn’t have a death wish.
Westbrook, who thanked Philadelphia Eagles fans and coach Andy Reid for all their support, said his agent has already heard from three or four teams about his availability for 2010. Of course, we don’t know if those three or four teams play in the NFL. Hell, he may end up playing for some team in Canada for all we know.
Westbrook also said that he understood why the Eagles…

This week, we’re kicking off on the wild side.
Yep, you read it, Week 11 of the 2009 NFL football season will kick off on the wild side because this week, the Miami Dolphins and that wildcat offense will travel to Bank of America Stadium to take on the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football.
Now I don’t know about you but that’s the way to start a week of football. The Miami Dolphins have become one of the most exciting teams in the NFL because of that explosive wildcat offense that the Dolphins introduced to the league last year. If they can just win more games with the wildcat.
As of this writing, both the Miami Dolphins and the Carolina Panthers have an identical 4-5 mark. The Panthers’ 28-19 win over Atlanta last Sunday put them one game behind the Falcons, Packers, Eagles and Giants in the wild card picture, with a game in New York still remaining on their schedule.
The Dolphins BARELY saved themselves from falling to 3-6 after quarterback Chad Henne gave up an interception in the last two minutes of their game against the Buccaneers last Sunday. The Bucs came up with a touchdown, giving them the 23-22 lead with 1:14 to go. Thankfully, Henne didn’t made the same mistake when they got the ball back as…

And although these teams from NYC and Philly won’t be playing for the World Series, this one should be as exciting since we’ll have two of the best in the NFC.
Yes, Week 8 of the 2009 NFL football season continues with a classic rivalry in the NFC. The New York Giants take on the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, and since both teams are playing to be on top of the very competitive NFC East, expect this one to be one of the most physical games you’ll ever see in the NFL this season.
As of this writing, the New York Giants have a half game lead over both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. All three teams haven’t lost more than two games after seven weeks and it looks like the NFC East is once again turning into the best division, not only in pro football, but in sports, period.
Last Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles started taking on the NFC East, beating the Washington Redskins 27-17 on Monday Night Football. Everybody picked the Eagles over the Redskins coming into this one and after scoring the first 17 points of the game, it was clear the Eagles were dead serious in claiming the top spot of the division.
This Sunday, the Eagles have the Giants, the second of three teams from the NFC East they have to take on in succession. Can Philly get another win before they take on the Dallas Cowboys next week?
The Eagles have been struggling offensively lately. Despite…

Can both the Eagles and the Redskins keep up with the better half of the NFC East?
That’s what both teams will be hoping for as Week 7 of the 2009 NFL football season concludes at FedEx Field where the Philadelphia Eagles visit the Washington Redskins for a big NFC East rivalry game.
After six weeks, both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins are still playing catch up to the Cowboys and the Giants in the NFC East. Week 6 was tough for both too as the Eagles were shocked by the Raiders 13-9 while the Redskins have once again ”awarded” somebody their first win of the season, giving the Chiefs their first win of the year 14-6.
Let’s start with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles were the NFC favorite coming into the season and were supposed to be an offensive juggernaut, yet last week they only got nine points in a humiliating loss to the Raiders.
What’s even more troubling is, they actually have a good running game, it’s just that they choose to not take advantage of it. The Eagles average 4.3 yards per carry but they only average 23.2 attempts per…

If you’re still hoping that Vick will eventually land the starting QB job in Philly then you’re in for a huge disappointment this year.
Vick is returning to the National Football League this 2009 NFL football season after serving 18 months of a 23-month sentence for his role in running a dog fighting ring in Virginia. The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback was once the league’s highest-paid player and is looking to get his professional career back on track.
But can a guy like Michael Vick really help a Philadelphia Eagles team that already has two good quarterbacks? I don’t expect this guy to replace Donovan McNabb anytime soon and there are rumors that he isn’t even Philly’s no.2 guy with backup quarterback Kevin Kolb primed to land the job before the season starts.
So where does that leave Michael Vick if he can’t land the starting job AND the backup one? Well, the way for Vick to help the Eagles this season is to be able to do a lot more than just standing behind the center throwing footballs.
Vick can be a return man for one. That way, the Philadelphia Eagles can take advantage of Vick’s uncanny speed, provided that the speed the Eagles gladly paid for is still there.
Vick also has the option of lining up as a receiver, coming in motion , taking a pitch and heading to the edge. The Eagles can fake a handoff to him and watch the entire defense roll to his side to account for his speed. The Eagles can then go to the other side of the field for some favorable matchups that hopefully will be there.
As a receiver, Vick can be considered in shotgun formation…

It has been well documented that this year’s Eagles were last season’s version of the Super Bowl XLII champs New York Giants.
Last Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles were simply known as ”giant killers” as they ended the reigning champs’ campaign at Giant Stadium, beating the Giants 23-11, to advance to the NFC title game.
The Philadelphia Eagles will visit the Arizona Cardinals for the 2009 NFC championship at the University of Phoenix Stadium, the very field where the Giants won their Super Bowl title last season.
You read it, the Philadelphia
Eagles will have the opportunity to play for the Super Bowl again since Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens stopped calling themselves buddies in Philly. Of course, the Arizona Cardinals are no pushovers. But still, you can’t help but root for McNabb who is probably on his last season with the Eagles.
”He is the best quarterback in the NFL,” Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said of Donovan McNabb. ”I don’t think I have to say anything more than that.”
McNabb lunged for one touchdown, threw for another and converted several key third downs to move the sixth-seeded Eagles (11-6-1) into next Sunday’s title game at…

This is probably the biggest playoff game of the weekend.
One, because this Eagles – Giants faceoff in the 2009 NFC divisional playoffs will feature two teams from the NFC East, arguably the best division in pro sports. Two, because whichever team comes out of this one will probably go on and win the Super Bowl.
Yup, the 2009 NFL playoffs continue this Sunday at Giants Stadium where the Philadelphia Eagles visit the New York Giants for what should be one heckuva’ playoff game.
This is the first playoff game for the New York Giants since denying the New England Patriots of
the Super Bowl last year. They start their playoff campaign with a divisional-round game against the red-hot Philadelphia Eagles who, despite being the last seed in the conference, should pose a formidable challenge to anyone who stands across them in the postseason.
The New York Giants (12-4) stumbled somewhat at the end of the season, dropping three of their last four, although they managed to clinch the top seed in the NFC with an overtime win over Carolina on Dec.21. That earned a much-needed first-round bye for the Giants, who opened the season 11-1 and weathered a brutal schedule while playing 13 straight games after their bye week…
